So i saw this book on one of my Goodreads friends account and figured since it's free on kindle why not give it a read. The story is pretty simple...one night stand possible turns into something more. Harper, a real estate queen, has swore off relationships. Kate, hippie photographer, wants a relationship. The two meet at Jess's (Kate's friend/Harper's assistant) birthday party. Not a new plot but always a good one. Now the story takes place over a year which is nice that given the name, it is a slow falling between the MC. I felt though that story was bare bones...almost outlined. The beginning started off well...we feel the chemistry and the table is set. Then when time stats moving we lose that connection a bit...lose a bit of the drama that was easily set up. For instance the posting of Kate's video of Harper without her permission...Harper revealing her live on the streets...Taylor coming back. Also, wish we could see more of the relationship type Kate claims to be...she never got in one or dated in that year outside of Harper. I think I'm rambling but new author's ask opinions and if they do read it, hopefully it helps. Regardless of all that, I did enjoy the book enough and I will read future works. Not a bad read especially if you're inbetween books or short on your kindle fund.
Katie and Harper meet at a birthday meeting and had a fling. Harper is Katie's best friend and roommate boss and she doesn't do relationships anymore after a bad breakup. Katie is a hipster tattooed photographer and doesn't believe on one night stands until she met Harper. It's a very good story I'm sure you'll enjoy. I recommend by it.
Great characters and storyline. I was hooked from the very first page. This was my first book I read from this author but I will be reading more of her work in the near future.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the story between Kate and Harper. They are relatable characters and you instantly want to root for them to get together. The story flowed really well and I would recommend to anyone for a relaxing afternoon
You know I was thinking as I read this, uhm nope that's not right. No that's a contrived road block. Stick with it. But I'm not really feeling the characters. You're *telling* me the MC's have this crazy chemistry but... Then it was contrived this and contrived that. Then I hit the 86% point and I'm like no. So much no. Good lord I'm on a freaking streak lately.
Two ladies one a former homeless person and one with a passion of helping the homeless. The two ladies give support and have a little jealous thrown in to savior the feelings they have each other. Enjoy.
I can't believe this was Conway's debut novel - it is really quite good. I loved Harper and Kate as characters, but also really liked the way Conway built the relationship in this novel.
I really loved the story. Enjoyable characters. I hope there will be a follow up and maybe you could explore Harpers back story about becoming homeless. Thanks for this and please keep writing you are really good.
This popped up as a recommended read for me and it was a free read with my kindle. The story and writing style are relatively straight forward. The story is reliable but it feels like it moves in a straight line without much color. It takes place over a year but it could have taken place over a a month and would have read and felt the same. I will say for a debut; it was good in the sense that it flowed well. I’m interested to see how this writer evolves with her future work.
I’m not sure about the rating I’m giving this book. I liked the premise, the early interactions between the characters, and most of the plot BUT the last part was rushed and the book just kind of felt incomplete. It’s a 3.5 without a doubt and I’m not giving it 3 star’s because I enjoyed it, I’m just disappointed about the incompleteness and rushed feeling of the second part of the book.
Very good book. Great start for a first novel. Kate and Harper meet at a friends birthday party and leave to hook up. And this shows the journey of them growing and beconing who they want to be.
But I think the story was a bit too predictable. I enjoy reading scenes with lesbian sex, but I think Ms. Conway relied to much on the sex scenes in lieu of developing the story more fully.
Also, Ms. Conway is in dire need of a good editor. There are glaring typos and grammatical errors that a proofreader or editor could have easily corrected.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Its pacing and storyline was okay but I found some parts a little weird. Why is the trust between Kate and Harper so inconsistent? How can Kate feel so upset by Harper's ex turning up and so quickly accept and belief Harper? It was difficult to see if there was a bond between the two at times. Overall, I liked the flow of the story but it could've been better.
An enjoyable, quick-read that's straight to the point with good characters. The rich, successful woman meets the not-so-rich woman is a bit of a familiar plot though. While I'm not a big reader, I can still think of a few books like it - including Chasing Love by Carol Wyatt which is so similar.
I loved this story. The passion between Kate and Harper was felt from their first night together. Once they got to know each other working together built up the sexual tension and the chemistry. Once again Laura Conway achieves in getting us to believe in this couple and humanity issues.
As soon as one of the MCs posted a video of the other without her consent I was done with this one. Also, who does that knowing it’s your friend boss? And nothing spectacular about the story to get me to overlook these major character flaws and keep going. I liked Winter Nights, which is why I decided to try this one, but nope... this one was not for me.
For a book called "Falling Slowly" the pace was incredibly fast. The author sacrificed things like plot, conflict, and character development and skipped ahead to the sex scenes. To me the whole thing fell flat. Hopefully, the author learned to slow down and actually tell a story in her other works.
I was looking for a light bit of nonsense to fill some time. There are some issues with stilted dialogue, a couple of repeated phrases and some typo's. However, as a bit of a snickers bar in amongst the good, healthy worthy books of late it does its job.
It’s not an complicated love story but the main characters are polar opposite of each other which make the story interesting. This is Laura Conway first book and it is a decent read. I enjoyed it and perhaps you will too.
3 stars. I can tell this was Conway's debut novel because the writing wasn't that great and it needed to be edited. The romance was fine but the characters were kinda boring. Not awful or anything but definitely nothing memorable.
Good first book from Laura Conway. The book could have been better proofread. The conclusion seemed at little rushed as well. Keep working on your craft.
