Book 1 of the Agent Carrie Harris Series
Formed of audio transcripts of covert recordings and team member journal entries, this file documents OPERATION DAWN WOLF, an EYES-ONLY covert operation to identify and terminate the perpetrators of ongoing [redacted] of the highly secret Special Operations candidate selection process.
The transcripts document the progression of covertly recruited 2Lt [redacted] (now known as Carrie Harris, aka Candidate Corra Hughes) through the agency’s Special Operations selection process, [redacted].
The files contain numerous redactions to protect the identities of current and past operations and operational agents, lowering the security status of the information from EYES ONLY to SECRET.
No details have been changed or edited, however the final report by [redacted] cannot be downgraded to SECRET and is therefore omitted.

July 26, 2022Just a quick note to record that I have read this but I am not writing a review. There's a simple reason for this: I sell my photos at craft fairs around the south of England and Mr GJ Stevens is often also at those craft fairs selling his books. In fact, that's largely why I read this: we always have a chat when we are at the same event and that is inevitably at least partly about his books or my photos. It only seemed right that I should read one of the books. But, that said, I would prefer to talk directly to him about the book rather than write something here that he will then read "second hand".

Audiobook: I was entertained by this story. I had to get used to the unusual format as the story was told through the transcripts of recordings between Carrie Harris and her doctor. The more the story unfolded, the more engrossed I became. Because I never knew exactly where the story was going, I listened to the whole audiobook in one sitting. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I enjoyed Deborah Balm's narration, and her performance enhanced my enjoyment of the story. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

I really enjoyed this book, it took me a little while to get past the way the book was presented but I was quickly hooked and couldn't put it down. I really liked the characters, and the suspense and intrigue, and the plot twist at the end was completely unexpected, I didn't see that coming! I can't wait for the next book, this is a series I can follow, Deborah Balm did a great job of narration. I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Am not normally a fan of 'script' type writing and I wasn't sure at first but actually this was a really good read.

An excellent introduction to agent harris have never read anything like this before but got to say I just loved it and started reading lesson learned straight after it highly recommend it

Took a little while to get to the style of writing. However, once I got going I throughly enjoyed the story.
Great characters and smooth writing.

I have to say, I was intrigued by the idea of a look behind the curtain of a special operations training course, especially one with a strong female lead. The format was different, but sounded intriguing in the blurb. Different isn’t always bad, and I was willing to give it a try because I’ve loved spy and special ops stuff in books since I read Eye of The Needle as a teenager. Also, the author seems to have taken a similar writing path to mine, writing a Zombie apocalypse novel first, then a thriller with a kick ass female lead, which makes me like him already.
Once I got into it, I really liked the format and I think the author made the most of it, but in the early pages I almost quit reading. There was a lot of “Personnel File” type information that probably reflects what one would find in a real file of this sort, but it didn’t draw me in or make me want to keep reading. None of it was critical information, and most gets passed on in one way or another later. Fortunately, this section was fairly short and, once we got into the meat of the story, I was completely hooked. Carrie’s strength and trepidation come through well as she describes her training to the doctor supposedly evaluating her fitness for the position. She’s smart, tough and a little introverted, but likeable. The pair spar for several rounds, each side feeling the other out, not wanting to reveal anything the other can use to gain an advantage, but eventually both let slip details they would rather not, and learn more than the other wants them to. Carrie relates the events of several training exercises and some of her past along the way. The reader and the psychologist know she’s holding some things back but she manages to remain mostly opaque as the doctor probes ever deeper into her psyche.
I was turning pages deep into the night on this one and the ending was excellent. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Agent Carrie Harris.

A very unique and clever thriller introducing you to agent Carrie Harris.
This book is written in a very different way to anything I've read before. I wasn't sure how it would work using transcripts to tell the story. Any fears I had that it might be boring or I'd fail to relate to the character were blown away within the first few pages. I was hooked on finding out the story of agent Harris's past and the harrowing events of the recruitment she is going through. It's not a job for the faint hearted that's for sure and Carrie Harris is a badass.
With 40% left to read I thought I'd pick it up and read a few pages while I ate lunch. The next thing I knew an hour had past and I'd finished the book. The end was satisfying and I hadn't seen it coming at all. This is an intriguing story and I'm really looking forward to book 2 to see how Carrie takes on her new role.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys spy thrillers, or who would like to try something a little bit different. This is definitely worth a read.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.

Fascinating book. Written as redacted transcripts of conversations between agent in training Cora Hughes (CH) and Dr. David Devlin (DD), head of Occupational Psychology for the service. Very intense following her training with a big twist at the ending.

I love the style in which this is written; it adds a whole new dimension to the concept. It's funny, witty, intriguing and I couldn't put it down. Only gripe is that it was too short. Would highly recommend for a good weekend away read!

Agent Carrie is one of the best. This book is a lot about her and you should get it to explain her other books. You really need to read this one first.
