Faking It with the Billionaire Next Door

Rate this book
Billionaire. Next-door neighbor. Mortal enemy.

I knew it was a bad idea to get on the elevator.
Because now, I have three problems.
#1 I’m stuck in the elevator.
#2 I’m soaking wet from the rain.
#3 HE got in before the doors closed.

Miles Humphries.
My neighbor. The one I HATE.
Cocky. Tall. Infuriatingly hot. The biggest jerk I’ve ever met.
I live next to him on the 17th floor–
and he lives to annoy me.

Imagine my jaw drop when he asks me to be his fake fiancée.
And move in with him.
Together with my cat.
Complete insanity, right?
Wrong.
Because I agreed.

Did I say he’s torturously sexy? Sinfully tattooed?
Not that it matters.
I pay no attention to his stormy kiss. (It’s fake.)
I ignore his deliciously naughty rumblings in my ear. (Fake!)
I disregard the hundred tickly explosions in my belly. (Fake, kinda, sorta.)
I shut my eyes to the toe-curling nights. (Okay, not so fake, but you get the idea.)

But, there’s one thing I can’t ignore.
I’ve got a few weeks to get my act together,
And only one chance to keep my heart intact.

Faking It with the Billionaire Next Door is fun read. Really, I got a great time listening to the audiobook. Miss Day has a knack putting a boring, recycle plot into interesting story.

Her writing is excellent. Not a single moment I got bored with the story. The conversation and banter is also good. The characters have some chemistry. The sex scenes are not too graphic. But it is still hot, though.

Overall, a very good book.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW

Faking it with the Billionaire Next Door is an Enemies to Lovers/Fake Relationship Romance. It is an entertaining, sweet, sexy story. From the moment I began it I was completely captivated by Miles and Rose. Miles is ever the playboy. He is a sexy, cocky and arrogant. Rose is a sweet, low key girl who works hard and keeps to herself only spending her time with her best friend. At first appearance Rose and Miles could not be more opposite, but underneath they are both extremely drawn to the other and cannot help the verbal sparring and flirty banter. It gave me serious hate to love vibes and I couldn’t get enough of them! Being the playboy he is Miles needs to clean up his act and prove to his family he can be trusted in business and that he is settling down and putting his old ways behind him. So what could be better than a fake relationship with his neighbour next door? Rose for her own reasons agrees to his crazy plan and the fun times and shenanigans begins. The fake relationship trope is one of my favourites! You know it’s only a matter of time before they catch real feelings for the other and I enjoyed ever minute of them as they fumbled through the many stages of their relationship.

Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor narrate the story and I loved it. Jason was brilliant in his performance as a cocky billionaire and the those moments where he showcased the vulnerable emotional side to his voice got me every time! Samantha was fantastic as Rose! She has such a rich quality to her voice that makes her characters come to life so effortlessly.

Jolie Day does such a phenomenal job with her dynamic characters, engaging dialogue, hilarious banter and steamy AF scenes. If you like your romance reads with endless humor and heat this is the story to check out.

No Redemption for Promiscuous Men - DO NOT RECOMMEND

DNF @ 1%. Promiscuous men are on my Deal Breaker List. They’re not attractive nor wanted. No self respecting, intelligent woman is attracted to a man who doesn’t respect himself enough to care who he’s intimate with. No woman with any self worth wants used D. Putting forward a man like this as the lead is disrespectful and gross.

Miles and Rose will grab your heart and make you lose a little sleep because once you start reading this story you can't stop. Neighbors who can't stand each other become fake fiances and the chemistry explodes. A cute story that is well written with great characters. What more could you want. I read this free advance copy via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to write a review.

This was...ok. I found thr writing style to be very juvenile both with the internal monolog and character conversations. Most sentences were short and choppy and I had second hand embarrassment from some of the conversations. I know she was just a side character, but Juliette was super cringy. I liked the idea behind the book but it needs some serious updating.

