His scars are hidden.

Kyle Stewart always envisioned marriage and children in his future, but being deployed changed him in every possible way. All he wants now is to take care of his aging parents and live a quiet life of bachelorhood. Then a woman from Kyle’s past blasts back into his life with hired hitmen on her tail.

She’s not who she claims to be.

Sierra Lyons isn’t her real name. She’s not originally from Texas, her birthday isn’t in April, and her family has been on the run since she was seven. Trusting the police isn’t an option, but when armed men attempt to kidnap her infant nephew, there’s no denying she’s been found.

Some risks are worth taking.

Kyle knows Sierra isn’t telling the whole truth, but the threats against her are real. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect her and her nephew—even if it places his own life in peril. Keeping his heart from becoming collateral damage, however, may be impossible...

Sierra's father was not a kind man. As a mob boss, he was downright dangerous. That is why she, her sister and her mother fled from him a longtime ago. Now her mom and her sister have both died, so she has custody of her young nephew. How can she protect them?

She finds herself stuck on the side of the road. Thankfully she recognizes the man who comes to help them - her high school boyfriend, Kyle. When he finds out everything that is going on, he recruits some other retired military friends to help keep her safe. (These friends definitely add an important element to the book - support.) Can they figure out what is really going on?

Note: All of the above details are given in the first part of the book, so I do not consider them spoilers.

This is the third book in the Triumph Over Adversity series. The books do connect characters but not necessarily storylines. One could read this book separately and still follow along. I enjoyed it more because I was familiar with the characters, but if that is not important to you, you could read this one first.

I definitely enjoyed the characters in this book. The plot kept moving, and many details of the suspense portion I did not guess. But I felt like everything was a bit too condensed and rushed at times. Especially the romance. Overall, an enjoyable book, but my final rating is 4.2 stars

Spoilers and Rants

This author's books are like the train wreck that I can't stop watching. She has so much potential. I think with a good editor, a dictionary, losing the cliches, and a thesaurus she could be an awesome author.

Problems:
The character Evan would have had to been a teenager when she was still living with her father.

Clichés right off the bat in the first few pages of the book. Example of cliché usage, "Sleep was a luxury he couldn't afford right now."

The author does a good job of keeping you guessing. The book was intersting as you know whobthe bad guys are from the beginning just not fully why.

Ms. Shannon's rpetitive repetition of emotional angst by the main characters gets o.l.d. Example, "his heart belonged to Maisy", news flash dude, Maisy is dead.

There are incomplete sentances in the book. Sometimes they are used to make a point, which I'm fine with, other times it's simoly bad editing, such as "I don't want anymore."

The author also has the habit of repetitive use of the same word, such as gorgeous and thug. Each book she picks a different word to over use. Although gorgeous sems to be a favorite.

Another example of poor editing is when they went into the river the heroine later said they went into the lake.

And finally a theological pet peeve coming up.
At the end of chapter 27 the heroine says, God heard both their prayers. Theologically God always hears our prayers. What people seem to mean when they say that is that God answered their prayers the way they wanted therefore He heard them. God always answers, yes, no, or wait. It is an immature faith to say he doesn't answer or hear.

I knew I liked Nathan and Kyle in the first book, and I was excited for their stories. I'm thankful that they lived up to that, and that each book in this series really is getting better and better. That's one of my favorite things about a book series, and I love to find those gems that really shine in this way. A bonus is getting more time with the characters, and this is a great example of that so far as well!

This one was different, or at least has a somewhat different approach from the first two mysteries, and honestly that might have been part of what I loved about it! I also loved Sierra and Kyle, and sweet baby Daniel. I also loved seeing Kyle's parents in a supportive role, welcoming Sierra and Daniel into their loving family. I also enjoy these more positive type roles displayed, especially with older characters that are parents or mentor like roles for the main characters. It's something I've always been drawn to, and the Bible says discipleship is a big part of the life of a follower of God, so to me this is a good first step in that direction, and needs to be more common and encouraged among out fellow believers. The older offering wisdom, encouragement, and support to the next generation, and those of the younger generation being willing to seek out that wisdom and relationship.

The mystery and surprise ending was also a fun twist in this one! While I still guessed it a bit before the reveal and had suspected something like that for a little while, I still enjoyed seeing it actually play out and loved how things wrap up. This one is also more of a personal nature, since Sierra's family is directly involved and there's a traumatic incident with a dog as well... so not for everyone, but I found it to be handled well for what it is, and gang/criminal organizations are notoriously evil, in which case I felt the author does a good job of getting that point across and displaying just a taste of that without dwelling on the details for too long. Not an easy thing to do, and this book does it pretty well!

A great romantic suspense novel:
I really enjoyed this book. It was full of heart stopping action yet this was nicely interspersed with gentler times. I also enjoyed seeing the strong family and friendship bonds and it was nice reconnecting with this group of veterans.
Sierra's life was in danger and she was used to keeping to herself. However when Kyle came across her fleeing an attack, he stepped in and was gradually able to convince her to let him in. I thought they made a wonderful couple and baby Daniel added a sweet and tender touch to the story.
There was a light Christian aspect however this book could be enjoyed by people of all faiths/beliefs.

