After two years of clandestine operations, Agent Carrie Harris doesn’t know why she’s been attached to the Metropolitan Police. Could it be, as her superiors say, to hone her skills at breaking down doors and catching bad guys? Or is it to become accustomed to working as a team when she’s been so used to operating alone?
Putting her uncertainties behind her, Carrie leans into her new role, taking pleasure as part of a special task force targeting organised criminals, until during an early morning raid, her colleagues lay dead and dying around her.
After saving those still clinging to life, she can’t do as she’s told and sit around while others hunt down those who gave the order to murder her colleagues. Determined not to let their deaths be in vain, can she rally against those up high who want her to have nothing to do with the investigation? Can she make the right choices to bring justice for her friends when everything, even the people she should trust, seem to conspire against her?

GJ Stevens started writing fiction at the age of thirty. His fast-paced thrillers are the culmination of many years of finding time from nowhere to learn the craft.
His fiction is often referred to as a refreshing break from the norm, whether it’s his apocalyptic creations, spy-thrillers or his twist on everyday life with just one difference, there’s something for everyone who likes to be kept on the edge of their seat.
Whilst working to independently publish and make a success of his novels, Gareth lays bare his publishing journey through his blog (gjstevens.com), drawing together advice and knowledge from those already in the industry.
As a lover of the outdoors, every year he spends weekends out in the desolate countryside of the UK hiking and camping with his long-time friends which he uses as inspiration for both his creative fiction works and the subject of many a blog post.

Interesting story uncovering conspiracy. I still didn't understand where she came from by the end of the book. Maybe if I were British I would have understood the hints?
Capital Action is a 100 pages long novella narrating crime fiction. It is confusing whether it is a part of series or a stand-alone thriller as the blurb or description does not explicitly mention it.
The story starts with a range of characters. Within such a short story, loads of characters make it arduous to keep track of who is who?. After a point, I stopped trying to do it. Even if it is a part of the series, it is futile to have so many characters who will eventually die on the next page before establishing a connection with readers.
The first five chapters elaborate on every possible detail about an early morning raid by the police, which is the prime episode of this book. The brigade of characters introduced till now gets killed except for Agent Carrie. Agent Carrie Harris, known by her code name “red,” has begun her stint with Metropolitan police without being a cop. During her convalescing, she is convinced someone tipped them off and is an inside job. What made her think so is not explained. Then she embarks on a secret investigation to identify the mole and sequentially finds her like a doodle.
The book is a crime thriller with no sitting on the edge, no nail-biting twists and turns but a simple plain story. One cannot expect too much action in a novella, but it even lacks the basic spices of a thriller.
Undeniably, the plot is a good one with average execution. If the author had added some more conflicts, confrontations, suspects, and twists, the story would have done wonders.
I listened to the audiobook, It was given to me by the author as a teaser and prior to listening to this book. I had never listened to or read any of the books having to do with Agent Carrie Harris. As a character ,she seems very capable and smart and focused. I had some trouble following the story line , I couldn't tell what her roll in the book was ? And it wasn't until ch 19. that I realized she was a secret agent or an assassin;- But not a cop... I think the history of this book's main character relied on the reader knowing who Carrie Harris was and what she is capable of doing going into this book. Which is fine, I understood that this was a prequel so there would not be as much history. I was kind of confused by a lot of the characters in the the 1st couple chapters of the book, considering that they all died in about 5 pages of the 1st couple chapters of the book, but it set the tone for Carrie's motivation in this novella and made more sense the 2nd time I listened to the audiobook. **SPOILER ALERTS*** BELOW ***** Carrie is assigned to a police crew. When they go to kick in some doors and arrest that crew of bad guys, a claymore mine blows everyone in uniform to pieces except Carrie, who kills the rest of the bad guys and she starts to wonders... How did they have time to plant a claymore mine? How did they know we were coming? Who told them ? Would definitely read a longer novel of Agent Carrie Harris. I liked the story, it was descriptive and painted a good picture, the writing was solid and while the story was short. I enjoyed it.
This novella was entertaining from start to finish. It's a complete story that can be read as a standalone, or at any stage you're reading the agent Carrie Harris series. I think it's a great introduction to her story, although having read book one (Operation Dawn Wolf) I enjoyed seeing what Carrie is getting up to after finishing her training.
I love books (and films) where they show you a glimpse of the present day and set up the main character in an impossible situation. Then you're taken back in time to see how it all transpired. Stevens make great use of this and had me turning the pages to find out the who, what and why.
Capital Action is fast-paced and intriguing, with a twist or two along the way that has you wondering who is to blame for the messed up operation that cost so many lives. You can always rely on agent Harris to sniff out the baddie though, and deal some well deserved justice.
A great quick read, perfect for those who love spy thrillers.

‘Capital Action’ is a crime fiction novella, that serves as an adjunct to the Agent Carrie Harris series. It is a fast-paced story, with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep you wanting more, but without feeling overwhelmed. Having not read any of the other Agent Carrie Harris series, however, I did find it at times challenging to keep up with the number of characters featured throughout the brief 100 pages of storyline.
Overall though, I would recommend ‘Capital Action’ to anyone seeking a fast, action-packed crime fiction novella with an intelligent female lead.
G.J Stevens really finds his stride in this novella about his character Agent Carrie Harris. For a 100 page book, it has a ton of action and has a fast moving pace. I'm hoping the author keeps up with this style of writing for Agent Carrie. I listened to the audible version and couldn't stop until it was done. I have listened to Operation Dawn Wolf and Lessons Learned. You do not need to in order to read/listen to this novella. It is a complete story in itself, but it wouldn't hurt to read/listen to the first two as it tells you all about how Agent Carrie Harris came to be.
Agent Carrie Harris is undercover with the met police when a raid goes horribly wrong with almost all her team wiped out.
Whilst recovering she has a feeling this is an inside job and proceeds to investigate herself.
Although there is a lot of action I found the first few chapters confusing with all the characters. So many!
I did find there were some parts to the story that just ‘were’ and had no explanation. Perhaps it’s because it’s a novella and not a full length novel, the author has to pack more in a shorter space.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m hooked. Fast paced and full of twists and turns. An intriguing read that I couldn’t put down. Can’t wait to read the nest book.
Agent Carrie Harris is one kick-ass tough chick! My favourite sort of character. Smart, sassy and super tough. I loved this introduction to one very cool character. A quick read novella that's full of action from the get-go. Thoroughly enjoyed this read.
This is my first introduction to this author. Agent Carrie has her work cut out for her, although she’s not sure why she’s working here. From the start , you’re involved with the action. I can’t wait to read more by this talented writer.
After my 3rd attempt I have finally given up on this book. It reminds me of listening to white noise and I am retaining about as much as I would listening to Charlie Brown's teacher. It is so monotone on audio and the story uninteresting it is agonizing.
Another excellent exciting episode in Carey's life! Loved it! Great story, characters & ideas! Fast paced adventure, what a thrill to read! I do strongly recommend this & all of the series!
I really enjoyed Capital Action and although it was a shorter book can I just say that there is a lot packed into those pages. It is fast-paced and has lots of action. I do recommend this book.