This is the story of Miles and Rose, neighbors in an apartment building that act like they can't stand each other. Constantly "poking" at each other whenever their paths cross in the elevator. Miles is a playboy who has been given an ultimatum from his father - change his ways or lose his inheritance. Rose is a no-nonsense, hard-working professional, who, through no fault of her own, learns she is about to lose everything.
In steps fate - Miles suggests a mutually-beneficial relationship between the two of them where Rose will act like his girlfriend/fiancée in front of his family (so he can gain his inheritance) and, in turn, he will pay her a large sum of money to get back on her feet after she loses everything. Rose initially disagrees but once she realizes she needs this cash to get her out of her current situation, things start to get interesting.
As they spend more time together, they both begin to have feelings for each other - and they are both working very hard to fight/avoid this temptation.
It's a fun story that takes you through the ups and downs of their fake relationship and the struggles they both endure once they cross lines they both set and their relationship changes as well. Will they finally admit their feelings for each other or will once the time is up - are they over?
Highly recommend ...

I didn’t feel it

I thought I would enjoy Miles and Rose’s story so much more. Rose was okay and I could connect with her but I found Miles immature and arrogant and not in a charming way (can immature ever be charming ? I guess that’s a question for another day).

I like this trope and the plot was interesting. The banter had me smiling at times but I had a hard time buying it overall. I can’t exactly put my finger on it but apart from the fact I didn’t like Miles, something else was missing.

I’m still interested by Damon’s story so I might give that one a go.

What do you do when the most annoying man gives you a proposition you can't refuse after loosing everything. Make his time in the contract miserable until you fall in love. This was such a fun story. The banter between them hilarious, the love story Devine and a HEA worth waiting for. Love the characters and the mischievous kitty cat, but don't let me get stuck in the elevator under any circumstance.

Finally!! Finally a book which i loved like crazy.

I can't begin to explain all the reasons why i love this book. You will just have to read it to find it out.

I am glad that i came across this amazing book on someone's Goodread update and, 'fake-dating' and 'enemies-to-lovers' troupe, how can anyone resist these temptations?

I was hooked on to this book right from the start. Its funny, emotional and just amazing.

loved this series

Read this book series awhile ago, just writing my review. This was my first time reading books by the author, I loved the whole series. It’s funny, spicy. Loved the FMC in all the books as characters are interconnected even tho they are standalone. The MMC are swoon worthy. Loved!

Hilarious, Sweet and Hot af

New to Jolie Day, and a hit so I’m purchasing it.

*No Spoilers***
I swear at times I wanted to strangle both Rose and Miles (main characters). But eventually had to get to the end to find I still wanted to, but their outcome was a beautiful thing to read. In the end I give it 5 stars, even though there are a few spelling errors.

Faking It with the Billionaire Next door is a stand-alone, but, Oliver, Miles’ brother has a his own book and Damon gets his coming April 2022.

What a wonderful story to read. Rose and Miles are neighbours who can’t stand each other, but after an unusual proposal they see another side of each other.

I read the story in one night, I couldn’t wait to see how the story would end. It really is a great love story and I love the development of the charachters and that I got to read from both of their perspective.

On a side note, I love Daisy! Smart kitty that one.

What a cute story. This couple went from next-door-neighbor enemies to their HEA. Miles needed someone to pretend to be his fiance so he could show his parents he has gotten his act together and get his inheritance. He figures that he could ask his next door neighbor because she reminds him of his best friend. Miles and Rose end up having a lot of fun together and he lets her see who is really is under his womanizer exterior. My heart broke for Miles after he told Rose his story why he refuses to commit to someone after college, especially because he is such a good guy.

Miles comes from a very loving family with understanding and loving parents. Rose has lost her family, and is dealing with a lot because the IRS is taking all of her inheritance and her home because of the back taxes they think her father owes. She is homeless and is trying to figure out her next move when Miles gives her the proposal of being his fake fiance. Everything changes for both of them after that.

I loved these characters and getting to know everyone. I loved that Miles shows Rose his sensitive side and making sure she is ok when she is upset. I loved that their "special" place was an elevator. It was easy to see the changes in Miles almost from the beginning when he and Rose started their relationship, as fake as it may be in the beginning. However, with all their bickering and teasing even their family could see they were meant to be together from the beginning. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review from the author.

