Misconception

Hudson

I didn’t plan on kissing my best friend’s twin sister… or falling for her. But it happened all the same. It’s always been Riley, but after I finally get the chance to taste her lips, she ghosts me.

Not exactly the response I was hoping for. Getting out of town for a while, and giving her space, seemed like the best thing for us both. Until the night before my year overseas, and she ended up in my bed.

I thought leaving her was the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced, but returning home to find her with a newborn and knowing she’s moved on is a sucker punch to the gut. She can push me away all she wants, but the sexy single mom better get used to me being around, because I’m home to stay.

Riley

I’ve had a thing for Hudson Fleming for as long as I can remember. But I couldn’t get past his friendship with my sister. When I hear that he’s planning on leaving town, I know it’s now or never. Spending the night with him changes my life¾in more ways than one.

Now he’s halfway around the world, and I’m pregnant. Having this baby alone doesn’t scare me half as much as my feelings for Hudson.

When he returns to town, I’m torn between loving and hating him. How can I not since he gave me the greatest gift, then walked away from us both? And now he wants to be a family… like he didn’t break my heart into a million pieces.

They are in love with each other since childhood and neither one of them has the guts to say it, then they have sex right before he’s leaving for a year and after that she finds out she’s pregnant.

It’s very frustrating to read a book that it’s just about miscommunication. There is no story, no plot, there’s just two people who don’t talk to each other and pay for that later on. I hated.

Also, this book could have been at least half the pages. The author writes the same thing over and over, and it feels like I am reading the same paragraph in loop.

I’m always up for a new release from Kaylee Ryan. This was a sister’s best friend romance set in a small town.

This was more angsty than other books by this author that I’ve read. Besides that, I don’t like secret babies in my romances. I really wish that Riley would have handled the baby situation better than she did. I get her feelings were hurt, but she didn’t have to lie like that.

As usual, this author excels in small town romances. I couldn’t get enough of the aspect and the small town gossip.

I liked Riley and Hudson together. The mutual pining was a delight to read about along with Hudson coming back for Riley. The man was determined to make her his.

To keep this short, I enjoyed the characters but wished the baby situation was handled better.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I don't know why I had the sudden urge to read this book but it popped up as a recommendation and I just had to read it. Then I made the mistake of reading some of the reviews and I got a little apprehensive but it was already on my kindle and I was still keen. Kaylee Ryan hasn't disappointed yet. And I'm glad I ignored those reviews. Yes there was a miscommunication that caused the misconception but I completely understood it and it worked. And honestly I have little tolerance for stupid miscommunications but sometimes we all make stupid choices we know are wrong at the time to protect ourselves and we quickly regret them.

So I really recommend this if you're looking for a surprise baby, friends to lovers book because this book was awesome.

This is exactly why I read and adore this author. She's an expert at small town romances that are packed with all the heart, all the heat, all the complicated drama, and all of those pesky feels.

All the feels

From friends to lovers, then a lack of common both their parts nearly destroys what they have.

Riley has been in love with Hudson forever, but she’s never gone there. He’s her sisters best friend and a part of there huge group of friends. What she doesn’t realise is that Hudson has also been head over heels forever also.

But one night changes everything, and there will be consequences.

Misunderstandings, lies and soon catch up and Riley realises that she may lose it all.

No cheating, a safe read with a guaranteed happily ever after.

It’s a yes from me.

So very sweet and swoony! Kaylee Ryan stories are always like a breath of fresh air- fulfilling, calmingly low angst, and smile-inducting. Misconception is yet another tenderly sweet and effervescently dreamy love story from my go-to feel good author. A story that is just so adorably romantic.

If miscommunications and misunderstandings aren’t a trope you enjoy, tread lightly. Because this title does not lead you astray. Because misconceptions run rampant in this story, a true barrier to the earnest and charming Hudson and the adorable and gentle Riley. Both have pining and longing for one another’s romantic affections for many years, but neither has really had the courage to act on their feelings, in part because they share a connection and love with someone very important to them both, Riley’s twin sister Raven who also happens to be Hudson’s forever best friend. Not willing to rock the friend group or risk alienating one another, they’ve buried their feelings, neither away the other is pining too, but secretly hoping. But an unexpected kiss, a huge life change, and a bit of alcohol finally push them to give into their desires, only circumstance and misunderstandings derail the progress. Can these two charming creatures get on the same page?

