Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. The only joy I get is the brief rushes of adrenaline that only come when I’m on my motorcycle.
All that changes when five strangers walk through the door of the diner I work at. The connection between us is instantaneous and undeniable. That is until they tell me I’m their Alpha – the first female Alpha in over a thousand years. That breaks the spell pretty quickly.
Naturally, I laugh in their face and don’t believe them.
But after a suspicious death of someone close to me, and when I’m attacked by a man who turned into a wolf right before my eyes, I have to reassess what I know of my world.
Then I’m saved by the five men who seem unperturbed by the whole incident, I can’t pretend that wolf shifters don’t exist anymore.
With their help and guidance maybe I can navigate this new world.
The boys from the Luna pack, Stone, Krew & Kai (the twins), Reed, and Zeno have all received their mark, but they have yet to find their alpha. They set about a journey to locate their leader following clues from Kira, a seer, and longtime friend of the pack.
Alpha Wolf follows the story of Esme, a latent wolf shifter, oblivious to her true identity.
In all the history of wolf shifters, there has only been one female alpha, so it’s exceedingly rare. As such, Esme is sought-after, not just by her pack, but by others as well. The intentions of the Midnight Wolves, who have been tracking her, are nefarious. Though Esme has been clueless that the carnage plaguing her small town is related to her until the boys arrive.
Between the budding relationship between Esme and her pack, and the attacks by the Midnight Wolves, there is no lack of action! Likewise, I really connected with several of these characters and liked the unique personalities of each, even Reed, who is a complete @ss! That said, I do wish that Esme’s transition from clueless to Alpha had not been so abrupt. I would have liked to see that develop in a more natural way.
One of my favorite aspects of a RH storyline is seeing what each member of the harem brings to both the individual and collective relationship. Rune did an excellent job of showcasing each member‘s personality and making them an integral part of the overall relationship.
“It’s not that Stone isn’t enough, because if it was them and without him, it wouldn’t feel complete. They all serve a purpose in your growth. You just don’t know it yet.”
The cliffhanger in this book is why I don’t read them! What a way to leave us hanging! I’m looking forward to the next installment and learning what Esme and her boys do next!
📝 Genre: Paranormal Romance
🗂 Tropes: Reverse Harem
📣 Alpha Wolf is book one of the Moon Born Academy series and ends on a cliffhanger.
I really really wanted to love this book. The writing was juvenile and the speech jilted and stiff. I’m not sure if it was the editing and/or writing style but there was enough strange writing choices throughout the first few chapters, that I managed to actually read, that It’s a DNF for me.
If it ever gets a re write I’d give it another go.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this book. I don’t even think I read the synopsis, I just went for it and it was so good. I think this is a good group and I loved seeing their feelings to the new changes and how to handle everything. The ending was a little rude and now I need more. I definitely recommend if you need a quick shifter reverse harem!!
So the writing is a little bit hard on the eyes as this book definitely needed an editor. That being said, nothing really happened in the way of knowing who she is/her connection w/ Luna or any deep dive into this particular world. Mainly just her development with the boys and by that I mean her, in Reed’s words, “being a whore” lmfao. On to book 2!
Emeray moves around a lot trying to find where she fits. She’s been in this town for a year and is working as a waitress when 5 guys show up one day. Stone, Kai, Krew, Zeno, and Reed are looking for their alpha and are surprised to find Emeray is their mate and alpha. After a betrayal and Emeray finding out about shifters, they whisk Emeray away to an academy. I really liked how Emeray turns their life upside down. I do wish they explained more to Emeray about what it means to be an alpha, as she just seemed to be figuring it out as she once. I really didn’t like Reed, and I feel like he needs to do a lot of groveling for me to like him - and maybe some pain. Considering Emeray didn’t know about shifters, I also feel like she handled. Finding out about it a little too well. But overall, I was hooked and am excited to see what happens next.
The writing seemed very juvenile honestly like a wattpad novel. I have been reading reverse harems for about 3 years now and it seems like this author took bits and pieces from other trending books and spliced them together to make a "original" book. Specifically I have noticed its like Outcast by R.L. with similar main plot points and correlation between the alpha-hole male character and then she has Kira as a seer as it is in Outcast. I will give props in including a FMC with a unique disability because that's not something you seem often. It could have been a better book if it was written better and with unique idea. Overall 1 out of 5.
A strong first in a series, Alpha Wolf follows Esmeray, a wolf shifter alpha who’s still finding her place in the world.
