Katrina is on a mission to find Verisom and a dealer named Turnip that deal in rare artefacts but having found a mysterious gemstone, ends up transformed and working with Kita’s angels. Kita is working through different universes, while trying to keep her family safe and help newly transformed Katrina understand all that is happening now, but it isn’t without sacrifice to once again save the worlds.
As always, with Kita and her angels there is never a moment of peace. There is always a new threat or battle in which they find their powers tested. You have to admire their strength because the things they endure and survive are often brutal and exhausting, but they always succeed no matter the cost. As this book is part of a series you will really benefit from reading the other books first to fully understand the universes and purpose of the angels, but if you do read this alone, you can still get an idea of what they’re all about and the sense of adventure that follows them.
Having already met Kita in previous books, and some of the other angels, it was great to catch up with them and find out how situations and life was developing their character. Kita has a lot more at stake this time, including her much loved family. She is once again challenged physically and emotionally, always rising to the challenge and using all her smarts to come out on top. That doesn’t mean it isn’t without consequence for her, and when that happens, the emotional toll it takes on her is getting harder.
Really enjoyed exploring the intricately connected universes with Kita, as she sought more answers and fought for justice.
Another fun, action-packed adventure. This one switches between two universes: one where Kita is held captive, awaiting her memories and full powers to return, and another previous universe that she's slowly remembering where Kita, Apocalypse, and their daughter explore and get into some trouble (as usual). I love the Prii race (the one depicted on the cover) and their connection to nature. Also love how Kita invites members of all sorts of races to join her as Angels.
This was a brilliant book. A collection of short stories that switches between Kita being a captive and a different universe where we get to peek in on her life with Apocalypse and her daughter, you'll find a tale that will keep you turning pages for hours. There were heart racing moments, ones that will make you smile, and times you'll wonder just what's coming next. I really enjoyed reading this, the main characters are brilliantly developed, and the world building is superb. You don't need to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one, either! Highly recommend if you're a fan of lesbian fiction, sci-fi, or badass angels!
