Little Gems Flash Fiction: Gripping Short Stories to Read in Your Lunchbreak

Rate this book
Little Gems are amusing, entertaining and thought-provoking short, short stories ideal for a quick read to fill some downtime, like your lunchbreak, waiting for a covid19 test, catching a plane, or maybe commuting to work. Each one is entirely different from the rest, most are amusing, some are scary, some have a hint of romance, and some reveal that karma really does come around full circle.

A heroic school boy learns the consequences of crying wolf, while one woman is caught in a very compromising situation by a camera-toting Japanese tour group.
Two young children cornered by a grizzly bear are facing certain death, and a woman learns that her axe-wielding neighbor is not what he seems.
The circus is in town and a terrified boy has to face his greatest fear, and a man tries too hard to impress his future in-laws.
A matronly nurse steals foreskins from the clinic but no one will guess what her motivation could be.

Some of these little gems are tense and emotionally charged with an unexpected ending bringing welcome relief, while others are just light-hearted entertainment delivering a humorous or ironic twist that you did not see coming.

I have been a storyteller since I was a very young girl. Only, back then it was just called telling lies. My active and vivid imagination was regularly and systematically crushed or ridiculed. Fortunately, however, strict parenting and rigid social norms failed to extinguish the urge in me to create my stories as I grew older.

Spinning a tale that delivers emotional growth, challenges to overcome, triumphs and humor has always fascinated me. The tale must weave as many of these facets as possible into a rich tapestry of fiction for a wide audience to consume and enjoy.

I think, building a story from brief scenes and scattered parts that start to come together into a smooth-flowing whole is both exciting and rewarding. And to share that finished piece of written art with other people for their enjoyment is the ultimate reward.

Perfect little nuggets of entertainment for when you have a spare five minutes. Some of the tales were interesting, some were wacky, and some were very thought provoking.
