She survived.

Kit survived her abusive husband. Survived imprisonment and beatings from the Patriot Zealots. Now free and healing, she can make a new life for herself and her son…except he has attached himself to a terrifying, scarred, tattooed ex-mercenary.

Women take one look at him and flee.

An ugly childhood and combat left Hawk with scars, a rasping voice, and an aversion to talking. So, why in hell does the four-year-old stick to him like glue?

The kid’s pretty mother is smarter. There’s fear in her eyes when she looks at Hawk. That hurts. The sweet woman is everything he’s ever wanted—loving, affectionate, and patient. But after what she’s been through, she sure won’t want to be around men—especially the one who killed her husband.

He’d saved her.

Kit agrees with her son. Being near Hawk is the safest place on earth. Beneath the menacing appearance, he’s protective…and kind. The better she gets to know him, the more she sees him as a man—a very sexy man. But, considering what had happened to her, she knows—

No man would want her now.

A New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she’s renowned for writing heart-wrenching romances with laugh-out-loud dialogue, alpha males, and absolutely sizzling sex.

I met my dearheart when vacationing in the Caribbean. Now I won’t say it was love at first sight. Actually since he stood over me, enjoying the view down my swimsuit top, I might have been a tad peeved—as well as attracted. But although we were together less than two days and lived on opposite sides of the country, love can’t be corralled by time or space.

We’ve now been married for many, many years. (And he still looks down my swimsuit tops.)

Nowadays, I live in the west with this obnoxious, beloved husband and a seventy-pound lap-puppy. I’m a gardener, and I love nurturing small plants until they’re big and healthy and productive…and ripping defenseless weeds out by the roots when I’m angry. I enjoy thunderstorms, collecting eggs from the chickens, and visiting the local brewery for the darkest, maltiest beer on tap. My favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch next to the master of my heart, watching the fire, reading, and…well…if you’re reading my books, you obviously know what else happens in front of fires.

What a heartwarming end to the wonderful series. I was highly anticipating Kit and Hawk and I was not let down.

There's love and healing all around. And seeing the town of Rescue fully revived and new loves coming and growing... it is beautiful to see.

Well done. Although Kit reminded way too much of Beth from the Shadowlands, overall this was a great finale to the series with parts written from the POV of previous characters and a great comeuppance for the villain. Hero was heartbreakingly damaged but sweet, strong and sensitive. The heroine was quiet yet fierce and resilient and as usual CS writes adorable and brave children that melt your heart. So sad it’s over. 😭

This book is #4 and final stories of a short romance thriller series.

Each book starred a brother. 4 kids who were saved by a man. 4 kids who were not brothers by blood but became brothers because of this man.

Last book, hawk storie is very emotional. It is about recovery a terrible childhood and domestic violence and rape. From a man point of view (POV), from a woman POV and from a kid POV… Heavy topic to include in a romance, yet you can be very much insured that the author was very sensitive and kept all precautions to develop her story with anything that could trigger some of you, I personally didn’t read any gory or horrible details. It is written with a profound respect and knowledge. It is referred but never fully described

This story is of course romanced but it is also a message of hope. That’s how I feel after reading it.

This said, as usual, I found myself smiling, crying, teary, dreaming all long my reading. Cherise Sinclair is extraordinary to bring a wagon of emotions. It is a long book and I love her for it. Each chapter is a slice of everyday life, knowing, understanding, sharing characters life, love and struggles. And more.

More because Cherise Sinclair always add a solid plot in between. It doesn’t overpower the love story but it add something in the story.

Plus, she added kids. And like real life she added an adorable 4 years old kid who will find a happy ending.

The 4 books that compose this series are just best buddies romances you want to read and re-read. Even writing this review, I still have this smile on my face from the pleasure this author gives me… every single time. There is no BDSM whatever in this series. Just contemporary with ex army guys who fell hard for their woman (and kids).

The sad part is that now I will have to wait few months for the next book to be published. Cherise Sinclair is a great author and an automatic read.

This book will be published December 7th 2021.