So I’ll admit, long-term miscommunication isn’t something I usually enjoy in romance, but Kaylee Ryan somehow takes the most trite of tropes and deftly integrates her gentler take of romance in a way that brings empathy, compassion, and unbreakable love to make it still do dreamy. Will misconceptions certainly cause brash decisions and a pretty radical misalignment, ultimately these characters stay so true to one another. And ultimately incredibly honest. Their misgivings create misunderstandings, but it’s the catalyst that inspires them to break their passive cycle and put their hearts on the line. And really, they’re just so sweet. Kaylee always creates heroes that are dreamy gentlemen- sexy, endearing, protective, and patient. They’re the perfect nexus of alpha and compassion, the book boyfriends we all deserve. Hudson makes me swoon. And Riley is just a sweetheart. Tender hearted, a bit too much in her head, kind and loving. Their chemistry is charmingly easy- and I love how all in Hudson goes. I wish we’d gotten more time with them together, but alas, distance might not make the heart grow fonder, but it does make the heart more proactive. The longing is half the fun.

I do so hope we get to return to this world because Riley’s sister is a bit of a firecracker, and a hinted at secondary romance has me hungry for a bigger bite. Not to mention, I’m all about checking in with Hud and Riles to see how their HEA is panning out. All in all, yet another heartfelt and super dreamy Kaylee Ryan escape.

This one was very predictable. I did like the group of friends, how they all stepped up to support each other at different times. As soon as Hudson and Riley slept together I knew she would end up pregnant and that is what kept me reading. I wanted to know how each handled things. I thought Riley did a good job of protecting Hudson when she thought he didn't want her or the baby. I thought Hudson also did a good job of coming around to realizing that even if Riley dated someone else and had a baby by him, he didn't care, she was still his and the baby would be his. When each of them realized their "misconception" (clever way to tie in the title) it was good. It was better when each of them finally was able to read what the other wrote. I also liked seeing everyone's reactions when they found out the truth.

2 “we could’ve just avoided this whole thing” starts

This book was a misconception alright. So many things could’ve been avoided. By the title I knew there was going to be some miscommunication. Butttttt come on, it’s books like these where I question why authors make things so complicated but yet predictable. I mean I’m not an author but still. I wish the miscommunication and the misconceptions were less obvious. And these adults should probably learn how to speak up instead of avoidance. 2 stars because it was well written and the beginning wasn’t so boring.

I'll start this review by saying I don't remember the last time I ugly cried like I did with this book. This book brought out all the fears and longing one could feel with, what they think is unrequited love.

They both made some rash decisions that will change their lives forever. The time they spent apart wishing they were in each other's arms was quite hard to read. But when Hudson returns home ready for fight of his life, it was absolutely beautiful to see how things have finally began to move in the right direction that was always meant to be, with a HEA with Riley .

If there was ever a doubt if l love Kaylee Ryan and her style of writing this book has sealed that deal for sure. It had all the FRICKING feels one would want in a book and I'm super excited to see how the rest of group will fall in love.

I am not this writer’s target audience. Two misguided individuals pining out of what each considers is unrequited love.

Hudson has loved his best friend, Raven's twin sister, Riley from high school but has never quite built up the gumption to confess his feelings.

Influenced by alcohol one night, they kissed but Riley is later overwhelmed by feelings of regret. Hudson in his confused state decides to volunteer for green peace for a year and right before he leaves, they give in to their feelings with her sneaking out of his bed, leaving him baffled by her actions.

Miscommunication and misconception leads to a mindset not uncommon in teenagers. Letters go astray, and all their friends and family are misled into thinking the baby is fathered by someone Riley’s been involved with. These juvenile actions from twenty-three year old adults result in major misconceptions.

I found this book far too juvenile for my tastes. In 2022, is anyone still subscribing to these inane notions?

This book. It has the perfect mixture of sweet, heat, and swoon.

Riley has been crushing on her twin sisters best friend, Hudson, for years. Yet, she has never done anything about her feelings. Hudson has been crushing on Riley since they were 15. Yet, like Riley, he never told her how he truly feels. Until one night everything between them changes forever.