This is the story of Miles and Rose. Miles is your typical party guy – he is 26 years old and has put his father’s company in the newspapers on more than one occasion because of said partying. He does not believe in love (anymore) and refuses to grow up. Rose is quieter and more reserved. She chooses to work, work, work all the time and doesn’t really live her life. She like Miles comes from a wealthy upbringing. Miles and Rose are neighbors and CANNOT stand each other. The banter between them just screams that they want to tear each other’s clothes off and have at it.

When Miles is hit with an ultimatum and Rose gets some devastating news, it just makes sense for the two to be in a fake relationship. But what happens when Miles and Rose both get to know the “real” each other? There is passion, chemistry, banter, and understanding. What they both lacked is communication! Great, funny story with some great characters. I look forward to reading more from Jolie Day. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Faking It With The Billionaire Next Door is the perfect example of what a steamy enemies to lovers romance should all strive to be! This story (world) that Jolie Day created is so engaging from the very first chapter to the last. Be prepared to be very tired because you might loose some sleep because you are not going to want to press pause! I absolutely loved the characters Miles and Rose. Neighbors in a building on the 17th floor. They always seem to meet in the elevator together… Rose finds Miles a typical cocky, arrogant jerk, happy go lucky playboy, and unfortunately annoyingly sexy as hell too..Miles thinks Rose is uptight, boring, too quiet, a killjoy, and an Ice Queen. He loves nothing more than to tease her and aggravate her. But… he also finds himself becoming attracted to her. The revenge pranks these 2 neighbors played on each other was too funny.
Suddenly Miles dad gives him an ultimatum of changing his playboy ways and settle down or loose his job and his inheritance. He finds the perfect solution to his problem by asking his frenemy neighbor Rose to play his fake fiancé. At the same time, Rose is going through a huge life problem of her own, and agrees to this and move in with him. I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom, change into something they both were certainly not expecting. Oh my goodness, from the start their very sexy chemistry was off the charts! The banter between them so funny, sexy, effortless. Even if Miles was being a complete Ass, Rose couldn’t deny how her body was reacting to him, no matter what her mind was thinking. I loved that their relationship was not rushed through the story..the build up of the extreme sexual tension was so hot! They definitely needed to communicate better, and several times I just wanted to shake them both!
Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor did an amazing job narrating Miles and Rose.
Jason brought his signature growl 🐯 to make Miles the cocky, self assured playboy he was. But, I really enjoyed how deadpan Jason was making this such a fun and funny story. Places where it was not a written joke, he made the comedic timing with his snark or deadpan tone. His rumbles in this are pretty epic and extremely hot! He also did a great job showing the vulnerability in Miles. You could hear the pain, the hurt, the regret, the disappointment in his voice.
Samantha, oh Samantha! This is my favorite book she has done so far! She can really show all the range of personality and emotions of Rose. We get her being reserved, unsure, to confident, demanding.. too hurt, devastated. She had perfect comedic timing as well.
I really loved this narration paring!
This book is more than 5 stars! I’ve already listened to this twice. The depth of the characters are amazing, even the side characters. I loved Miles family in this, and hope we get a book about one of them!

Meh 🫤

Some books have IT, some don’t. This book is somewhere in between. Here’s a quick re-cap and my two cents.

Quick Re-Cap:

Miles is suppose to gain access to his trust account when he turns 27, but his Dad is tired of his partying ways. He decides the best way to prove he’s changed is to hire a fake girlfriend/fiancé. Who better than to hire than his uptight, boring, neighbor?

My Two Cents:

This book is a mixed bag. There are some good parts, some laugh out loud moments, and some moments that will bore you out of your mind.

At first, I hated Miles. He comes off as a jerk who never takes anything seriously. But over time, I came to mostly like him. He isn’t a guy I would date, but he doesn’t have to be 😉

On the other hand, I like Rose right away. I felt bad for her not having any family and really only having Juliette, work, and her cat. I immediately wanted all good things for her.

I didn’t really care for the continuous monologues of “this is only fake…or is it? Does he/she really like me?” I know there will be some of that, but the basis of a good relationship includes talking and these two had plenty of opportunity to talk to each other about these questions instead of thinking about it repeatedly and us having to read about it for multiple chapters. Plus, I prefer characters with more courage to say their feelings and put themselves out there.