Bye Alaska 😭

I love this series and the way it overlaps slightly with the Shadowlands. Every characyer has played a part along the way, and it all came together beautifully in the finale.

The Alaskan town of Rescue sure lives up to it’s name in this last story of the tóó short series!
Mako’s sons have to deal with those PZ “pissers” again,to make sure their latest additions to the small family are safe.
Because Kit and her little boy Aric need them, but mostly Hawk,to…

Kit was in a very bad shape when she,Aric, and all the other women and children were saved, and needed time in hospital to recover.
Aric did what she told him to,he clung to Hawk, knowing he was the one to keep him safe.
And Hawk, even though he was worried he’d do something to harm the kid,was só good to him!
Protected him, guided him,and gave him the support he so badly needed.
Because at one time,Hawk was a little boy like Aric, one that lived through abuse, too.
Not that he’ll ever talk about that…or admit he’s secretly worried he’ll turn into his father,no way.
And even if he admires Kit,for doing her best to be strong, for being the caring mother Aric needs, for being the caring person she is,he knows she’s not meant for him….

Kit is slowly recovering from her injuries, but her mental recovery has it’s ups and downs.
Stupid things can set off a panic-attack,no matter who or what it is.
If not for her bestie and her family,if not for Hawk, she wouldn’t have known what to do,or where to go….
Hawk is her rock, the one that is always there, patiently helping her and Aric.
She sees the sweet man behind the walls he’s put up,she sees the caring and careful way he treats her little boy.
Showing her, without words, that he’s allowed to be the boy he is without something bad happening.
The gentle way he treats him,ánd her, works it’s way into her heart.
And knowing this time she’s free to make her own choice, she chooses him,if he’ll have a damaged woman like her…..

If only those damn pissers weren’t still lurking around, trying to get revenge….
Trying to hurt her for exposing their organization ,and even getting their leader arrested.
Do Kit and Hawk get a chance at happiness?
Can Hawk lower his walls enough to let this sweet woman in?
Can she overcome her triggers, and enjoy the touch of this wonderful man?
Or will those pissers succeed with their evil plans?

I loved spending time in Rescue, with Mako’s sons and their families.
And knowing where they are now,it’s ok to say goodbye….even though i really want to stay a little longer!

Tantalizing, intriguing, and ultimately totally satisfying-Cherise Sinclair’s final installment of the Sons of the Survivalist is all of these and more.

Soar High tells the story of Hawk, the most damaged of Mako’s informally adopted boys, and Kit, the woman nearly beaten to death before the people of Rescue, Alaska, liberated the women from the PZ’s camp. These two wounded people are thrown together by circumstance, since Kit gave her son to Hawk when they transported her out of the compound. Aric sticks to Hawk like a tick, and despite Hawk’s forbidding appearance and reluctance to talk, trusts him completely. Even when his mother returns to the Hermitage to recover completely from the damage inflicted by the PZs, the four-year-old keeps returning to Hawk’s room to reassure himself his protector hasn’t left.

Slowly, the bonds of trust are built between Kit and Hawk, even though her experiences with the fanatics leaves her with a form of PTSD. There are several misunderstandings between them, but between counseling and the intervention of his brother, they become friends, then lovers, then more. But while the leader of the PZs dies in prison, his second in command is looking for revenge on the woman he blames for the fall of the group and the death of their leader-Kit. Can she and the rest of the family at the Hermitage survive a full out assault b y the remainder of the PZs?

While Cherise expresses her satisfaction with ending a limited series, and I agree, I foresee some future romances, perhaps between Aric and Master Z’s daughter, Sophia.

Altogether, this was a delightful read, with great characters, a fascinating plot, and a rousing adventure. There’s a reason Cherise Sinclair is an auto-buy for me, and this book is an excellent example of why.

