THE ORDER by Martin McGregor was a really cool dystopian-feel thriller with a neat twist! Powerful men within the media are making shady deals to amass more control and wealth. In the next scenes it is revealed that Athena Grant and Ryan Stiles, their children, have been abducted by “The Order” with simple ransom demands: they must confess all their unscrupulous deeds to the world. And that’s just the start. Will these extremist freedom fighters be able to remake the world by overturning the current political and media powerhouses and redistributing wealth to the underclasses? McGregor is a horror writer by trade, so this does get wonderfully chilling in places. There’s also just some really fun dystopian stuff. This went in some directions I definitely wasn’t expecting including a crazy twist at the end that I never saw coming and absolutely loved!

Never trust what you see.

Corruption in the highest offices. Kickbacks to contractors. Kidnapping for profit. Martin McGregor has included it all and more in this fast-paced action mystery. I loved it!!

As I read this riveting tale of nonstop thrills, mystery, and great storytelling. I’m brought to ask myself, “If this is a new genre for this author and he’s this good at telling a story with layer after layer of intrigue that keeps you hanging on page by page, then I must read his speciality. Which is his horror!” Am still reading this book, but Im throughly impressed and entertained by how well written the story is. I also appreciate the style in which it’s written, I gravitate toward those who challenge traditional format. And Martin McGregor adds a touch of his own that’s uniquely his in how he sets up and writes his chapters. His voice is one that’s got the feel of a Pub local whose a master storyteller. A man who walks in and buys one or two pints, gets going with weaving a story, and next thing. The whole bar has bought him drinks to keep him talking !! I can’t wait to finish this book, and dive into his Horror catalog. Well done Mr. McGregor.

The beginning of The Order informs the reader of imminent emergence of a "new world." Next comes a series of kidnapping in which relatives of rich, corrupt, & powerful men are targeted. Then these men are contacted by The Order, who announce responsibility for the kidnappings and threaten that the victims will be killed unless the men confess all of their misdeeds to the world. Will these men comply with the request to save the lives of their loved ones? This is an action-packed plot that will keep readers turning pages; I read it rather quickly. I would have appreciated more character development, as there was no clear MC to root for (or against, even). Nevertheless, this twisty story is certain to satisfy fans of the genre!

Well...damn! ....I expected a somewhat different book... and got just that!
The intrigue..the mystery and questions RIGHT up to the end literally had me picking it up almost every time I walked past it.
I freaking loved this book. I thought, I so to speak, I 'had it worked out'.. several times. Alas...as it turned out, I didn't.
If you want a nice read that keeps you wondering and personally sleuthing for the answer before the final chapters.... this is for you. 👍👍👍👍👍

I don't normally read outside of Horror. That is how I have become familiar with this Author and his work. Very impressed with this change up. It felt like a movie. A mix of James Bond and Mission impossible. The pace was fast and kept me interested. I read over a weekend and recommend to anyone who likes action and political fiction.
