Rugged Dino Angelis, navy captain and special ops agent, has the family Sight. But even that couldn't have prepared him for his hungry reaction to Cat McGuire—toy-store owner, smuggling ring suspect…and his new charge.
Only, Dino can't believe the sexy woman under his protection is a crook. Not when she can plant a kiss hot enough to melt all his good intentions…
For Cat, Christmas is always a hectic season. But this year she's agreed to a fake engagement, too, just to keep the family peace. It wouldn't be so bad, if only Cat could keep her hands off her new fiancé. After all, he's strong, he's sexy…he's the perfect boy toy. Or he is—until Cat discovers she's just another one of his assignments….
Carolyn Fulgenzi was born on 28 July 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, USA, daughter of Janet (McLaughlin) and Andrew Fulgenzi. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and completed her undergraduate education at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She continued her studies attending Syracuse University receiving her Master’s in English Education. After retiring as a teacher with the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, she joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an adjunct professor in the writing department. Concurrently, she was also teaching at Onondaga Community College.
Carolyn blamed her tenth grade English teacher for nudging her into the writer's life. Sister Rose Terrence insisted that she enter a short story contest sponsored by the Detroit News, and Cara won! Of course, she was thrilled with the award -- a dictionary that still sits on her desk -- but at that time, her goal in life was to become an actress, and eventually, she attained that goal. She married Mr Hanlon, and had three sons: Kevin D., Brian A, and Brendan J. Hanlon. Only after her three sons were born that she turned her full attention to writing again. She sold her first Temptation to Harlequin in 1994, and that book, C.J.'s Defense as Carolyn Andrews, also sits on her desk -- right next to the dictionary. Since 2000, she wrote under the pseudonym of Cara Summers. She believed that her background in theater had influenced her writing, allowing her to create new characters and bring them to life for the reader. She passed away on 10 September 2013.
Nice short read, nothing spectacular. The romance between Cat and Dino was good, although a little too sudden. The suspense aspect was well thought out, but poorly executed. The dialogue in some parts seemed rather elementary. Worth giving it a read in your spare time.
In order to appease her new step-mum, Cat McGuire agrees to her father's plan to have navy captain and former special ops agent, Dino Angelis, pose as her fiancé over Christmas and New Year. With his rugged good looks and the chemistry the pair have, it certainly isn't a hardship. If only she didn't have so much going on at her toy shop.
What Cat doesn't know is that someone is using her toy shop as a front to smuggle drugs into the country and Dino has been sent to stop them. Now if only he could keep his mind on the job and his hands off Cat. But what will happen when Cat discovers that she's just another assignment?
With all the snow and the setting of a toy shop - this is the perfect book to read in the run up to Christmas. Dino is a rugged and sexy navy captain while Cat, despite her job, is a feisty and strong woman. Together they have good chemistry which makes their scenes together nicely sexy. My problem with the romance was that the whole book took place over 2 days and that didn't seem long enough for me to believe in the happily ever after.
There is a mystery/action element in the book with the plot of who is behind the drugs smuggling. The author did keep you guessing throughout the book but when it was revealed, it still didn't come as much of a surprise which made things a little anticlimactic.
In the end I debated between giving this book 3 and 4 stars but settled on 4 because, despite its flaws, it's still a readable, entertaining and enjoyable book.
This was okay. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t loathe it. I did loathe the name Dino. That was my biggest complaint. This story was published/written in 2008. How many men were named Dino at that time? It’s old timey to me and I almost put this book right into the donate pile because of it. It’s my opinion of course and I know others will feel differently. No problem. I pushed through to the end teeth gritted. Cat is the FMC. The story is set at Christmas time in Manhattan. Cat owns a toy store. Dino is Navy special ops and a few weeks from being discharged. Dino and members of his family have “psychic powers.” It’s a romantic suspense story.
My only other comment on this story was that seemed ripped right from a Nora Roberts plot. I can’t remember the name of the Roberts book I am thinking of, but darned if it isn’t the same structure. That kind of ruined it for me.
There is intercourse. Mildly spicy in my opinion. Condoms are mentioned and used.
I’m not sure I would seek out any more of this authors books.
I found I don't really care for listening to audiobooks. I'm not able to multitask enough. This was a free download from Audible quite some time ago, and I just got around to it. However, the story itself was cute, and I liked the hero a lot. The heroine avoided being TSTL, so that was a plus as well. I didn't care for the reader, which I imagine can make or break a book.
More like a 2.5 star book, but I will be generous and give it a 3 star rating--tale of a hot ex-military guy hired to pose as a girl's fiance in order to protect her since she is in danger (unbeknownst to her) from a Mexican drug ring who are sending their dope to the U.S. in shipments to her toy store.
i really liked this book. although there were a few parts where i was confused, the story is great. i rather liked the parts where Cat argues. Especially when it's with Dino. I think Cat and Dino are the perfect match, and one that, shall i say, nobody would have thought to create. Praise and everything for Cara Summers, but i have an imporant question. Where can i get my own Dino?
This was an OK holiday-themed category romance. It was obvious that there were a number of previous books featuring different characters in the book, and I kept feeling like I was missing out when they showed up.