This is the final installment in the Sons of the Survivalist series, and definitely, the one dealing with the greatest amount of trauma. It ties a nice bow on the series, and allows the reader who's journeyed with these brothers get to see them enjoy their HEA. Both MCs have dealt with some horrific physical and sexual abuse, and the story does delve into their therapy and their gradual move towards a relationship and eventual HEA. There are a few dangling threads that are resolved, and the overarching storyline's main villains get their comeuppance, but there are graphic descriptions of their thoughts, etc., that the reader should be aware of. If you're a fan of the series, I think you'll like the resolution, and if you haven't read it, I would recommend starting from the beginning to get the full effect, as long as you're aware of the possible triggers because it does have violence, assaults, kidnappings, and difficult situations that aren't for everyone.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed this as a completist, since once I start a series, it's really hard for me to stop. I love Cherise Sinclair's found family scenes and there's a good amount of action mixed in with the sweet. It all to let me close my kindle content with the ending, that's really all I ask for when reading.

I hate that with this book the series is over. I really like what the brothers are building their town and would love to see more of it. I do think this one ended things in a good way. We have a love story, lots of action and the brothers reflecting on all that Mako left them and all the good things that have come into their lives.

This one starts off pretty much where the last one ended. Kit is healing, Aric is Hawk's shadow. I loved seeing how Aric was accepted at the Hermitage, Kit as well once she was out of the hospital. I both loved and hated how Kit and Hawk were smitten with each other, it was great, but the way both of them thought bad things about themselves and what the other must think drove me nuts. I was glad when they finally talked things out. From there it was all good for them. I really loved how Hawk took things slow with Kit, let her set the pace, it was what she needed.

I laughed at all the "games" the guys played with the kids. Regan and Aric were great at them, maybe a little too great, because towards the end it all went to hell in hand basket and those kids....man did they do some brave things. I loved seeing everyone come together for that bit "battle" how with very little notice, the guys sprung into action, had people spread out to be more of a threat to the bad guys.

The ending was great, loved how "Doc" was there to talk to the guys and how they learned a bit about him. I also loved how Hawk was fought over for babysitting duty. You know everyone in this series will be living their lives happy and they all deserve it!

epic ending

Slowly over the course of four books, I fell in love with the Sons of the Survivalist and their women and now finally Mako’s most intriguing and damaged team member gets his happiness.

This book is so emotional and engaging, an absolute roller coaster of emotions. Kit, her son Aric, and Hawk all have scars from abuse and suffer with aftereffects. Their journey toward healing and toward becoming a family is beautiful.

I also enjoyed how the rest of Mako’s family was part of the book and we got glimpses of their POV. I missed some of the side characters like Felix, Dante, and Mayor Lilian who all have larger roles in the previous books and are less prominent in this final installment.

I love each and every part and I don’t want to spoil any of the storyline but one special scene needs to be mentioned in my review; the scene where Kit studies Hawk’s tattoos. How this man shows with his body what he can say with words. Heart wrenchingly and breathtakingly beautiful! I bawled my eyes out at that scene! And read it again. And again.

I also laughed with the banter between the brothers and their women.

And now I’m sad it is over. This series is going to be on my reread shelf, because the town of Rescue, Alaska and the Survivalist sons are definitely worth another visit. And another. Another.

Sad that its the final book in the series but what a great series its been. Hawk has been the most elusive of the 4 men and for me the most anticipated book. So heartfelt along with heartbreaking moments. Highly recommend this series.

MY REVIEW:

Literally finished this book in a day and a half! Omg I have been waiting so long for this book and waiting for Hawk's story.

We have seen Hawk over the course if the three previous books before and only gotten small glimpses into who he was.

He always seemed like the gruffiest of the brother. And the one that didn’t like people period.

And although some of this may be true, I had to know Hawk's side of the story. The previous book gave us a little about Hawk and Kit but not nearly enough.

Omg Hawk was such a tortured soul and so much nicer than I thought he was. He had a terrible childhood and was one of the boys rescued by Mako but it seemed as if he had the worst childhood prior to that than the other boys.

When Hawk saves Kit in What You See, she entrusts him with her 4 year old son Aric. To take care of and watch over until she can.

When she does this Aric sticks to Hawk like glue and Hawk can't figure out why. He think's he's scary looking and barely speaks. But little Aric see's past that and to the soul of Hawk and finally see's a man he can trust.

