3.75 stars- SHANE : HIS TO POSSESS is the first instalment in Josephine Jade’s contemporary adult HIS FOREVER dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Irish Mafia captain Shane O’Mara, and waitress/Bratva princess Mia Kasilli’s story line.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Shane and Mia) SHANE: HIS TO POSSESS follows in the aftermath of the abduction and imprisonment of Bratva princess Mia Kasilli. Mia was never a part of her father’s life, in fact, our heroine has been on her own for a couple of years but believing her estranged father had sent men at his request, Mia found herself a prisoner of Irish Mafia Captain Shane O’Mara. As payment for a debt, Mia’s freedom was relinquished by her father, a freedom she would never again regain but Mia’s abduction has started a war between the Russians and the Irish, and our heroine is the ultimate prize and target in a game of ownership and possession. What ensues is the building relationship between Mia and Shane, and the fall-out as Mia has already been claimed by someone else, a claim that is about to break our story line couple.
Mia Kasilli’s backstory is horrific and heart breaking, and our heroine isn’t willing to give in or give up without a determined fight. Refusing to accept Shane as her immediate future, Mia will fight to the death in an effort to free herself from a lifetime of slavery but our heroine had no idea her life had been forfeited as payment for a debt, a debt her father owed to the Irish mob. Shane O’Mara knew ‘taking’ Mia Kasilli would not only anger the Russian Bratva but the man to whom he owes his life. On his own, Shane struggles to control the woman with whom he is falling in love but a woman who is willing to run to save the life of her Irish captor.
The relationship between Mia and Shane is an enemies to lovers, captor and prisoner Mafia romance in which Mia is nothing but fodder in a much larger game of power and control. Women are nothing but possessions and property, to be used and abused at the whim of the men in their families and lives, but our heroine wants nothing to do with the life of a mobster, and asks a favor if they both survive. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense, and not without some issues of questionable consent.
The colorful and gritty secondary and supporting characters include Shane’s sister Siobhan, head of the Murphy family Patrick Murphy, third in command Cormac, Russian kingpin Vadim Vasilli, and Mia’s step brother Aldo Perett. Patrick’s story line is next.
SHANE: HIS TO POSSESS is a dark, gritty, raw and disturbing story of power and control, betrayal and revenge, abuse, hatred, violence and love. The characters are combative, determined and defiant; the romance is dramatic and impassioned. Although the reader is immediately pulled head first into the action, the story doesn’t grow any proverbial teeth until a little half way.
I mean I know we were warned. But again, this was not dub con. This was straight out rape for Mia with her first experience being with her horrible step Brother abusing her constantly and sodomising her and violating her as a minor throughout her teen years.
Then Shane comes along years later and decides she’s his. Ok. But not only does he take her without consent. He kidnaps her not realizing she kept a part of herself a Virgin in the last way she could and he flat out beats her and rapes her because she doesn’t capitulate.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’m still shocked. I wanted to maybe give it another try because I like some dark romances. However, this just sickened and disgusted me. But hey! If you like sick twisted stories with a sociopath who convinces himself that he can convince the beaten heroine into loving him, then I guess this is the story for you.
I mean a part of me feels that Stockholm syndrome influenced Mia’s desire to want to be with him towards the end because she had to choose between the better evil. But she admits that they are both sick bastards to be with. There is nothing realistic or healthy about this type of behavior and a person like Shane doesn’t just become a good guy because he decides he thinks he’s in love with someone for the first time. That just doesn’t happen and if you think the mafia just lets you leave the life to have a cookie-cutter lifestyle of your own just because you “ask for a favor,” then you really are very delusional. Sorry for the bad review. But the way I look at it, I normally don’t like to leave reviews if I’m not interested in the book at all. But I thought that this story had a lot of potential until I was blindsided by the ongoing violence and vile behavior of the characters. I really wanted to like Shane.🤷🏻♀️

If you like steam, dark romances that has a lot of dark to it…then this is it. Shane is the Captain in the Irish mafia and he always gets what he wants and he wants Mia. She’s the daughter to a rival mafia leader and off limits, until Shane devises a plan to get her. Mia wants nothing to do with any mafia men and walked away from her father and evil stepbrother as soon as she turned 18. Now she leads her own life, waitressing and cutting off all ties to her family. When Shane kidnaps her, she fights and fights him which only turns Shane on and in the depths of her mind, turns her on as well. But her past and abuse that she grew up with has her warring with herself and tries to fight the attraction to Shane….when it comes down to it, will she stay or leave Shane behind. Oh boy, this is dark with triggers for some involving abuse. I was wary of Shane in the beginning, he seemed to lack compassion but as the story unfolds, his vulnerabilities are shown and get to see a side of him with Mia that is still dangerous, less of a monster and tender. The story flowed nicely with plenty of steam and most of it on the dark side, there’s suspense, some disturbing scenes, great characters that I couldn’t put it down and the epilogue makes it all worth it. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Mia, a waitress, frequently sees Shane, an Irish mob captain, at the restaurant where she works and does her best to avoid him if she can. As the story progresses a message is dismissed, a change of fortune occurs, and leaning into the new circumstances may have unintended consequences. Josephine Jade created a dark and twisted mafia romance read in Shane: His to Possess. This book starts off with action right from the start and continues as a steady pace with shots of adrenaline here and there. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Definitely lots of mixed feelings about this. This contains a lot of dubious consent and references to sexual assault and sexual abuse so please make sure you are aware of that before reading. Shane really confused me. Mia’s character was slightly better. The first 50% of this book is was he kidnapped her and she hated him and he basically forced her into stuff. The book definitely got better as you went along and by the end I was genuinely happy for them. I just didn’t love the journey to get to the ending.
This is a book that I think would GREATLY benefit from having twigger warnings included. Within the first chapter, there is a graphic scene of rape and I wasn't in any way prepared for it. Not only that but there were also mentions of child abuse and molestation that was the main focus of the book. The book is extremely dark and the relationship between the main character is very toxic. Now that is not to say that the book itself is bad the characters are well written and develop.
Rape does not lead to a normal relationship. Raped as a child, kidnapped, raped again by another man, get away, beaten by a third sadistic man, kidnapped again by first rapist, raped again, finally kill first rapist, marry second rapist... crappy story