Sierra and Kyle were interesting characters and I felt a connection to them both. I really enjoyed the love, respect, support, understanding and acceptance in this, the way that everyone came together to protect Seirra and Daniel was lovely to see. I liked how their faith was just a part of who they were and that they were open and honest about their feelings and their struggles. My favourite line was "Don't stab me, sweetheart. I'm here to save you!".

Well Written Spine Tingling Mystery

I was very impressed with the way the relationships and the way the characters communicated - so normal that at times i felt i could hear them talk. Each of us face some real challenges in our lives that seem insurmountable at times. When that happens we have a choice to stay and fight or run to a safer place as the characters in this book had to choose. The story of their rise above their challenge is excellent. I finished this book in one day.

This was another great read in this series. Sierra, her mom, and her sister have been on the run from her father since Sierra was young. Sierra is the guardian of her sister's baby son after the death of her sister and brother-in-law. Forced to flee from men who are after her, Sierra encounters Kyle, whom she had gone to high school with. After finding out the truth from Sierra, Kyle and his veteran friends help protect her and Daniel from the men after her.
The story line was wonderful with suspense, non stop action, and romance.

What’s better than binge-watching a favorite show on TV? Binge reading a fantastic series like Triumph Over Adversity. This is book 3 in the series and is a gripping, fast-paced mystery full of twists and turns, plenty of action, and wonderful characters. I love the interaction between the various characters, and the relationship of Kyle and Sierra is palpable. I’m loving this series and highly recommend it! Books don’t have to be binge-read, or even read in order, but they are all worth reading!

This charming suspensedful story has you hoping with each page that Sierra is able to stay safe & out of danger. Kyle coming to her rescue was just fate. Loved how they had a connection but it wasnt forced or disrespected. It grew slowly though there was history. Loved the friends who stood by them and Kyle's family. Beautiful story indeed!.

Nonstop Action

This story contained nonstop action with so many twists and turns the author had you going in circles. I loved these two together. They both came into contact again during their respective grieving process and while Sierra was in danger. I loved the background Ms. Shannon gave Sierra and while tragic, it gave so many options for the direction of the story. This was romantic suspense at its best.

Necessary Peril

This book starts with action and danger. It doesn’t let up until the very end. Sierra and Kyle had dated in high school but she was whisked away by her mom before their crush could turn into romance. Now Sierra is raising her nephew and on the run from professional hit men when Kyle finds Sierra and the baby along with her broken down vehicle on the side of the road. Will Kyle be able to keep her and the baby safe without losing his heart?

Loved it!

Man, these books are so good. I just finished reading Lynn Shannon's latest in the series, Necessary Peril, and I loved it! The plot was fast-paced and entertaining, with just the right amount of suspense. Sierra and Kyle were likeable and easy to root for. I loved all the heated glances and the swoony kisses. What I enjoyed beyond a fantastic story, was that it was a clean romance, and the Christianity didn't hit you over the head.

Another Enjoyable Adventure

I didn't want to put this book down. Lynn Shannon has written another awesome story with a couple of MCs I can and did root for. The twists were interesting.

A couple things weren't really as surprising as they could've been. There were also a couple of typos, but no major faux pas marred my enjoyment.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series. If you enjoy inspirational, suspense, romance, then I'll recommend this book to you.

Of all the roads in this lonesome county...

I loved this book from the opening page! There is a lot of heart stopping moments because, let's face it, having brutal mobsters trying to kill you is not a picnic. Kyle and Sierra are great characters and having the same friends involved throughout this very enjoyable series ties everything together. I grab these books as soon as they're offered!

Sierra is having a hard time and she is carrying around a lot of heavy baggage. Kyle is suffering and trying to make a life for himself. When they meet again after so many years the attraction is almost instant. The action is immediate and the danger is never ending. The emotions are strong. The writing is nicely done. The ending is a pretty package wrapped in a bow.

A repeat of the first two

Number 3 in the Triumph over Adversity series is exactly the same story as book 1 and book 2. All stories revolve around a group of young veterans with one member taking the staring role in each book. If it wasn't for the change of names, you would think you were reading the same book again. Really disappointing and definitely won't be reading any more.

Kyle, Sierra, and Daniel

Sierra’s sister, Lucy and her husband were killed in a car accident but 5 week old son, Daniel is alive and well. Sierra was trying to flee town as soon as Daniel was released from the hospital. The story begins here and gets dicey wondering if Sierra and Daniel were able to hide from the mob. Will they make it? You can’t put the book down in til you finish. Enjoy.

Great action.

Great action and romance. A few items were a bit far fetched and in consistent, but in general it was a fun quick read that delivered a good rest from the day.

Christian references are well balanced and not preachy, but more a part of the characters.

Romance level: kisses

Her knight in shining armor

Kyle would move mountains for Sierra and she has many to move. Her father is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get her nephew. Can the two of them break the barriers between them to find a way to safety and freedom or will Sierra be forced to disappear again? Intriguing is an understatement. Couldn't read pages fast enough.