Beaten but not broken, Kit is trying to heal from her physical damage as well as her emotional damage. See's been through a lot and trying to recovered is harder than she expected.

At least she knows her son is safe with Hawk and her best friend Frankie. When Kit is released from the hospital and brought to the Hermitage - where the 4 brother live with their significant others - all expect Hawk of course - she finds so many people willing to help her get back on her feet.

Still healing from the damage that was done to her Kit starts to open up to the family around her as well as Hawk. After all he has to be a good guy with the way her son won't let him out of his sight.

“You good?” “Yes.” She leaned against him for a moment. “Thank you. Again.” “Can’t think of anyone I’d rather rescue.” The words were out before he could recall them.”

Hawk is always there for her and he can't even understand it. He's not use to being social. But he has a good heart.

“Evaluate shit everywhere. Like the grocery—where are the exits? Hiding places.” Her eyes started to tear. “I don’t want to live like that.” “Woman, you already do.” The blunt statement was like a slap in the face.”

While caring for her and her son he also teaches her to understand her surroundings and shows her how to defend herself. He also teaches her some of those survival skills he's learned.

“Both of us are supposed to hug,” she said in a small grumpy voice. She gripped his wrists and put them behind her back before resuming her hug. All right then. Carefully, he hugged her, and with a sigh, she relaxed. Snuggled. “Fuck, I missed you.” His voice sounded like someone had grated his vocal cords. Her breathing hitched. “Me too.” With a low sob, she started to shake, and then she cried. Appalled, shaken, he held her, even as contentment welled up inside—because she trusted him with her feelings. The entire time, her hold on him didn’t relax an iota.”

Both Hawk and Kit aren't great at communicating and have been so hurt in the past that they aren't sure how to deal with each other. But slowly they start to learn, and learn how to talk to each other. Although neither one of them are extra chatty.

“There aren’t many—if any—people who aren’t a mess at one time or another. Or lots of times. You’ve gone through a hellish thing. Try to remember that the people around you could have had their own distressing incidents or phases.”

Watching Kit heal and learn to trust again was so encouraging to see. Even though you've been through some tough times doesn’t mean you have to give up.

And, Hawk slowly let go of something from his past and move forward was everything!

“Love is something sent from heaven to worry the hell out of you. ~ Dolly Parton”

Hawk and Kit and Aric fit together so well, I am so glad that I got to read this book and see these three together.

And that I was able to see some of my favorite people from the previous books.

WOULD I RECOMMEND:

I loved this book! And Hawk omg he was so sweet and caring and considerate. He had so much patience with Kit and Aric.

I really enjoyed getting to see different sides of the story and seeing everyone from the all of the books. This was truly a great read!

I loved the family dynamic at the Hermitage and how everyone always pitches in to help the other. Also that they all contribute, everyone does work and no one is lazy. And if someone needs something they have each others backs.

The way that the town comes together to care for each other is so heartwarming. They really all help and care for one another.

I am just so sad that this is the end of this series, it was a great series. And I cant help but wanting more but I do understand that some series are meant to be shorter than others. I'm really going to miss Rescue Alaska and Mako's sons.

So even though these books can be read as standalones I definitely think reading them in order is the best way to go, that way you understand the whole story.

What a perfect ending to this series!
I had a great time reading this book and couldn't be happier for Kit and Hawk (and Aric!) to have found each other.
I was a little afraid at the beginning when miscommunication was driving them away from each other, and that is one pet peave of mine, but the nosy brothers wouldn't let that happen.
I just love how tight and close to each other the brothers are, you want to be part of their family and live with them at the Hermitage.
The way the landscapes and sceneries were described also made me want to discover Alaska!

For Cherise's fans you can go with you eyes closed, you will also have unexpected characters pop up for a short cameo, and I loved that even more.
I think I will just reread the whole series.

I can't find the words to convey how much I loved this story. Hawk and Kit have an amazing journey to their HEA and it's one you don't want to miss. I loved seeing previous characters come together in the story. I laughed, I cried, I got ticked off but most of all, I sighed at how much Hawk loved Kit. This is the last book in this series and I have enjoyed each one!

