Bridgewater is a sleepy little town on the outskirts of West Virginia. This is the story of a visitor from the U.K. who was supposed to be on his Honeymoon. Due to unforeseen circumstances he is traveling alone and meeting new friends along the way. His problems start when he loses his wallet. Although not exactly stranded, he finds fresh obstacles to overcome.
A British man is forgetting his fiance Annabelle and ends up in the States - a location which his fiance picked to come after marriage (which did not pan out actually). It starts with his mild amnesia and he is in bed, fighting a hangover and he knows that he has been with another woman, and he does not remember a single event about it. A (theft?), a coffee, a lawnmover job later, he finds Karen, the woman from the night that he does not remember.
Then he gets mixed up with a lot of dangerous characters, plenty of lies, deceit and money starts getting involved in it.
The story moves on to getting a heavy blow in his head, getting hospitalized and plenty of drama thrown in.
The plot was thoroughly enjoyable with plenty of twists and turns. The description and the narration was thoroughly enjoyable and I could not stop giggling while reading it.
Talk about a holiday (vacation) from hell; well, this is precisely what happens to the main character in Bridgewater. While visiting the US, the poor guy from the UK finds himself in one bad circumstance after another, all stemming from a lost wallet. Perhaps if he could stay away from the pretty women, he might not have these issues. From double-crosses to death to staring down the barrel of a gun more times than I can count, this guy experiences it all. I can promise you this if it was my vacation, I would have turned tail and ran. Enjoyable read.
This is a crazy tale of a guy from Liverpool who decides to go to America after a breakup. How traffic the breakup actually is becomes clear as the story unfolds. When he lands in America he soon finds himself in the small town of Bridgewater where all kinds of crazy shenanigans ensue when he gets involved with women, the mob and the police. The story reads like a journal and is well written.
It's hard to imagine that more misadventures could befall the main character. Although he seems mild mannered at first, he rises to the occasion time and time again. This would make a great action movie! Lots of suspense and intrigue. The book could use some minor editing, but it's a very worthwhile read.
The main character is British and ends up in a small town in West Virginia. He meets the whole town before it's over, and surprisingly, he does pretty well for himself. It's lively, entertaining, and funny - a good quick read.
A British guy, having been dumped by his fiancée, goes on a trip to the USA. He has barely set foot in the country before he gets into a heap of trouble, involving a woman who he suspects is up to no good in relation to a robbery and a missing sum of five million dollars. A lot of people are looking for this money and they think our unfortunate traveller might know where it it. What kept me from giving this brilliant novel five start was the need for some editing but, other than that, it is a gripping read with lots of drama and humour.
This is a well written book, and so captivating. I can't fault it i really enjoyed this one. Started with a bang and ended with one. And it is funny too, the most funniest one for me was when he said he knows guns from PlayStation. Unfortunately due to it written as first-person I forgot the protagonist's name. As most sentences start with I.
The storyline seemed pretty good but it was too up and down and created a draggy story. The character would have been better if he was involved in more real action instead of just looking for his list wallet and money. Also, the condom hanging on him when he woke up just was too much info and didn't make sense to the story. If the editing was improved it could have made a great story.

A lone travellor, escaping to gather his thoughts, lands in a small, lazy town where everyone knows everyone. He unwittingly becomes involved in an intricate web of lies and deceipt, involving some unsavoury characters that you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley and where hospital visits are on their menu of choice. As more and more secrets unfold, the lone limey becomes deeper and deeper involved, putting his life in serious jephody. Mr Wood has excelled with this great, creative plot that takes you on a journey from an innocent getaway break to a constant battle to keep yourself alive... and everything in between. Humour interspersed throughout the story brings light entertainment (chuckles as well as eye rolls) to an otherwise fast paced, captivating read. With several twists and turns to keep you in suspense, this talented author has once again produced a great read. My favourite yet!
The main star leaves his cheating fiancee and sets off to the states for a "holiday" aka a vacation. Man, he was better off staying in the UK with his cheating ex.
Trouble with the law. Multiple blows to the head. Hospitalized. And that's not even half the drama he's faced.
Interesting story. I haven’t really read a lot of mystery type stories. I didn’t think I’d like it but I got caught up in it and had to know how it ended. Hopefully it’s a series. It ends in a cliffhanger. The dude probably should have never left the UK. He finds all kinds of trouble in the US.
This is a story of a man who ends up in circumstance he did not plan or envisage. Despite this things deepen as the plot thickens. As a man from overseas, he takes time to get used to his new town and the difficulties that hit him. A victim of circumstance and an enjoyable read.
This book is a great small town f**kery vibe to it. This hapless fool gets stirred into a soup of danger, intrigue, zany backwoods adventure and more. Thoroughly entertaining. Good job
