Midlife Magic in Marshmallow #5

Crosswords and Curses

Rate this book
I'm living Murphy's Law with a magical twist.

If something can go wrong, it will. Monsters show up. And then I die.

And then I die again, and again, and again.

I'm stuck in a time loop, and the mistakes I have to fix aren't even mine. Some idiot in the coven causes a hiccup in my plans, and I have to start over.

The only person who will listen to me isn't a person at all. It's a ceramic garden gnome.

It's possible I lost my marbles on the road to Marshmallow.

But if I can't figure out how to manipulate this ragtag group of witches into making the right choices, I know where this loop takes me.

To the end of the world.

I recommend reading this series in order, it seems something gets added at the end of each one. Especially the previous book, that one last thing to prevent the end of everything.

This book, opens going back in time about nine weeks, centering on Angela who goes back to this point every time she loses in her quest to save everyone. She wakes in her van and finds herself in a naked man's arms. The first time she totally freaks out, as anyone would. The second she is more aware and then we begin going through the sequence of events as they occurred with Angela.

First with Brianna, a brief encounter with Remedy, then Molly and of course Jen, her coven. Then there's that man she keeps waking up with. What a pleasant surprise that is.

Now that we know who and what Xavier is things get even more interesting.

The way Angela records each version of these days and then figures how to fix things, although it doesn't quite work the way she hopes. Each time she resets she hopes it's the last time.

Everyone has a role to play in preventing the end of everything, Remi, Julian, Davey, Brianna, Jen, Baku, Ambrose, Molly, Lily, Fernando and especially Xavier and Angela.

This book is as much fun as it is frustrating. Each iteration bringing us closer to the end of this series.

I look forward to reading the next series in this world, Midlife Magic in Memoriam.

This story runs concurrently with previous books in the series. They should be read first or you will be very confused. It is told very humorously from Angela Chamber’s point of view, who finally appears to the coven in Book 4. She has been predicting, and trying to prevent, the end of the world in many different ‘replays’ in Books 1 - 4, but no one has believed her so those timelines were destroyed, causing Angela to loop back in time. Confusing? Best to start with Book 1 and read sequentially for full (or at least a better) understanding. She’s suffering from Groundhog Day experiences that start with her awakening in the arms of a naked man, Xavier, which then ‘rewind’ upon her death. She meets (and remeets) Brianna, Molly, Jen, Fernando, and other characters from previous books. Over the course of numerous “days” leading up to Halloween, she and Xavier gradually develop a plan to finally convince her allies to help her save the world. Fortunately for the world, they were finally successful and got a well-deserved HEA ending.

Where is Angela at in the start of the book? What happens when she wakes up with her unable to move in her van? Oh my… poor Angela is having a nightmare version of Groundhog's Day!!! Who are Weaty, Xavier, Jen, Brianna, the redhead, Remi, and Fernando? What happens when Brianna goes to the library? How long does Angela stay in the loop? Can she ever get out? Watching her try all the different things she did made sense! What happens when Henrietta gets Angela with the knife? What happens when she interacts with Murray? Can Rewind ever get the looping to stop? Read and see what happens!

Someone else mentioned Groundhood Day--and how right. Wake up (crammed in the van) and go through it all again and again and again... No friends to help--well except for the gnome. It has to be a curse, right? But what and how's she supposed to deal all alone?

Plenty of humor, the unexpected, with so much to tell but had to pick without giving spoilers. Just know you are in for a great read that will have needing tissues--happy/its so funny tears. Enjoy.

What a ride!!!

This being the final book in the Marshmallow coven series, its only right that it is the time looper,Angela's, story. Get ready for the wildest ride of out favorite coven, with the Looper reliving days over and over again before the story is correct and right. Blackwood has made the best of a confusing talent, and you can never tell which days are going forward or getting reset. Makes for one of the most amazing reads ever!!!

poor Angela is the witch stuck with bizarre time looping magic

how many times do they get stuck in doomsday?

and annoyingly, she remembers time line happenings most of the others do not, so she's a suspect for some of the weird troubles they face

can some pretty powerful folks work out a way to avoid a terminal for the town kind of doomsday?

intriguing and funny and sometimes frustrating adventures for a gaggle of no longer young women embracing their midlifes

Another fantastic addition to this series. I wasn't expecting to laugh out loud liked I did. With the added action, intrigue, and adventure definitely make for a helluva read. Can't wait for the next book in this series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.

Not so loopy, but a laughable good read

I love how the story ties into previous books but can still be read as a stand-alone. I lol’d and felt saddened by the time looping adventures of Angela. I thoroughly enjoyed reading another of the “Midlife Magic in Marshmallow” books. I can’t wait for the next.

Rewind!

The last member of the coven gets to tell her story amd it's a dozy. Angela is a free spirit drifting from place to place & when she lands in Marshmallow, for the first time, she feels home. Angela has far more strength than she gives herself credit for because her "gift" would drive most people insane. She steps up big time though and earns her forever.

This series had me on the edge of my seat.

Every time, in each book, when I thought it couldn't get any better, Kiera Blackwood threw another curve ball into the story. This last book kept me up all night. She is a wonderful writer, and I recommend anything she writes. Wonderful imagination, Kiera!

Original storylines with many diverse characters

It was so good to read a midlife paranormal fiction series with an original quirky set of magical characters and their powers.
Just enough romance too. I loved this series and look forward to the next.

interesting

I love these stories and I struggled with the numerous rewinds of Angela’s story. Angela is awesome. Xavier is amazing. The whole gang is fabulous. I’m not sure I’d want that many rewinds in real life and I love the idea of being able to repeat to get it just right.

Ok I am sad, this was the last book in the series 😢. I want more. I LOVED the different versions of the loops and how things changed! Honestly wish we got more stories, like Murray's or the Muses or Lillys!!! I loved this world.

way to long

I have really enjoyed all the books I this series until this one. It took forever to get to the end and could have been much faster. I’m so glad I got through it but definitely won’t be reading it again

This book can be passed in the series. It is a version of Groundhog Day. Doesn't really add anything and it drags on and on.

Okay I should not have jumped into this mid series. I did like it but I didn’t really know anything. I haven’t read many time loop books and this was interesting