There were some okay sex scenes. Nothing you’ll be wanting relief from, but they’re solid.

I won’t be looking for other books in this series or by this author. I really didn’t care for the whole book being written in third person. I kept expecting to have the book catch up to present, but it never did. Not even in the epilogues. Give this a shot if it sounds interesting or skip it. Happy reading y’all!

This is one of my favorite listens of 2022 so far, and already on my repeat listen list. Loved it!!! This enemies to lovers, fake relationship checks so many boxes and starts out with sparks flying as Rose and Miles spar and throw shade at each other. As neighbors and the only 2 people on their floor it is impossible to avoid one another. Miles is definitely a sexy man I'll be keeping around in my book boyfriend list... He is a playboy in the hot seat with an image problem and threatened inheritance. He is just the right amount of complexity with the brooding, seemingly carefree playboy masking the deeply charming & thoughtful man with a deep well of potential! Rose is that strong woman who is busy and driven, assumed by many to be boring. She is the girl next door who stays out of trouble and keeps to herself. When the circumstances change the forced proximity and requirements of carrying out a fake relationship to the rest of the world means they get to know each other. One of my favorite things about this book is how the depth of character for both of them is peeled back in layers with beautiful precision. They don't know what hit them before they are already lost to each other. Of course, it can't be easy. Throw in plenty of stubbornness, misunderstanding, assumptions, and miscommunication and you have beautiful chaos.

Brilliant performances by Jason Clarke and Samantha Brentmoor!! I am very narrator motivated, so I definitely picked this book because of Jason and Samantha. Jolie is also a favorite Author, so 1-clicking this was a no brainer for me. Loved everything about this book!

It took everything inside me to finish this book. I have to admit, the reason I pushed through was because of all the 4/5 star reviews. I kept asking myself, was I missing anything?? I guess this is a me thing because I struggled with this book. I got put off by the hero at the beginning because of how gross of a manwhore he was. I don't normally get turned off by players in books. I actually like the reformed manwhore trope. But the way he was talking about women and even the heroine was icky to me. Ironic that in the book, the heroine described another guy as gross while she found the hero's antics as charming. Except in the beginning, he was basically harassing her. She only changed her mind about him when she saw his cock's outline in the dark (??) and because the girl in the elevator told her he had a giant cock (??).

His treatment of her did kinda get better once they made the deal and he was actually sweet. But the dialogue and the way the story as a whole was written wasn't my cup of tea. It's hard to describe and I don't wanna sound rude. I read and went through some of the glowing reviews of this book again and again and I'm just gonna conclude that I, as part of the minority here, just did not feel this book.

I was gonna rate 2 stars but since I got to finish the book, I'll give it 3 stars.

Fake relationships are so much fun to me. I know that somewhere along the line they’re going to catch “real” feelings, and that’s the biggest part of why I enjoy them. The fun is in trying to guess what it’s going to take to get them to confess their hearts. Now, I thought Miles was really difficult to like at first. He comes across as a snarky, arrogant jerk, and that type just makes me want to smack them. But it doesn’t take too long before we get to know what that attitude is all about and at that point, he nearly broke my heart. I loved Rose right from the start. It was so easy for me to connect with her. It wasn’t until the end, when she started running scared, that I questioned how much I liked her character. On the surface, they look like total opposites, but they’re actually more alike than either one realizes. I thought they made a perfect couple (after Miles stopped behaving like a petulant schoolboy). Now that I’ve gotten to know their friends and family as well, I’m glad to know that there will be follow-up stories for at least one of them in the future.

OK. We’ve all read the fake fiancé tropes, but somehow, Jolie Day is able to pull a hat trick and make this story funny, sweet, and passionate. The revenge wars between Miles and Rose were entertainingly comical. Their verbal banter and critical comments to each other reflected the underlying attraction/hate Miles and Rose had for each other. There is a sad reason why Miles doesn’t want to trust another woman or fall in love. It gives the readers a chance to understand the reason for his callous, playboy actions in the beginning of the book.
Jolie doesn’t rush their developing relationship as many other authors do. She takes the time to establish a real connection as a basis for their love. Although the chemistry is undeniable, she places emotions over lust. The first time Miles and Rose have sex was so sensual and endearing.
The characters have depth, and the supporting characters are charming and interesting. The story climax is so heart wrenching and emotional, followed by a wonderful happy ending! I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

I love a good fake dating trope, especially with a Billionaire.