Esme is badass and I loved her easy-going but confident attitude. She’s going to have her hands full with all of the hot wolf shifter boys that are coming her way!
If you like werewolf romances, this one will be a treat for you. It’s also a RH story, which means our girls gets to keep all the wolves to herself!!
When she learned about Luna creating mates for herself that should’ve been her first indication that she could have more than one. A few inconsistencies. This story started off in South Dakota, then we get to the end of the end and she says South Carolina. Or is that where she’s originally from.
DNF @42%. This book … was a lot, to say the least. First, I liked multiple POVs, but changing the POV every few pages was confusing as hell. The author seemed way more comfortable writing the story through the FMC’s eyes, so the guys’ parts often ended up being these weird little short passages that felt like afterthoughts. Second, the characters felt so 2D. The FMC had supposedly been friends with this girl for a year, only to find out she was actually an enemy who betrayed her. But there was no “How could you?!” or “What the hell happened here?!” moment, which, sure, might have been a little dramatic, but also … you know, normal. Instead, she instantly flipped into “there’s something wrong here” mode and ran to her guys. There was just a little mention of feeling betrayed, and then she moved on. Oh, okay. I guessed she got betrayed by her bestie every day. Cool. Everything moved so fast! And then she started hearing voices, and I thought oh, it was her wolf! Finally! But later she met Kira and realized Kira had been the voice in her head, telling her she was there to guide her, and the FMC was just … okay with it? No “How could you speak in my head?” or “So you don’t need a phone to call people? I’m jealous because, you know, my wifi bill is getting expensive!” She just threw the “I trust you” card and waited until the second meeting to ask why Kira could hear her mind?? This girl’s brain was slower than a fucking snail. Mind you, this happened right after the bestie betrayal. I’m sorry, but the last time I attended the How to Be a Sane Person class, this wasn’t normal or smart behavior. Third, the author rushed the fight scenes. One minute the FMC was surrounded by wolves, and before we even got a chance to feel the tension, it was over in a few paragraphs. It was a book about shifters, ffs. If you weren’t gonna show me some claws, fangs, and a little bloodshed, how were we supposed to feel their power? Also, why did the guys just leave her like that after she woke up from an attack that made her pass out? Maybe it was just me, but if my mate woke up from a brutal attack that left her terrified and bleeding, I’d at least check if she could stand up, if she needed water, a snack, or literally anything before going back to whatever business I was doing. Fourth—and this one was my biggest ick—the FMC was supposed to be an alpha, but she needed saving every. single. time. And she passed out more than a smoker promising to quit. Of course, I knew we were supposed to wait for her character development since she thought she was a regular human her whole life and all this supernatural stuff was new to her. But honestly? I didn’t have the patience. Fifth, the writing.
The concept is interesting and this world/magical system is as well. All of the guys are very interesting too. I want to like Esmersy, but she's often written in a confusing way. She started off super confident and brave, but then a huge chunk of the book is her behaving in the complete opposite. We briefly see her trying to learn her abilities but it isn't consistent. Each of the guys are interesting enough, which is why I think the author missed out on an opportunity to have more of the story told from their POVs. Also, this book needs proper editing.
I've now read all three books, and I can say that giving each book 2 stars is being generous! Each book is nothing more than a group of 8 or 9 young wolf shifter males between the ages of 18 and 20 having sex with their 19 year old wolf shifter female Alpha. That's it!! Yes, there was a brief attempt at a mystery plot around the creation of demon wolf shifters but over the course of the three books that probably accounted for 10 pages. Thank goodness these were free books otherwise I would have wasted time and money!
Honestly in my opinion the writing isn’t easily good, it feels very stiff and the quality of the story is also lacking but this is the stuff that I want to read, a werewolf romance with a bit of steam and therefore it hit all the cravings. I wouldn’t buy the book tho but since it’s on KU - don’t mind if I do!
I’m kinda speechless after that last scene...but then again...great first in the series full of anger, rejection, eventual acceptance, and a little misogyny thrown in for good measure. Loved the FMC even if she does drive me a little barmy for being so ‘blind’ and each of the MMCs is kinda unique with some really annoying quirks. Giving it 4 stars. Nasty cliffhanger. Recommend.
This is gonna be one of my favorite werewolf shifter series. I can already tell. So you have Emeray that is the alpha wolf but is also a female. It is very rare for an alpha to be a female and has only happened once with Luna that started the werewolves. The thing is Esmeray didn't know she was a wolf because she has never shifted before. Not only is it spicy but you have an amazing plot as well. Highly recommend you read this.