I love the chemistry between Riley and Hudson. I loved the friendship they had with each other, but loved seeing them shift from friends to something more. Their story is full of a lot of ups and downs and plenty of emotions, but it was all worth it in the end.

I hope this isn’t the last we see of these characters, because I not only fell in love with Riley and Hudson but their entire group of friends.

If you’re looking for a small town, friends to lovers, surprise baby romance this is one to check out.

Hudson, Riley and their whole friend group won me over pretty quickly. I swooned over Hudson, even though their were parts of angst, which was me just wanting him to get what he wanted. Riley and Raven had a great twin sister relationship. There were a few times I wanted to shake Riley to get her out of her own head, but super realistic with what was going on. The whole friend group in the book was my favorite and makes me look forward to seeing if others stories will be added to this one and become a series. Kaylee puts so much heart and feelings in her book and strong family relationships whether it’s truly family or friends that become your family. For me this was a quick read and an amazing Happily ever after. It’s a must read!!!

Yeah not sure 🤔

Well dunno where to start - I really hate the back and forth silliness and unnecessary misunderstandings but I guess that’s what the title implies? I dunno 🤷🏽‍♀️ mixed feelings.
Hudson I did like but Riley not so much.

2 stars for me I guess ⭐️⭐️

disappointing

Can we change the title to miscommunication, a whole lot of unnecessary BS because the two characters couldn’t get their acts together and have a basic conversation.

Misconception was a sweet contemporary romance about stepping up for what you want and making the most of your second chances. It was an apple pie romance that while it was filled with angst and drama you knew it would all work out with a happily ever after in the end and so it wasn’t angst of the gut-wrenching type. With its country town background and beautiful supportive twin-sister and friend group this rounded out the wholesome factor.

Misconception initially starts as an unrequited love story. Both main characters, Hudson and Riley, are in love with each other since teenagers but are hesitant to act on their feelings as Hudon is best-friends with Riley’s twin sister Raven. As the story progresses it leads to a friends-to-lovers, a surprise pregnancy and lots of miscommunication. Hudson and Riley are both wonderful characters but as a reader you can’t help be frustrated by some of their actions. There are a few sliding-doors moments in this book but then again that is real life too. The plot took us on a roundabout journey to happiness and I think the story really picked up from the point Hudson and Riley were reunited. Hudson in particular was a beautifully written character and his loyalty, determination and kindness helped make this book shine. This book is built upon miscommunication so if this is not a trope you enjoy I’d skip this book.

Misconception is a lovely second chance romance set in a small town. It is sweet, angsty, swoony and frustrating but most of all it was an enjoyable read.

This book was exactly what I needed and I devoured it in just a couple hours. I didn't want to put this book down once I started reading it, which happens every time I start a Kaylee Ryan book.

Hudson and Riley have a beautiful love story. Two people who have been in love with each other most of their lives but are too afraid to act on it in case it hurts their friendships and relationships finally take the leap to be together only to be confronted with several obstacles.

The way Hudson throws himself all in to being there for Hayes and Riley is swoony! These two are meant to be together and finally seeing them get to get together is so sweet!

I loved the way this group of friends jumped to take care of each other. This is the type of friend group we all want to belong to.

I hope we get the story about Raven and Clay next!

Riley has had a secret thing for Hudson for a very long time, but since he's best friends with her twin sister, she's never even attempted to act on it. Little does she know that Hudson has a secret thing for her as well, and while he hasn't done anything about it to this point, he's done with that so he makes his move. It doesn't go over well but then it's the night before he leaves for a year when they finally sexy time it up. She's gone the next morning because she's sure she knows what is going to happen, and doesn't even show up for the final goodbye. Hudson is hurt but there's nothing he can do about it but leave. However, when Riley gets those two lines, she knows things are about to get messy, and she ends up having to write to him about it all but he never writes back so she goes about it alone. The title of this book was 100% correct as these two really needed to sit down & talk things out. Like I wanted to pull my hair out like you wouldn't believe since I couldn't reach in my kindle to shake them both LOL! I LOVE Kaylee Ryan's writing style so much as she writes with heart & soul & the couple is relatable in their flaws. You don't want to pass up Misconception as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Misconception by Kaylee Ryan was emotional and a bit angsty small town romance with some misunderstandings and mishaps. Hudson and Riley have harbored feelings for each other that they kept hidden, until the night they couldn’t any longer. They valued relationships surrounding them and were worried about rocking that boat. But when there are long lasting consequences, can they find a way to each other? However, hasty, and impulsive decisions lead them astray. But when Hudson is back, he is ready to claim what is his. Hudson was caring and all in. Riley was sweet, but scared about how Hudson truly felt about her, which caused her to make certain decisions. Their journey was not an easy one, but their feelings were strong and they needed to find their way. I enjoyed reading this and am excited to see what comes next.

