Something was missing. The figure wandered over to the shattered window and peered through. The world outside was unrecognizable, even with his enhanced magical eyes. Yes, indeed, something was different about this place. The figure cracked the glass open a little more. The remaining glass split and fell noisily upon the dirt to remain silent at his feet. A mist began to unravel and form around his form. Its colors quickly overtook him and then he vanished. All that was left was a small object on the a flower. Matthew Thrushs novel prophesies a battle between good and evil in a spellbinding story of fable and fate. Matthew Thrush is a normal young man to normal eyes, but deep down there is something more than meets the eye. His passion for fantasy first started when he was young and in English classes. Over the years, Matthew Thrush has written and published many poems and short stories. He now decided it time to take his love for fantasy to the next level. He now lives in California where he spends most of his time reading, writing and learning Arabic. He is currently working on the sequel to his newly acclaimed novel Raifen.
One of my favorite lines of this book is something like, "The mist formed around his form." It's not word for word, but it's pretty close. I admit I did have fun reading this book, mostly because of some poor word choices and cliches. Raifen: The Search for Truth is the first self-published book I have ever purchased. I met the author in a wait list line at Sundance Film Festival in Park City. He was promoting his book out of his backpack. Matthew Thrush was a cool guy who wears his sunglasses at night, as I recall. He had a California chill vibe and a big smile, nice guy. I purchased the book since I had nothing to read at the time. It became obvious that the book is still in stage 1 of editing. I later gave the book to my younger brother as a joke gift. I appreciate that dedicated authors have the gumption to self-publish, but unless you are trying to be funny you may want to hire an editor. I give it three stars for the entertainment value.
This book was a captivating start to a series. Throughout it, I was enraptured by the descriptions and dialogue and was wondering what happened next. There were a few dialogue and grammar errors here and there, but I enjoyed the story and can't wait for more. Also, I met this author on Wattpad and he is a good story teller, imo.
