Matthew Porter is a children's book illustrator and writer. His stories and imagery present the perfect balance of nostalgia with modern elegance. His work has become ubiquitous throughout the Pacific Northwest and he has been called the undisputed king of the hipster board book genre.

His books are populated by wide eyed animals and his cheeky monkeys. Matthew's pieces are acrylic paint on wood. The artwork is sanded to highlight the woods natural grain and is rounded out by his use of strong bold lines.

This is my favorite ABC board book so far (and I've seen a lot in my time). I love Matthew Porter's art and this book pairs every letter of the alphabet with an animal drawn/painted in his signature style. The animals aren't all the ones you'd expect, either, which allows kids and parents to discover new kinds of animals (Yes, "M is for Monkey," but "U is for uakari," a specific kind of monkey - and one with a bright red face at that! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an ABC board book to give as a gift or a parent wanting to avoid ABCs with Barney or some shit.

It's an average ABC book. The animals all start to look the same after a while. The colors are appealing.
