Harry Potter enters his second year at Hogwarts surrounded by power, allies, enemies, secrets that whisper to him from the castle walls, and a past that won’t give him any peace.
Severus Snape prepares himself for another year of keeping the most chaotic student he has ever had the (mis)fortune of meeting alive.
2. Dumbledore is a biased fool who creates his own enemies.
That said, there are MANY similarities between this Harry and Voldermort. He threatens his friends often and casually. He doesn't form healthy emotional bonds with anyone. He killed Lockhart (who definitely deserved it) but then he forced Draco and Ron to swear unbreakable vows to not tell anyone. He is entitled, possesive and selfish. He forces his opinion on others and doesn't abide contradictions. He only feels 'alive' when he's in danger or about to die. He is frequently unstable and unpredictable. He would have actually left ginny for dead if he hadn't promised Ron. Then he collects favors for any help given. He views everything through a transactional lens. I think at some point, some of his gang will start to really fear him. Someone like Hermione (plus Theo obv) might start to oppose him and he might hurt them? 😬

Im just so entertained by this one. My absolute favorite thing was when snapes patronus changed. This book is so indulgent for every hurt/comfort need. Harry is a vile little kid with way too much power for all the trauma he has.
Obviously this isn’t perfect, but I’m having too much fun reading it.
It is such a fine line in recreating a semi-canon-compliant series with enough of a twist to make it your own. There is definitely a more "grey" Harry in this which I am fine with. I am really enjoying the tentative protectiveness and care growing in between Severus and Harry--finally a trustworthy adult who is truly trying to be there for Harry.
Excited to see where this story goes and how the friendships develop.
Second year is over, and what a ride it was. It stayed pretty close to canon, except in how Severus is a prominent figure in Harry’s life. Also Harry is a little shit and we all love him, but boy is he scaryyy. I’m off to read year 3.
Remember this by: Harry decorating Severus’ house with Black’s money because karma.
Better than the first book, less frustrating anyway. Harry is getting good at manipulating people, we love to see it. Heavy themes but, mostly, well handled.
