A city ruled by Gods, a mortal champion, a misfit girl and a disobedient dragon…
Stolen from his home, Corthie Holdfast has arrived in the City of the Eternal Siege as a new Champion.
He must fight alongside the Blades, whose lives are dedicated to the defence of the City against the hordes of monstrous Greenhides; or die at the hands of the Gods who rule.
Maddie Jackdaw, a young Blade, faces her last chance. Thrown out of every unit defending the City, either she takes on a new role, or she will be sent to the Rats, a company of misfits given the perilous tasks beyond the Great Walls.
Her new role, if she takes it, will bring her face to face with her deepest fears, for beneath the walls, in a secret and hidden lair, lies a dragon, imprisoned and waiting…

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

The Mortal Blade is like meeting up with an old friend and noticing right away there are some changes. The changes aren’t bad, you just want to know all that’s happened right away. Christopher Mitchell continues to build The Magelands universe in a way that leaves us, readers, begging for more.
There’s just enough familiarity to make it seem we’ve never really left. I’m already eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. There’s magic, suspense, mystery, enjoyable characters, a compelling storyline, action and drama all wrapped up in these pages.
The Dragon Blade 5 Stars
The Dragon’s Blade is the second book in The Magelands Eternal Siege series. This is a true series, you need to read these books in order. The characters really are on a journey. Not only the story arc but also their own personal journeys, they are constantly evolving and developing.
If you’ve read Christopher Mitchell’s other books you’ll know just how great a storyteller he is. There are so many threads weaving a picture and you have no idea what the final tapestry will look like. I can’t wait to see where we go from here.
The Prince's Blade 5 Stars
The Prince's Blade is the third book in the Magelands Eternal Siege series. I would highly recommend reading this series in order just so you are familiar with the characters and the wonderful world that's been created. If you try to read this as a stand-alone you will still enjoy it but would be missing part of the experience.
The characters will be people you care about, they continue to grow and even make some choices you may not see coming. The story is quick-paced and has everything you're looking for in a good fantasy read. We have magic, dragons and adventure. There are mortals and Gods and the classic good vs. evil dynamic that is never as simple as you think it will be. Once you pick up this story you will become fully immersed, I wasn't able to put it down. I could really see this becoming a great fantasy series or even movie franchise.
This is a CrackerJack of a story! I stumbled across this, in an ad on Facebook and damn I'm glad 😊 I did! As the story unfolds you realize that it's actually following 4 different storylines, And that all of 'em take place in the God City. The first introduced is Aila and we learn right away that not only can she change her appearance with glamor but that she also a top tier assassin... the second is Corthie Holdfast a mortal and inducted into the Blade's to fight against the Greenhides an insectoid race and surprisingly Corthie has god-like Battle-vision and he can also see through glamor, next we learn about Maddie Jackdaw a somewhat argumentative young woman that is seriously just trying to hang on and join the Blade's but her chances keep slipping by. The forth and final POV is Daniel Aurelian a young officer joining the militia. All the stories are fascinating in their own right and seemingly independent of each other until they're not!! Ohhhh and did I mention that there are Dragons, only 2 but jeez how many do you need?!? I happened to really like Shaun Grindell narration so go ahead and grab this awesome book or better yet the boxed set...
Dragon's Blade
As far as most trilogies go this seemingly is following suit. Although I really know that it's actually gonna be a trilogy, however this does have all the earmarks of spanning the chasm between books 1 and 3. As there's a lot of darkness and rainfall before we can move on to the next book... and of course I need to take a break before I'm ready to start the next book, Prince's Blade.
Prince's Blade
As I suspected Christopher Mitchell pulls out all stops as he wrote this damn fine explosive conclusion, to this part of Magelands Eternal Seige! This maybe the last time we see Daniel and Emily Aurelian. But I definitely know we'll be seein' the rest of the characters in the future books that are yet to come...
The Mortal Blade (Magelands Eternal Siege, #1), my first read from author Christopher Mitchell. Fabulous read, an epic in the making. 483 pages of enjoyment, but reads longer due to the detail & development of the story. I look forward to reading more from this author.
The Dragon's Blade (Magelands Eternal Siege, #2), my third read from author Christopher Mitchell. The second book in the epic picks up seamlessly from where book 1 left off. All I can say is WOW! I look forward to reading more from this author, I look forward to the next book in the epic.
