Una cu viața

Rate this book

- Deepak Chopra

Eckhart Tolle is a German-born spiritual teacher and internationally bestselling author whose work has profoundly influenced the contemporary spiritual landscape. Born Ulrich Leonard Tölle in 1948 in Lünen, Germany, he experienced a transformative spiritual awakening at the age of 29 after years of depression and anxiety. This profound shift in consciousness marked the beginning of his journey as a spiritual guide and thinker. Tolle abandoned his doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge to explore and embody the stillness and presence he had discovered, eventually becoming a spiritual teacher based in London and later in Vancouver, Canada.
Tolle rose to prominence with the publication of The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment in 1997. The book, which emphasizes mindfulness and present-moment awareness, resonated with a global audience and was later championed by Oprah Winfrey, catapulting it to international bestseller status. In 2005, Tolle released A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, which expanded on his earlier teachings and explored the role of ego in personal and societal dysfunction. The book also achieved massive commercial success, further solidifying Tolle’s reputation as one of the most influential spiritual authors of his time.
His teachings draw from a variety of traditions, including Zen Buddhism, Christian mysticism, Sufism, and Hindu philosophy, though he remains unaffiliated with any formal religion. Tolle emphasizes a non-dualistic approach to spirituality, focusing on the importance of presence, inner stillness, and the disidentification from ego-based thinking. His accessible language and calm demeanor have helped millions integrate spiritual practice into daily life.
In addition to writing, Tolle has delivered talks, retreats, and webinars to audiences around the world. In 2008, he partnered with Oprah Winfrey to produce a groundbreaking webinar series based on A New Earth, attracting millions of viewers. He also co-authored the illustrated book Guardians of Being in 2009, further exploring his core themes through the lens of animals and nature.
Tolle currently lives in Vancouver with his partner, spiritual teacher Kim Eng. Together, they continue to teach and support global audiences through online content, publications, and events. Widely regarded as one of the most spiritually influential figures of the 21st century, Tolle’s message of inner peace and awakening remains as timely as ever.

Eckhart Tolle is a master. "The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral, which always is as it is. There is the situation or the fact, and here are my thoughts about it. Instead of making up stories, stay with the facts. For example, "I am ruined" is a story. It limits you and prevents you from taking effective action. "I have 50 cents left in my bank account" is a fact. Facing facts is always empowering."

Eckhart Tolle, publishing phenomenon, celebrity favourite and the most popular spiritual author in the United States, releases this, his eighth book which is essentially a collection of some of the most helpful passages from his 2005 bestseller A New Earth. This is the type of book that you return to when you need something to inspire, uplift and centre yourself. What I particularly enjoyed was that the quotes and passages are all so deep and much lengthier than those from other similar books.

Oneness With All Life is an ideal gift for those who need a little motivation and let's face it, we all do every once in a while. It does a sterling job at providing some real perspective and food for thought but never comes across as preachy.

Many thanks to Michael Joseph for an ARC.

Inspirational

I consider myself an atheist but I can absolutely relate to everything Tolle says in this book. I have also read his book A New Earth. I needed a refresher. A genius writer, honest, straightforward and from the heart. I will read this again and again when I need reminding that there is a way for all of us to evolve into being better human beings. Thank you Elkhart Tolle.

A truly transforming and awakening book. Eckhart Tolle found the perfect balance between challenging your mind on a spiritual level and giving you practical ideas over 10 short chapters on how to understand life and purpose such as who you are, how to find your inner space, to become present and conscious and he finishes on ‘Oneness with all life’ that connects his previous 9 chapters in a peaceful and profound way. This is a book to keep and re-read when you need to find your inner space and to be reminded of being present and conscious. Wonderful book with magnificent illustrations.

I bought this book because I really enjoyed Elkhart Tolle's book A New Earth. I read that a number of years ago when it was so popular. It was a hard read in some chapters. I had to keep rereading over and over to get what he was saying. That being said, I enjoyed his book so much I read it again and then took a 10 week class to study it more deeply with the chapters I struggled with. The group was lead by a psychologist in a small group of about ten women. We were going to do a little on each chapter, however, we kept getting stuck on one "ThePainBody", in Chapter 5. I learned so much about myself. Sharing with a group helps because we all have different ways of interpreting and understanding the way in which his message was written. This book "Oneness with all life was a series of passages from the original book. What I liked was he picked the ones that had so much meaning to our lives, short little chapters, easy to read. The beautiful ways he had at expressing words, so meaningful, was a gift to me. I still at times Pick a chapter to read and reflect on.

Eckhart Tolle is one of those authors that I simply resonate with. I enjoyed this practical guide for his previous book 'A New Earth'. Appealingly aesthetic and artfully done.

Some have mentioned his books all contain the same message, but I seem to gain new insights in each.