This booked started out a little rough, just like with Max Monroe books. Writing isn’t groundbreaking, too much vulgarity for no real reason, a little too juvenile. Way too much use if the word Bro. But I was hopeful it would get better as it does with the MM books.

There wasn’t really anything likable about Miles for the first 1/3. I like a good alpha but he was not it. I actually enjoyed the 2nd 1/3 of the book. This was where the two MCs “fell in love” but then the book went off the rails in the last 1/3 of the book. I would have stopped reading but I hate not finishing, if I’ve already committed so much time.

Where I didn’t like Miles in the first 1/3 I didn’t like Rose for the last 1/3. I don’t like the martyr trope. Walking away without telling each other feeling, assuming it’s for the best. Just so silly.

The writing also got much sloppier. I didn’t even bother with the epilogue.

**Advance Listener Copy Review**

Holy Elevator! WOW! WOW! WOW!

Jolie Day is a new to me author, so I did not know what to expect but oh boy did I enjoy this flirtatious, steamy enemies to lovers’ romantic comedy. Pure entertainment from start to finish, which has you swooning and laughing and sometimes getting very hot due to the level of steam as Samantha Brentmoor and Jason Clarke acted the heat out of this one. Incredible and high five to both. I have not listened much to Samantha´s voice yet but I am in love with her performance in this. Jason Clarke, every time I listen to one of his performances I am impressed a little more, not only does he have this growly voice and does an amazing imitation of a female voice, but he also has an animal voice in his repertoire too. The same goes for Samantha, I loved how Daisy, Mrs Muffinpatch was included in their performances.

It’s the story of Miles and Rose 2 neighbours who can’t stand each other. Miles is the ever-irritating billionaire next door who keeps riling Rose up every chance he gets, although he finds her beautiful, he thinks her prude and uptight. After Miles is trying to find a way out of a predicament he makes Rose an unusual offer, which she initially declines but soon finds herself in a less fortunate situation herself and out of necessity goes along with it. They soon bond over movies, bike rides and Rose´s cat, share past experiences and discover a different side to each other, one that has sparks flying.
I just loved this whole story, the passion, flirtatious chemistry, the swoon, the laughs, those elevator times, the character's vulnerabilities and overall, the taming of the playboy billionaire.

Thank you, Jolie Day, for the advance listen and I absolutely adore Miles, Rose & Miss “Daisy” Muffinpatch!

***AUDIOBOOK/ARC REVIEW***
My first Jolie Day rom com was a delight! I loved every minute of it! Jolie Day captures your heart with this cute, funny, slow burn, steamy, enemies to lovers, fake relationship romance. Miles Humphries was cocky, arrogant, charming billionaire playboy, who hid a sweet and vulnerable side. Rose Taylor, is the total opposite of Miles. She is reserved, uptight, and a ”prude”, according to Miles. They can’t stand each other! Making this a laugh out loud, delightful, passionate RomCom you want to keep reading. The chemistry between Miles and Rose was explosive! I loved the friendship they developed that turned to more while on their fake relationship to fool his family. I absolutely loved the cat, Daisy, she was the best part of the story and hearing Samantha & Jason say meow was the best!!
Jason Clarke & Samantha Brentmoor narrate this wonderful romcom. They brought the story to life and made you fall for Miles and Rose. Jason’s performance as Mile was great. He portrayed MIle’s cocky, teasing, playful side perfectly, while also showing us Miles’ soft, sweet and vulnerable side. Samantha has become one of my favorite female narrators. Her range of voices are truly spectacular and she was incredible as Rose. She had the whole uptight, ice queen attitude, but also did a great job showing Rose’s vulnerability and loving side.
Overall, this was a wonderful, delightful listen. From beginning to end, Miles and Rose had me enthralled. Jolie Day is a wonderful storyteller. Im so happy I gave this new to me author a listen and will definitely be adding her books to my TBR!
