After a near-death paranormal experience, it's good to be home.Until the FBI shows up...Our too warm-for-comfort paranormal research trip in Birmingham leaves the team with a lot to be thankful for as we carve the turkey.
My plan for a holiday slowdown at the law office is squashed as the FBI explodes into Guntersville. Now I'm busier than a moth in a mitten.
Still, I can deal with the Feds and enjoy the annual family festivities.
What I can't cope with is the uninvited houseguest Liza brought home from Alabama. We might not be around for Christmas...
I learned early it's not acceptable for me to talk about the weird things I see at night or the whispering voices in my room. They told me there's no such thing as ghosts. Dead folks don't hang out in little boy's bedrooms, and I have an overly active imagination.
They were right about the imagination.
Later, I discovered that while talking about "such nonsense" is taboo, writing stories about paranormal events is acceptable. I've been hooked ever since.
You may find the female characters in my books to be ridiculously smart, tough, resourceful, and occasionally a hot mess. This is not only because I find this style of protagonist intriguing. Writers write what they know. Where I come from, most women fit into this category.
April May Snow, the protagonist in the prequel series The Gifts Awaken and the full-length novel series Foolish, is a young woman who personifies a strong woman. She just doesn't know it yet.
The April May Snow books are a paranormal women's fiction series. They are not a midlife series. Considering the multitude of dangerous situations April finds herself in, they might be past her midlife. Let's hope not. I've come to love her and hope you will, too.
To round out my Bio, I was born in San Diego and raised in Birmingham. I like to think I keep a California surfer's attitude toward life most days while conversing in a heavy Southern drawl.
I now live a few miles outside of Nashville. Since I can't play the guitar, which is a genuine impediment to being a successful country music singer, I continue to write books, which I enjoy immensely. I hope you'll receive as much joy from reading one of my books as I get from bringing it to life.
I keep waiting for April to grow the hell up. So far no go. These are free from Kindle unlimited so I have kept going against my better judgment. I’m pretty sure the series is finished but if I had read from the beginning I would have asked that April stop being such a contradiction and grow up. The constant whining of a 27 year old is…well… old. She made it through law school at the top of her class which would give credence to arrogance but not this level of immaturity.
I really love this series and how April May Snow's paranormal abilities are growing. We know about her mother's mother, Nana Hirsch, being known as a witch and quite magical. We learn a lot more about her daddy's mother, Granny Snow: it seems she used to be am exorcisor; you know, like in The Exorcist! This means Granny Snow, the Bible thumping religious lady has extreme magical powers, too, such as manifestations. This book starts off with her and Liza helping Dusty with one of his haunted house projects. It seems there use to be a family who lived in the house whose little five year old boy disappeared and was never found. April sees this little boy's ghost, as well as a 10 foot maniacal clown. The little boy tells her he has to hide so that the bad man won't find him. He protects the clown because he says the clown is his only friend. The little boy's disappeared ad the identity of "the bad man" are never revealed, even to the end of the book. Liza is injured very badly during this case when the clown throws her across the room. Then the clown doll, not the 10 foot clown, follows Liza home, and no matter how many times she burns it in the fireplace, the crazy thing comes back. I believe the little boy's spirit and his clown doll both followed Liza home so that April and Liza would solve the story about his disappearance. However, as said before, this mystery was never really solved. This was disappointing to me. Maybe since the other case in this book was not figured out, either, maybe both cases will be completed in book #6. The second case is through her law firm. Lexi, the mother of two little children, is accused of killing her husband in a car bomb. Did Lexi kill him, have him killed, or is she innocent? April doesn't know for sure, but she's determined to get her released from jail in time for the Thanksgiving holidays. A third mystery was completely solved: a house haunted by a little girl who had died of cancer and couldn't find her mommy. The little girl probably died forty years ago and her mommy, who had just die at the age of 70 something. This part really made me cry when April had to gently tell the little girl that she and her mommy were dead, so that the little girl could cross over past the broken veil. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue in this episode, as well as mind/body transference episodes, manifestations, and a fire that April starts with magic, and two hot guys that are interested in April May, Lee (friend from high school), and Jacob (the sheriff), three if you count Luis, one of the guys on the house haunting team. I gave this book 5 stars and hope the 2 unsolved mysteries in this novel are solved in book 6.
I was 80% through this book, bored with this one, and I almost moved on when I realized was almost done! Too many chapters lamenting on the woes of the stupid mistakes made. There was NOTHING in this book that could not have been condensed down to a few chapters in another book. Nothing! No information, no stories, no story line, nothing. This was a useless book in the series so far. Where are the ghost hunts we were promised? Where is the paranormal experiences? If I wanted useless romance there are a thousand other books out there to read. I chose these for the mixture, so far this one was disappointing.
I am so conflicted about this series. I like Everybody more than I like April May. She can be so silly, stupid, and sickenly immature. I continue to read the series because I, like her family, keep waiting on her to grow up and realize that not only is she gifted and talented but very much loved. Also, I know it's the south, but come on, what's with the name, April May?
This book contained more paranormal aspects, than the MC's lawyer professional duties, compared to previous books. I still can't decide if I really like April or not. She's wishy-washy and has atrocious follow-through. She never seems to tell anyone about anything important that is going on and lies a lot just to make it easier on herself. There was a pretty significant situation with Liza that wasn't resolved.
There was intriguing paranormal horror type stuff occurring that kept my attention. The characters continue to show more of themselves and most have growth. April is the exception. She has amazing skills and apparently is a sought after attorney. Her emotional immaturity is annoying to say the least. She has grown up with loving parents and siblings that are nurturing so it seems to be intrinsic with her.
The plot thickens and I have to get on to the next book
Ok so I really don’t believe people read reviews on book 5 in a series… I think more people believe in ghosts and demons than the number of people who do. However if you are the rare and unusual soul that does, trust me, this is a clean mystery, romance, comedy, paranormal fun ride!
I always love when a new April Snow book shows up on my reader. This is a particularly good one. April is starting to figure out what she really wants and discovers new secrets about her family. Looking forward to the next one.
April is still growing up. She still doesn't believe in who she is, or what she should do. Love these books. It is great reading about April's adventures and all the other characters. A very good book.
Great story! Crime, ghosts, and strong southern female!
Love this series! Humor mixed with just enough paranormal, romance, and mystery!!! Strong southern female characters with tight family ties. Can’t wait to read next book!
I enjoy this plot and the characters who make it interesting. The paranormal twists add excitement, and the potential romance adds some heat. Not too graphic, mostly suggestive and colorful. Well done!
At first April annoyed me but I see her growing as a person and now I'm happily following along on her adventures. She and Jacob need to get together though. The anticipation is killing me.
April May Snow is a really enjoyable read. I have all the books out in this series and I look forward to her various adventures. Her learning the very interesting gifts from the grandmother's keeps getting better and better.
I enjoyed the pace of this book. The interaction between this family is hilarious at times and there are also tender times when you know a family that loves each other. Now I'm ready for the next one
Another excellent, exciting book! I love the twists and turns and not being able to guess the conclusion of the story. I also love the humanity and kindness. Highly recommend this book.
This book was a little scary! The paranormal activity was harsh and difficult to eliminate. New skills were introduced and not necessarily fun, happy skills. A possible love interest that comes with a warning as a heartbreakier from a friend. And a grumpy cop.
I do enjoy the paranormal portion of this series. They change with each new book. I’m not used to series that are this long, but I am enjoying the characters