A continuation of healing and understanding from Eckhart Tolle for those who have read "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth". He gives some of his most powerful quotes on each page that can be read and re-read to emphasize the powerful messages he spoke of in his series of books.

Spot on easy read. However, not even close to the master Nisargadatta Maharaj, I would spend more time on that or the actual “A New Earth”

Great book. With these books you want to read slow and let the wisdom sink in. I borrowed this from the library and will definitely add it to my own library.

2.5 stars probably. It was quite nice but i am an atheist and God isn’t my thing so it made my reading boring somehow. I loved a lot of things but also hated a lot of things. The book just didn’t want to end and it is not even long. I think I am not enough “developed” to fully understand the book so I will probably return to it in a few years.

This is one of those books that you read and benefit from right away. Every time I picked it up and read a section, I could immediately apply it to my life. This is a must read if you are wanting to find deeper meaning. I honestly don’t know what else to say. I am so thankful for this book. It’s not something you only read once. I will keep this by my bedside and read parts of it everyday and continue to learn and grow with the help of this treasure. Wow. Thank you Eckhart Tolle 💛💛💛

An excellent book for tasting bits, day by day. I did it seaside. Couldn't get a better calm spirit than with the combination of his lovely words and the slow sound of the waves in the Caribbean. Vancouver is the richer for his presence.

I borrow all the books I read from the library, and then buy a very few of those. I'll be buying this one so I can continue reading the meditations everyday.

A book meant to be savoured slowly.

Despite the author’s encouragement to read the book that was distilled into this one,I found myself understanding it very well, although I had read others of its kind.I wouldn’t recommend it for a beginner.

For me,the texts inside this book felt less like something new and more like something I was remembering. They gave me a deep comfort and helped me center my mind when it was going hectic.

I will definitely be keeping it for my library.

Favourite quotes:

“When we perceive without interpreting or mental labelling, which means without adding thought to our perceptions, we can still sense the deeper connectedness underneath our perception of seemingly separate things.”

“Attachment to things drops away by itself when you no longer seek to find yourself in them...Sometimes you may not know that you are attached to something, which is to say, identified, until you lose it or there is the threat of loss...If you are aware that you are identified with a thing, the identification is no longer total.”

“The collective disease of humanity is that people are so engrossed in what happens,so hypnotised by the world of fluctuating forms,so absorbed in the content of their lives, they have forgotten the essence, that which is beyond content, beyond form, beyond thought. They are so consumed by time that they have forgotten eternity, which is their origin, their home, their destiny.Eternity is the living reality of who you are.”

“What is the relationship between awareness and thinking?Awareness is the space in which thoughts exist when that space has become conscious of itself.”

“You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is already within you, and allowing that goodness to emerge. But it can only emerge if something fundamental changes in your state of consciousness.”

“Consciousness incarnates into the manifested dimension, that is to say, it becomes form. When it does so, it enters a dreamlike state.Intelligence remains, but consciousness becomes unconscious of itself. It loses itself in form, becomes identified with forms. This could be described as the descent of the divine into matter.”

“You can lose something that that you have, but you cannot lose something that you are.”

"The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it." *

At the moment, this quote resonates with me the most. It sings out loud. It's not only positive thinking for me but proper, real, actual thinking about situations and life. I know it's cliche, but be your own cheerleader and always believe in you. Who else is going to do that apart from you? For you? After all, "acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation of all abundance" and I'd like to think, be a guide for those rough times.
For the new year, I hope to read as many life affirming and mind whirring reads as possible. I quite enjoyed the calmness of this one.

3.5 rating.

Full of flowery language and convoluted phrases that attempt to trick you into believing that the so-called teachings expounded are much "deeper" than they actually are. I read this concurrently with another (but nowhere as pretentious) title, called "Life's Little Instruction Book". Read that one instead.

This book of quotations from Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth (2005) is really designed for those already familiar with the author’s work. In his introduction, he recommends reading no more than one chapter at a time, at most, stopping to re-read whatever resonates and allowing the words to sink in. The book could also be used bibliomantically, selecting and reading a page at random, rather than to learn something new ‘but to go deeper’ and ‘awaken out of the stream of incessant and compulsive thinking.’
It’s not possible to summarise the wisdom here, but it is a book that you can come back to time and time again, and find that different passages now prompt some response, or new insights are found in familiar words. The insights might be deeply challenging and yet so simple at the same time. I’ll just quote one example:
'The modalities of awakened doing are acceptance, enjoyment and enthusiasm. Each one represents a certain vibrational frequency of consciousness. You need to be vigilant to make sure one of them operates whenever you are engaged in doing anything at all – from the most simple task to the most complex. If you are not in the state of acceptance, enjoyment, or enthusiasm, look closely and you will find that you are creating suffering for yourself and others.'