Um…YES. This was so good, so so so so so so good. I was going to rate it 4 stars until Esme was written as a black woman. This was phenomenally written. I am obsessed with Kai, Stone and Zeno…Krew before…just read it.
But holy cow, Rune, I loved this. I want the next book now, like literally yesterday. The guys were incredible. ESME IS LITERALLY MY FAVOURITE PERSON IN THE BOOKVERSE. SHE IS INCREDIBLE AND THE PART WITH REED AND THE CHAIR?! TOO GOOD.
Review 2: Okay so I reread this book and upon further reflection I have no idea where my mental state was the first time around because this wasn’t very interesting. I feel like so much happens but so little happens at the same time and I’ll talk about it when I review book two which I read today as well…but yeah.
This book had a lot of things happening in each chapter. I loved the dif povs, and how everyone felt a pull to one another. I hated how Reed treated her though, and how she never really stuck up for herself which is the only reason I rated this book as a 4 star instead of 5 stars. The fmc is a bada$$ who can’t get enough of adrenaline highs, cliff diving/jumping, crotch rocket speeding etc. Then the men show up, her best friend betrays her, and one of her men/mate/pack mate treats her like $hit, she does nothing. Even when she finds one of her “mates” with his d!ck down some chicks throat and he says they all don’t mean anything, including herself if she was to get involved. Instead of blowing up at him, she shuts down, listens to Reed being a twat waffle to her and cuts her down in front of everyone and no one really says anything to him. Then the the book ends with his hurtful words…. I don’t think there’s any coming back from that. I’m not sure why the demon wolves want her but everyone should want to protect her. Just because she can’t shift, her skin condition Vitiligo removed her alpha mark so no one can see it but she has 1 picture left of when she was younger with her father and it showed her alpha mark. The same that all the boys have. Forgiving Krew after he screwed around, letting Reed into his head, then the hurtful words he said to her after, not opening up to her and pushing her away after didn’t really mesh well with how betrayed she should have felt. Being cheated on, even if they hadn’t talked about it, that feeling of utter disparity.. then wanting to forgive him less than 12 hours later disnt sound “real” or natural, even in a rh paranormal romance.Any mate/husband/wife/soul mate would be utter devastated after catching the other red handed and I don’t think it felt natural the morning after how she responded to his texts like nothing happened. The hurt was real and I think she should have made him grovel a bit before speaking to him. Letting him come to her, not the other way around. She was such a bada$$ in the beginning but the last half of the book portrayed a different fmc. I hope she gets her stuff figured out, I hope she makes Krew grovel a bit before forgiving him, and Reed, well it will take a god damn miracle for me to like him. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Warnings 18+ Reverse Harem (RH) Female character does have several love interests and doesn't not have to choose who she wants to encounter with. May cause triggers.
Alpha Wolf is book one in the Morn Born Academy Trilogy by Rune Hunt. This is Rune's second book series with another book series and novella coming out mid this year.
It follows Esme who expectantly gets caught up in the Wolf pack and turns out to be the Alpha of the pack. Esme not only feels a pull with her mate Stone but also with the other 4 males; Zeno, twins Kai and Krew and Reed. Can an Alpha truly have 5 mates?
I bloody loved this book and being my first RH book just makes it that extra special. If you want SMUT in a Book, this is the book for you, Rune doesn't shy away from it at all.
The heat in this book was radiating off the pages onto me, so much so I had my husband ask me what I was reading. Explaining RH to him was a bit ah what would call it a bit challenging? I think reading smut is one thing but explaining it to someone face to face is like ten times worse.
I loved all the characters in this book, especially Stone and Krew. I think they are my favourites in the book. I really can't commend Rune enough for bringing each and every character to life, writing for 10 odd characters and keeping their personalities in check was just marvellous.
I was lucky enough to not only read the draft copy but Rune also gave me an ARC as well. For which I'm ever grateful. Thank you @authorrunehunt
WOW! I absolutely loved this PNR shifter story! As this is a new author to me, I was blown away by how emotionally charged her writing was. It pulled on my heartstrings and had me utterly enthralled with all of the amazing characters. The amount of imagery and world building throughout was phenomenal and completely transported me to Esme’s world. It was a wild and crazy rollercoaster ride that was packed with action, suspense, intrigue, intense emotions and so much lustfulness.
