Written by his father, it combines a personal memoir, universal lessons, insights from religion and science, and perspectives from Haydn and his parents. The result is a work that ultimately inspires an awareness, an awakening, and a mindset toward living this precious life with purpose and clarity. Haydn was a remarkable young man whose dignified response to his own suffering provides essential wisdom and hopeful possibilities for your own life.

The philosopher is not influenced by praise or blame. He knows the truth and is not afraid, regardless of what happens to him in this world.

In December 2018, during a family vacation in Canada, Adam was asked what he would choose to be if he were not an architect. He replied without hesitation, “A hospice nurse.” Five years earlier, he had a profound experience accompanying his father through the final weeks of life before he died of cancer in Uganda. Adam could not have imagined then that nine months later he would begin to accompany his nineteen-year-old son, Haydn, through a battle with a rare brain cancer. Haydn graduated from this physical world in May 2020, one week before his twentieth birthday. Nineteen , Adam’s first book, shares the beautiful and poignant lessons learned on his family’s journey with Haydn.

"Nineteen: 19 insights learned from a 19-year-old with Cancer" is all about Haydn's journey of cancer and how courageously and positively he handled it.

The author describes the journey under 7 titles and whole of 17 chapters. He has compared the journey of Haydn with that of climbing a mountain. This is a tribute to the courageous and pure soul, Haydn by a mourning father.

In mid-July 2019, 19 year old, Haydn, son of Karyn & Adam was diagnosed with a rare tumor that was 4 centimeters in diameters beside the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. It was drop-to-knee moment for them. Parents were stunned, scared and disoriented but Haydn was heroic. Haydn's depth of character, his fortitude and a level of faith was profound, inspiring and heroic. He accepted the fate with grace and gratitude. Going through chemo and radiation therapy it was all difficult but he handled it gracefully with positivity and hope. But, on may 19, 2020 just a week before his 20th birthday, Haydn passed away in his bed at home.

When I read the title I thought it would be some sad stories from patient’s life, but this, this is something that surprised me.

Gone through a lot, Haydn was always full of hope, authenticity, acceptance and faith. The author fairly describes it along with fear, dreams, happiness and more. It’s a mix of memoir, universal lessons, philosophy, insights- both scientific, spiritual and perspectives of Haydn.

At the end of the book, I thought how a book about cancer and grief can be this much uplifting❓How is it possible to have this much positivity for a 19 year old soul❓

It’s powerful in its powerlessness, uplifting yet heart-wrenching, heart-breaking and thought-changing. Also, reflecting into the spiritual path and what it does to our lives.

The author has shared various anecdotes from Haydn's diary. How full of acceptance & gratitude he was!!

This is such an amazing book to read.
