Omg this cookbook is a treasure trove of wonderful lunch recipes!
I recently started going into office every week and the idea of making a lunch every day seemed so daunting. I had checked out this book from the library to see if I could find any ideas and I was pleasantly surprised to find how many amazing and easy recipes there are that can be made for lunch!
The best parts of the cookbook are not just limited to the recipes collection. To me it goes above and beyond by 1) having pictures for every single recipe and 2) having notes on how to store your lunch when making it in advance. This is extremely important since most people going to work need some kind of prep work to get ready for their work week and the lunches won’t survive if not stored properly.
I am grateful to have come across this cookbook and I am going to buy a copy of it so I can utilize it every day.
I haven't used the recipes yet but plan to purchase this cookbook after checking it out from the library. The recipes are simple and most make two servings. Not just for lunch, this older couple could use these to make the lighter dinners we prefer. I like that side dishes are suggested. Many of the recipes are vegetarian or could be tweaked to be veg, which is also great, since we eat mostly vegetarian these days.
Don’t get me wrong these recipes seem easy to make however the ingredients that are needed in order to make them are ingredients that you wouldnt find in your home, more like ingredients you would have to make a special trip to town for and then make sure you have memorized the recipes in order to buy everything exactly as required for each individual recipe. I think I only liked two individual recipes because of how simple they were and I had the ingredients in my house already.
there are some really cute and tasty looking ideas in here, but also zero consideration for where someone lives and how they should substitute if they can't find the authentic estonian cheese recommended for a recipe, not much discussion on substitutions in general for dietary differences, and most of these meals are really low on protein, high in fruit and bread. this cookbook is definitely for someone, it's just not me.
5 stars for the inspirational photos. But overall this was a 2-3 star book because really, lunch doesn't have to be so complicated.
There were a lot of recipes for soups and bowls which required cooking - so unless it was leftover from supper it wouldn't be happening in my house.
In general this book is fun to look at for photos and maybe get a few ideas, as well the urge to buy nice bento boxes, but there aren't enough quick and easy ideas for busy families.
I’ve fallen in a lunch rut and the recipes in this cookbook are exactly what I need to inspire my brown bag sads. Lots of creative ideas and will definitely be purchasing a copy of my own for my cookbook collection.
Photos almost never match the recipe - there's almost always an accompanying salad or side to make it look more enticing and filling that's not part of the prep time or instructions.