Esme is such a unique, fierce, strong, and witty woman. I loved her spunk and her snappy comebacks. She had me laughing like crazy throughout. But she also had my heart aching alongside of hers, which made for a very emotional few chapters. Her connection is instantaneous with her new pack and the steam rolling off the pages had my panties utterly melting. I could feel the build up of Esme’s pull towards each of her pack members. At times I was gripping my kindle so tightly I thought I might break it – I needed to know what was going to happen! And my nails – ugh – they are bitten down to the skin from all of the toe-curling intense moments she has between each pack member.
There are so many unanswered questions that left us hanging at the end. And what an ending that was. WOW! I was reeling with anger and pain for Esme and completely shook up by how it all ended.
Well written story that pulled me in right from the start and has left me begging the author for the next book in the series – like now!!
Esmeray has never quite felt at home in the town she has been living in for a year. She’s working in a diner as a waitress when she comes across 5 guys. Stone, Zeno, Kai, Krew and Reed. Unbeknownst to her, she happens to be their Alpha and mate. After her friend betrays her she gets taken to an academy to learn more about her kind and bond with her new pack and mates. Some of her pack were more welcoming than others. Personally, I hated Reed with a passion and wish Esme had did more to assert dominance. She was Alpha afterall. I do understand that she was new to the concept though. I loved Stone throughout this book. Definitely my favourite.
There is OW drama!! There is a scene where Esme sees Krew getting head at a party from another girl. They aren’t together at this point though.
NO virgins.
This is a why choose so she ends up with more than 1 person.
I liked this series and wanted to rate it higher. The spelling mistakes and misuse of present/past tense words however, had triggered me and had me raging. The book could have done with a good proof read.

THAT ENDING HOLY CRAP!!!!! I randomly picked this up when I saw that the main character is a Black woman AND the alpha of a male pack!!!! I did not expect to love this THIS much. I’m glad they struggled to accept her and tried to not bond with her because they didn’t want to ruin the pack. Technically this is a reverse harem but not all of them formed a relationship with Esme. She mates with Stone, insta love but with the other boys, it’s a slow burn.
Kai: ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. He is a precious cinnamon roll who does his best to not lust over her and tries to look away. It’s so cute
Stone: yummy, he would have been the alpha and instantly mates with Esme. He’s the first to accept her and be both dominant and submissive
Krew: He’s hilarious and cocky. Fully aware of how hot he is and flirts non stop with Esme. He’s the clown of the group
Zeno: He tries so hard to hide his boners by walking out of rooms that she’s in and it’s hilarious. He’s a sweetheart too
I received an ARC for Alpha Wolf and I was pleasantly surprised with the plot, character development and how well it was written.
It all starts when Stone, Krew, Kai, Zeno and Reed are searching for their Alpha. They stumble across a small diner and find what they believe to be is their Alpha and mate, Esmeray.
Throughout the book, there's a continuous pull between Esme and three of the wolves, however forming an instant mating to one, and experiencing the complete opposite for another.
I loved the depth of the connection between all main characters, and although there weren't a great deal of smutty scenes, the story was well written. I think I would have liked more resistance from Esme, i.e., her still needing to come to terms with what she is and who she is, as she was quite accepting early on, but it was a good, quick read, nonetheless.
Not a huge cliffy, but I'll definitely be reading book two, once released.
I received this book as an arc! And may I just say I have never been so sad that the book didn’t tell me what happened next I was on the edge of my seat the last chapter without even realizing I was reading the final chapter. A good beginner reverse harem I wasn’t overwhelmed with the events that happened or how they occurred was a great balance
This book took me all but 7 sentences before I was falling in-love with the characters especially knew and stone! I enjoyed the free spirit that the MC Esmeray was, the way she carried herself throughout the book was *chefs kiss* AND the spice scenes were delicious and easy to picture I didn’t have to imagine to deeply how it was going to play out.
I throughly loved how well written this book was, I finished this book in one sitting because I couldn’t believe what was happening between esmeray and her pack. I can’t wait to see what rune has in store for the group next I NEED to know.
Ma’am! How you gonna do us like that?! You came out with a sucker punch followed up by a round house kick straight to the gut with that ending. I mean I am here for it but damn can a girl get a slight warning LOL… Esmeray, this girl right here is strong. She has been taking care and looking after herself for a very long time and then she meets Reed, Zeno, Kai, Krew and Stone and the instant pull they have is undeniable. Not everyone is so willing to except her as their alpha or the bond that is starting to develop even though the tension bleeds through the pages. Esme is such an amazing FMC and she walks to the beat of her own drum and I freaking love it. The spicy scenes will leave you fanning yourself and panting for more. This is just the first book in the series and I am already hooked I need book 2 like yesterday especially with that epic cliffy that was a punch straight to the soul.