Happy reading!

This was such a cute read. Riley has always had a crush on her twin sister best friend Hudson. What she didn’t know was that Hudson gelt the same way. They were both so off and it was adorable and frustrating all wrapped in one. Then one night things changed between them. But it only made things more complicated because he had to leave. Misunderstandings kept them apart and it was heartbreaking to see how they both were suffering and regardless Hudson showed how much he loved her. When everything was finally cleared his love doubled. He was no longer holding back his feelings and so was Riley. Their friends were the best supportive group ever. I hope they all fine they’re HEA especially Riley’s sister.

Oh my what a spectacular book by Kaylee who is one of my favourite authors. This well written book had me hooked from the first page and wow! I couldn’t put this book down, so much so that I missed dinner as I just didn’t want to stop reading it. Hudson is so swoony and Riley was so delightful and together they are divine even with their misconception. Kaylee is one of my go to authors as I find she keeps delivering a five star read. I won an arc of this book but I had already pre ordered it. I wish I could give this book more than five stars and I hope that the rest of the gang get a story.

Get hit in the feels with the swoony Hudson Fleming!!

If you liked Unexpected Reality you will love Misconception. Only you won’t be unexpectedly bawling your eyes out, shouting why god, why?

Misconception is the perfect story if you're looking for something in that reading sweet spot, that will make you swoon and give you a few angsty tears to go with it.

Hudson is hands down one of the best guys out there. He is sexy, loyal and has the biggest heart, basically a total dreamboat! Gah! The way he loves with his whole being is so damn swoony. The way he used his journal was legit heartbreakingly beautiful.

I love Riley too. While she made some questionable decisions, I totally understand where she was coming from. These two MISS out on a lot of time because of MIScommunication, MISinformation, and obviously MISconceptions.

Hudson has been Riley’s twin sister's (Raven) best friend since they were kids. The glue between them. Riley has always crushed on Hudson, who in return had a teenage crush on Riley. Both of them always putting Ravens feelings first. They pushed their own feelings for each other aside. Until 1 night changed everything. But circumstances kept them from being together. Even time and space, couldn’t keep them apart.

When they both finally gave in to their feelings (and I don’t mean the first time) they were so cute. Their love was always there, it just wasn’t the right time.

I really loved this story. It’s sexy, angsty, a little frustrating, and oh so wonderful. I am a huge KR fan and always will be. I love her HEAs and the men in her stories just rule my heart. They are beyond swoon worthy. I can’t wait to meet the next one.

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion

“You make me feel everything, Hudson. There isn’t a part of me that’s not yours. There isn’t a part of my heart or my soul that doesn’t belong to you.”
💛
Review: Misconception by Kaylee Ryan.
💛
It was some time since I last read a book from Kaylee and when I’ve “heard” about this one, I knew I had to read and I don’t regret, not for one minute. One of my favorite tropes in romance is the surprise pregnancy/secret baby, it’s my weakness and I love it, when it’s well written and the author nailed this one.

Hudson and Riley has been secretly in love with each other since they first met in high school, but since he was Riley’s twin sister bff, they were afraid to rock the boat and spoil their friendship dynamics. But when Hudson decide to enlist and go overseas for a year, they both end up having a goodbye night together, which results in a pregnancy.

There’s a lot of angst and a broken-hearted couple, they had a serious issue of lack of communication, like a lot, which caused they misconception, of course. But through their letters, thoughts and actions were so clear to everyone they adore each other. Hudson was loyal to a fault, I loved his reaction when he returned home. His heart was so big, he truly deserved everything good, such as Riley.

Of course I’d loved for them to be more confident in their feelings, but if so there wouldn’t be a story. I really enjoyed their group of friends, they all rallied behind them spectacularly and I hope we’ve got to see more stories from this group.