The Prince's Blade (Magelands Eternal Siege, #3), my fourth read from author Christopher Mitchell. The third book in the epic picks up seamlessly from where book two left off. All I can say is WOW! When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Honestly I started out very skeptical - in general, anything that has "mage" in the title is cheesy and not worth reading, and this one not only had that but also had a huge list of characters and explanations of places and dates right in the beginning which I've also found to be generally off-putting. However, I decided to ignore all that and give this a try and I'm so glad I did. The book skips between various characters and scenarios in the beginning to get each one of them started but each of them are interesting enough to make you want to keep going, and it is well worth keeping going. The character development, the world-building, the unpredictable twists and turns, everything keeps you turning the pages. I found myself remarking over and over again at the skill of this writer. Now I'm going to the next in the series - can't wait!
This set of books was a really fun introduction to this series. It took me a bit to get into the story due to the flipping back and forth for the character perspectives and the story jumping around to character, but once each arc went on long enough it started to make sense and then it was not as disruptive. I liked the characters, and the detailed universe. There was a lot of action, dragons, various powers, etc which made the books fun to read. I recommend this set of books.
I needed a bit of time to get my head around the star continent and the people's on it but once I was there I was sold. The story line is engaging. The fact that gender inequality is a total non-issue in most societies in the book is refreshing. And I can't imagine where Mitchell got the inspiration for the Kellachbrigdomin - genius. Especially Bridget and Kiera are a source of never ending entertainment. I'm nearing the end of the 15 book series and am nowhere near ready to move on. If you are into books by Jeff wheeler or James Maxwell, then you don't want to miss this.
Unlike many epic fantasies, I enjoyed most of the narrators in this trilogy. Book one is a bit of a set up for the big problem, but it introduces the characters well. Book two was an “Empire Strikes Back” sort of story, so I wasn’t a huge fan of it. The resolution in book three left me wanting a bit and a few of the solutions felt forced, but I had to stay up late to finish it, so that tells the real story.
It was a bit of a chore to start this series and your getting acquainted with all the character but once you get the start finished the rest of the series is excellent. It was nice once familiar with the world and who each character is. As you read you will love the good guys and despise the bad guys. It has pretty much everything your looking for if you like magic and warriors. Great series and looking forward to the next set.
I enjoyed this book as it has an interesting and novel, to me anyway, story line and I like the author's writing style. There were some issues for me with some of the resolutions of crises. Mostly that they seemed unrealistically 'neat' or didn't include at least mention of everything you would expect. However, this was a very nice change for me from the plethora of books full of gratuitous violence and killing of main characters without being necessary to the plot other than infusing chaos.
If you like battles, mystery, intrigue and gods vs mortals type fantasy this is your new favorite! Some of the fight scenes were a bit much for me, but the storyline was dripping with juicy intrigue and intense emotion! I loved every minute of it! It was wonderfully written with out being too graphic about love scenes! Its appropriate for later teens and young adults.
This trio of books was a joy to read. With Demi Gods, Dragons, power hungry God's and humans caught in the middle. Bloody battles and human perseverance wins the day with some help from the good God's and an angry Dragon. Give this trilogy a try you won't regret it.
Personal Preference Rating 4/5 🌶️ Audiobook (Audible) I may be in the minority, but I thought book one was a little boring. I thought there would be more action. Book two had the action I was looking for and was by far my favorite. Book 3 felt a little redundant by the end and was somewhat predictable but still satisfying.
Very enjoyable series. I loved the fantasy world of the setting and all the characters were great. Is especially like Maddie and the Queen dragon, the God-Queen was an awesome villain, evil and selfish as all hell.
What a great series the adventure and unusual story keeps you so interested you find it hard to put down. He is a brilliant story teller. Throughly enjoying the series can’t wait until books 4-6 comes out
Wonderful series and a great addition to the first Magelands series. I recommend this series to fantasy lovers. I also recommend to read the first Magellan’s series to get a better understanding of some of the characters.
This checks all the boxes - Compelling, deep characters Major and minor plots that depend on each other Rich world building The need to keep reading Getting lost in the reading
The amazing storyline and characters suck you in from the very beginning!! The world building allows you to easily picture everything with each individual storyline of the Villians and Heros!
From first page to last, enthralled in the story. I always pass over the maps and people score cards till halfway through. As by that time I know the ‘score’. Greatness
The amazing romance, plot twists, surprises, and just how the books didn’t end with a simple “Of course this is how it will end” Nice use of mages, Gods, demigods, and politics
While the story is good, the author tends to leave out descriptions of characters and a lot of set dressing which results in a rather blank world for an otherwise excellent tale.
Heroes are not born they are made with courage and determination to overcome adversity. Dragons are always wise. But finding out how they can all learn from each other makes a good book
Wow! This book series will stir your heart and boil your blood. Expect to be terrified, entranced, and a lot of other feelings that are too numerous to name.
I love this series. Looking forward to reading the next set. The book starts out as one of oppression and ends, well, I’ll let you find that out first yourself.