While I rolled my eyes and questioned why authors always seem to right similar books, I crazily enough enjoyed it. I read it right to the end even though I picked a hole in the plot line and scrunched up my noise at the pathetic attempt at a Female lead. What alpha?> You are telling me they didn't know the friend was a wolf even though she was in the same car with them? don't give me this poor " Esmerays scent was covering hers" bullshi*t. Crap excuse to get what u need to happen in the story.
While its set in a school, I'm not sure why they even bothered. You only get introduced to one teacher and everything else is just swept over. You hear more about lunch time than anything else.
Will this get better? unlikely. Will I still read it? yes, I'm going to attempt the second book. I'm hoping for a miracle, I want big changes in plot and more everything that's missed to make this book fantastic.
DNF - quit at 39% I just couldn’t get into this, it flowed awkwardly, there’s no world building, and the character development is flat. The developing relationships mostly felt forced between the characters, it’s set up as either it’s lust or hate, with mate bonds thrown in for explanations. I give some credit for giving the female character an issue such as vitiligo, but it’s one of those issues I don’t consider a true handicap to her well being to give any true recognition to the author for including “handicaps”. I didn’t enjoy this, was able to set it down to go to bed early, & couldn’t bring myself to pick it back up to continue.
At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
This book has amazing potential for the rest of the series. It has a great plot, there’s some steam, and rune really is just a fantastic story teller. I’m super excited to see where this story goes!
Quick synopsis of the book: Esme grew up alone and poor, as a young adult she worked at a diner to pay bills and that’s where she meets the 4 hotties🔥🔥🔥 that have been on the hunt for their alpha. But it turns out some is their alpha. The first female one to exist since the great Luna. And they weren’t the only ones looking for her. So were some mysterious smoky wolfs. On top of learning she’s the alpha she also learns she has a pull to all the hotties and has to navigate her feelings about each of them. But that’s pretty nice to read about so I’ll just leave it as that 😉🌶🌶🌶🌶
I really wanted to like this book but it just fell short in so many ways. And the fact that this was a recommended based on the last book I read is laughable, because this book is no a reverse harem situation. At least not this first book. unfortunately I will not be finishing the series to see if that changes.
I didn’t feel like there was a plot or a flowing story being told, it just felt like a bunch of random stuff was going on. Who was after this girl? Why were they after her? How come nobody was trying to figure out her lineage? Why was no one actually training her to be an alpha or a shifter? Where was the obsession, passion, worship, and devotion in this “reverse harem”?! The guys barely acknowledged if they had any feelings for her except for stone!
The age situation and setting was very weird for me, because are the adults? are they in college? Are they in between high school and college? because if so, that is very uncomfortable giving what the book genre is.
Also, is this book written by a man? the few sexier scenes that I read before I gave up couldn’t of been written by woman! There was no foreplay, there was no desire, acts of worship and devotion that I have come to expect in these kinds of books. It was just magically aroused, two pumps and a grind, and we done. Also, the wording was weird in some places but that might’ve just been an editing issue.
I was entertained just reading it, but not because of what I was promised the book would be about. It was just reading something to be reading something but as I kept going on, I just wanted it to be over.
Highlights: I wasn't expecting as much interesting lore and plot as I got but I really enjoyed it. Esme is a interesting lead because of how confident and charming she is and I loved her dynamics with all of the wolves. They dialogue was really quick and witty which kept the tone fun.
Lowlights: Reed's character was unbearable. He was antagonistic to a degree that was insane. I also wish the school part of the story was fleshed out more, I had questions about a lot of the world-building. Though since this is a series I'm sure they will be answered in the future.
Two words that continuously came to mind while I was reading this are juvenile and grammar. The book has good potential but isn't carried well with the way it's written. There isn't enough explanation about the world, the actions of the characters make little sense, and the scene jumping is dizzying. The lack of connecting one scene to the next led to a confusing read at times and certain events were unclear and unbelievable as a result. I liked most of the characters but couldn't really get behind Esme. I had a big problem with Reed and can say that I enjoyed every second of him rejecting the mate pull with Esme since he was such an ass. But as to what it means to be a mate, what it means to be Luna, what it means to be a Alpha, and why Esme can't or hasn't shifted are mysteries that I felt shouldn't be by the end of the book, or if they were the reader should have a solid understanding but that doesn't happen in this book.
