I'm actually reading the second volume, but it didn't have a pictures, and I've read this one, so yeah.

Nobuko Yoshiya is one of my favorite Japanese authors, even though she kills me with the early 20th century (aka 1918) Japanese. The Hanamonogatari (Flower Tales) books are her shorts stories, usually involving what used to be known as Class S (romantic friendship) which will be familiar to readers of Maria-sama ga Miteieru.

The other day it hit me why I love these stories so much. They are very much - in tone and theme - the Japanese equivalent of L.M Montgomery's short stories: pretty (usually orphaned) girl sacrifices herself and wins happiness through her kindness.

傳說中的百合始祖
讀起來果然不同凡響
後世子孫比較像祖師的
應該是那些好像是女同又不是女同的百合作品吧
花物語對人物的描寫就像工筆畫一樣
光看文字就能想像出種種不同的絕世美人
而描述女子間的情誼，意境悠遠
讀起來真的個個都是仙女一般

前半部多半結束在A對B深深的孺慕之情
讀起來有淡淡愁悵卻又有溫暖的感覺
但後半部都是悲戀淒慘的結局
雖然風格一樣很唯美
讀完心頭鬱結成一團很不舒服

除了人物描述之外
也有濃濃的時代風情
雖然書中都不標年代
但也看得出大正風味
對台灣讀者來說
更有趣的是可以看到日本時人
對台灣風土的看法

至於啟發後世各種作品
在我看來，讀過的所有百合作品
沒有一個能比得上花物語
連導讀提到的瑪麗亞的凝望
我覺得也遠不及此
商業漫畫家，果然還是無法跟大文學家相比呵
倒是明日同學的水手服
頗有花物語中學校和女學生交往的風情
明日同學少了花物語的悲情，多了青春洋溢
感覺頗抓到祖師神韻

至於當今另一種輕百合流派
一群女生聚在一起吃喝玩樂
這種的應該就不能認花物語當祖師奶奶了吧~