Soar High, the fourth and final book of the Sons of The Survivalist by Cherise Sinclair, is by far the most touching, sexy, and most heart melting of the series! Hawk and Kit touched my heart in a way that I never expected and I ADORE them!

Hawk and Kit and little Aric's story is extra special in my opinion. This story was emotional and amazing. I cried, I giggled, I sighed and my heart completely melted and then some danger and thrills were added to the mix that kept me on the edge and I loved it! There was really a perfect combo of heart, heat, and suspense. I want to read each of these brothers stories again and again because I treasure ALL the feels they give me!

Soar High gets a TOUCHING FIVE SEXY AND SWEET STARS!!

I really enjoy reading Cherise Sinclair’s books. She provides well rounded “normal” characters...by that I mean the male characters have insecurities, incorrect perceptions and in general difficulty communicating their emotions. It’s great to have heroes without all the answers but willing to investigate to find them.

The heroines acknowledge their weaknesses but again, willing to become more self aware and improve any shortcomings. It’s motivational!

The romantic couple are supported by realistic secondary characters whom if you have read previous books are true to character ie they don’t all of a sudden act differently to previous books. It’s very nice to revisit and read these characters supporting the main characters especially the”locals” of this ever growing community. It’s just a lovely world she has built in Alaska, simple, respectful and loving...apart from the baddies which are true to their characters too without having too much power. The action hopefully stays in the “this wouldn’t happen in reality” category but it’s fiction and expected but not over the top.

It was also great to have a cameo from Dr Grayson from the Shadowlands which was a great series too. 🙃

Hawk was more like a mountain glacier. Slow-moving and unstoppable. Hiding everything submerged within the ice, yet with unexpected sparkling waterfalls.
I thoroughly enjoyed this same-world series by Cherise Sinclair. While I'm sad to see it come to an end, she wrapped up the overarching storyline and left us with four happy couples. Seeing not only the growth of the Hermitage kiddos, but also Kit & Hawk made my heart happy. Loved that "Doc" and fam made an appearance, as well. Visiting Rescue, AK has been enjoyable and I'll miss my trips there. I had to give up on the hope of any continuation when the author noted: My dears: I know it’s tough to leave Alaska and the people in Rescue; however, the series is at an end and this is truly goodbye. I don’t know about y’all, but sometimes I’m in the mood for a shorter series rather than one that keeps going. So when you’re in that mood, come and revisit the Sons of the Survivalist. Love you all! Cherise

She also included a timeline for those reading both series (SOTS and MOTS):
The thirteenth book in the Masters of the Shadowlands series was: Beneath the Scars (Master Holt & Josie’s story). Several months later in the fall comes Defiance with Master Z & Jessica, which takes us to Alaska to meet the sons of the survivalist. The Effing List occurs the following spring. The first book in the Sons of the Survivalist, Not a Hero, overlaps the ending of The Effing List.

great end to the series

4 stars

It’s kind of sad to say goodbye to the crew in Alaska, but over the books they have made a fabulous family unit.

This one sees Hawk finally get his woman, someone who doesn’t see him as scary but as a safe haven. I really liked Hawk in this one, he is so patient with both Kit and Aric. His parenting skills may not have been traditional but his mentor was Mako and the style worked well for what Aric needed to help him overcome what he’d been through.

He was also really patient with Kit. He never pushed her and went at her pace. There was one episode of a miscommunication when he thought he knew what she was thinking but I give him big credit he tackled that head on and explained his actions.

Kit was a good female character. I liked the fact that work was done to get her back up and functioning after what happened to her, trips to the counselling sessions were also nice to see, she wasn’t left to her own devices and the magic man to make her all, better. She put the work in and it didn’t happened overnight.

This one felt at times a lot more action packed but I loved it.

A nice ending book and above all summarizing, where besides Kit and Hawk, we return to say goodbye to all the other three brothers and their companions and also concludes the main story that united these four volumes. I like Cherise Sinclair even when she doesn't write about Masters etc. so I enjoyed it, besides Alaska seems to me an interesting place to set stories and now I'd like to visit it one day, maybe in summer though.

