Desert Storm - Crisis in the Desert is the best of the three part series. It's presents an accurate feel to the very complex events that make up modern warfare. From the President down to the Privates in the foxholes, you are presented with what it's like to make decisions that involve men and women's lives and how they react accordingly. Some of the battlefield communications can be difficult to follow unless you have a military background. That being said, this one the best books of its type I've read. If you enjoy believable military novels, this one is for you.
I was in Desert Storm, and we all thought the way it ended was BS. This story has the same problem, political puked getting involved when they should stay out.
I always thought it was a tremendous blessing to have an enemy as stupid as Saddam Hussein. This story probably gives him more credit than he deserves but, he's screaming in Hell forever, so it doesn't matter.
It was a good story but I never found myself caring about any of the characters. Worth reading the series, once.
The fight to remove the Iraqi military from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has reached its climatic end. POTUS will not negotiate a peace treaty with Saddam Hussein. He will only accept a surrender. His military is retreating and being chased by the American and British forces. The media and world opinions are going against POTUS. The fight has now become political like Korea and Vietnam. Another excellent read in this series!!
As a whole, it was a decent what-if/could have been trilogy. I think there should have been more maps and a glossary at the end. But beyond those two changes, it was a well-written story. With memorable characters and relatable scenarios. The ending did feel a bit rushed but did come across as fairly factual. I look forward to reading more from this team of authors.
Book nailed it the war fighters are always sold out by the politicians. They could care less how many they get killed as long as they get their 15 minutes of fame. If Saddam Hussein was handled the first time we would not have had to go back. Maybe the towers would still be there.
The first two books where spectacular but the last book was the low point of the series. There was truly only a few ways the series could’ve ended with it being the finale book with moderate similar ending of the war with are timeline was the most likely but also the authors cheap way out writing a truly original end.
I'm a Gulf War vet and this series explores an alternative Gulf War. The author captures life in the desert realistically and accurately. He also weaved in actual events from the war into his story. I highly recommend this series.
Badly needs maps included to be able to keep up with the action. Author is enamored with repeating call signs and weapons system details. Needs a knowlegable USAF technical advisor to provide correct information.
I always thought they should have called it Desert Sword. A good retelling of the conflict. A good trilogy tgat starts with a “What if” yet follows the events nicely. As a DS1(and 2) participant I heartily approve of these books
I learned quite a bit was !little sadden of learning how Colin Powell was hesitant at making decisions to back Stormin Norman.Of coursewe know then outcome. I am very proud of all ours and of our allies soliders.
I have just finished the third book in this series, Crisis in the desert “. Matt Jackson” and James Rosone have crafted a superb book on desert warfare. It truly is a book that is impossible to put down.
Great finish to the series. The ending wad right on the money. I really enjoyed the series and highly recommend it. It brought back a lot of memories being over there.
Outstanding. Again I love the small detail of everyday army life. Has an alternative history novel it is very believable in its detail and twists and turns.
What an end to this alternate fiction story. Although at times I have felt that the better description was getting too much, but it was still very fast paced.
The finale seemed to have ended very quickly. I would have appreciated more details of specific battles and characters to gain a better idea of how it went.
