The Darkness Within: Supernatural Suspense Thriller with Ghosts

Rate this book
Science and the supernatural unleash a new breed of terror…

Struggling to piece together his fractured memories, Vincent Donnelly and former Scion, Dezzy Walker travel to Arizona to seek a strange group known as the Sight Unseen. These mystics are connected to one of the spirits trapped within Vincent's psyche. And they may hold the key to retrieving his stolen past…

But instead of answers, they only find more questions. The Sight Unseen have disbanded, and their members have scattered. Following their tracks leads Vincent and Dezzy to the Abyss—a hi-tech facility hidden below the desert rocks and the brainchild of a scientist Vincent has already met in the past.

Trapped beneath the Earth, Vincent must find the last surviving member of the Sight Unseen. But the now-abandoned lab holds secrets of its own… and horrors beyond imagination. A dimensional portal has unleashed a horde of ravenous creatures, beings of pure evil that turn humans into monsters.

And unless Vincent can close the breach, all of reality will come crumbling down…

I adore this Series! Creative, wildly imaginative, suspense and tension ratcheted to the max, plus an incredible version of character evolution with a puzzled protagonist who gives new definition to the term "clueless." (It's definitely not a slang term for poor Vincent.) I'll definitely be rereading this Series in order just for the sheer delightful pleasure

This book is every bit the roller coaster ride of the first three. It also goes a long way toward answering some of the questions this series has created. We learn much more about Vincent Donnelly and the events that brought him to where he is. For most of the book, I thought this one might be the conclusion of the series. Happily, it isn't. I also finally managed to gain an understanding of the world the author is building. It's a scary place to be.
This series deviates from Scare Street's normal themes in that it dealers into the supernatural much more than the other series this publisher offers. It pretty much covers the whole enchilada.

Side trip to chaos

This was an extremely interesting read due to the complexity of the various concepts of the Afterlife and Chaos involved, but mainly because the more we find out about Vincent, the less we actually know. It is both a horrific episode, and a very mentally stimulating one.

Adding TK to the list of powers, learning about the nature of Chaos, a charmingly smartass new ally and as always rich description and skilled writing. Also some humor and food descriptions which I always appreciate. Eagerly diving into The Demon Boy next. I think it's going to be a fun one.

Vincent continues trying to figure out who he is, and why he can hear the dead in his head. As he works with someone, a supposed serial killer, he discovers a deeper part of the puzzle, and begins to grasp fragmented pieces of his life.

Great read! I am loving this series!

Again slow on the up tick but once you get going it's good. Vincent and Desi are really growing on me.