Cherise Sinclair has hit the mark again with her books! I loved Soar High and thought it was a perfect way to end the story of Mako's sons. Soar High managed to be not only a love story between Hawk and Kit but also between Hawk and Aric, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance novel!

I was a little worried about the book originally and thought there would be pacing issues, considering the trauma that both Hawk and Kit have been through, but it was incredibly well-executed. It addressed each of their issues and showed how they worked through them, making their love story that much more complex.

Seeing Hawk's love for Aric blossom was a beautiful thing. And the trust and love shared between the two of them was incomparable; Hawk became Aric's father figure.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Hawk didn't think that he was good enough to love Kit, and that's enough to pull at anyone's heartstrings. The man who saved Kit, took care of her son as if he was her own and has put his life on the line countless times.

Throughout the book, Hawk works past this, and becomes sure that "they'd find a good harmony."

Kit, despite her time with the PZs, is still a strong, resilient woman. Time and time again, her bravery and compassion are highlighted in the book, and she's one of my favourite protagonists in this series. She loves her son, always puts him first, and over time, manages to love Hawk too.

And we see Aric, a traumatized boy, learn that he can trust Hawk to protect him, and stake his claim on Hawk as his father. We also get to witness his journey as sheds his scared shell and begins to see his mother can protect him again, and no one will hurt him.

I highly recommend the book to anyone looking for a sweet love story, has read the previous books, and likes a good amount of action/realism in what they read. Of course, the book can be read as a standalone, but I think it's so much more impactful if you read the series!

CW: previous sexual assault, panic attacks, guns, domestic abuse

This was a strong finish. I enjoyed Hawk and his self-revelations and watching Kit work through her trauma. I loved that Ms. Sinclair included therapy in the story and showed how it can be uncomfortable and helpful at the same time. Watching Hawk and Kit slowly slide into loving each other was so wonderful.

I wanted a happy ending for hawk, even more than the others. So beautiful!
This series brings to attention PTSD and the lasting effects of war. We owe so much to those who defend us, and even if they return physically perfect, the scars they carry on their souls are things that we as communities and individuals should do all we can to soothe. May god bless and comfort our protectors.

The final book of the series. And omg it was the best one ever. Love every character from book 📕 be all to book 4. The charters were amazing as well the story telling. This is the 4th and last book in this romance series set in Alaska. It stars four foster brothers who live off the grid. I definitely recommend reading the books in order, as the heros and their partners play a big part in all books. So, reading this book first is a definite spoiler for the others. There are many side characters from the town with bit parts, cute kids, suspense, action, some steamy romance, points of view from everyone, scenes and lots of family love.

This series ends with a bang. It was a slow read until half of the story then it started pick its pace, hence not a five-star read. The ending's conclude all the brothers' story, it was lovely to read how the community starting to thrive and coming together.
Can't get enough of the setting, I would love to read romance set in Alaska more.

Well, that took me on a wild ride that had my heart pumping and my adrenaline spiking! Then it had my heart melting and happy tears welling as the legacy of Mako settled in deep. This is Hawk’s story, the most closed off of the men. The one who doesn’t think much of himself because life has taught him that, and then reinforced it, from the very beginning. The man who is a part of something, yet still feels detached. The one who started out with baggage and still carries it. This is also the story of Kit and Aric. They have been damaged and traumatized. Abused and belittled and learned to stay off the radar because of that. Catalysts for the change that is coming over their lives, and in danger because of that. These three will invade your heart, make is sing, make is hurt, make it swell, and make it contract. As they work through what is part of them, they learn to rely on each other, become part of each others lives, and they learn to love themselves, and thus, each other. This is a family forming, part of it intact and strong, another part just having those first tendrils reaching out. This is a man and a woman figuring out how to re-learn reactions and learning about each other while doing so. It isn’t an easy path for any of them, but the results of their efforts are all the more beautiful because of it. I simply loved this book, the characters in this series, and this amazing conclusion to it all <3
