I had thought this series was about vampires based on the titles and its cover arts so I had been avoiding this for quite some time because I don’t like reading vampire stories in recent years. But thanks to someone who made the same assumption as I did and found out that it’s actually about a military magic school, I didn’t miss out on this series.
I like this first volume so far, especially ML, who is a self-centered misanthropic elite. He would shamelessly use his good looks to advance his cause and rarely hesitates to act on his desires. I also like the steampunk setting and it’s refreshing to find that entry age of the magic school is 18 years old, instead of some 15-years-olds saving the world. I’m looking forward to the next volume.
Review for the entire series:
I enjoy this series overall. There are a few irritating spots where MC was an exemplary pushover. But the story is full of surprises. Except at a few spots in the last 2 volumes, it’s a page turner. It’s also refreshing to read a non-isekai hard-core fantasy when the BL novel publishing industry right now is choke full of isekai novels.
Throughout the series, except for volume one, school life is mostly in the background, and most actions take place somewhere else. So if readers are looking for a school-based fantasy, they will be disappointed. But I don’t mind about it all.
