I’m losing my mind against the forces of dark magic… but it’s nothing compared to losing the vampire I love.
After experiencing horrible betrayal, I’m a prisoner to evil men who long to use me as a tool against the supernatural world. Against my will, I’m forced to serve dark forces for an evil that’s unimaginable.
The magic that’s overwhelming my body is causing me to go insane. I fall ill under the influence of wicked power, and those that are holding me captive are using my weakness as a trap for my beloved.
Killian will do whatever it takes to save me, but he’s running out of time. If we’re to stop those that seek to dominate all magical kind, he’ll have to set me free from my darkness.
It still might be too late. Once the darkness claims me, there’s no turning back.
A delicious dark romance that’s full of twists and adventure, The Darkest Magic is the third book in Juliana Haygert’s Rite World: Vampire Wars series. This new adult urban fantasy love story is perfect for paranormal readers who love witches, vampires, and enemies-to-lovers stories.
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. She resides in North Carolina and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

I think I always knew this is where I was going to end up. Yesterday my Hoopla app got a weird error where it wouldn't play the file anymore (after resetting my phone, logging in and out I gave up) and I just took that as a sign to DNF this already. I'm very unhappy about where this was headed. The heroine was grating on me at this point. I really couldn't care less about the hero. The mystery can go dig itself a ditch because I no longer care enough about its resolution to put myself through the 3 and a half hours left of it. It's an unfortunate end considering how much I enjoyed the first book. Oh well onto better books ♡
Good conclusion. Since her mother's coven didn't work out, Killian takes him to his homeland--Dumore Castle. If book two was characterized by trickery, book three is definitely a book of betrayal. Although most of the plot twists were predictable, I found them satisfying and necessary. My questions were answered and the boxes for supernatural beings was a great part of the story.
Yet another delicious dark PNR read by Juliana. I cannot get enough of her books and I know once I started I won't be able to stop until I'm done. Twists and turns, dark, delicious, drama and intriguing.
Can this series get any better the supense is killing me lol. Killian and lavinia have overcome some tough battles and together there realionship is developing and growing, just when you think you know where the story is going bamm something else happens and blows it out of the water can wait to see where this going love this
Wow this was a great read! Follow Killian and Lavinia as they fight for there future and the futureof others. So many ups and downs the author did an amazing job with carictors and plot. Exciting and full of surprises what wonderful conclusion to this series.
OMG! So much suspense and love in this book! I seriously could not put it down. Killian and Lavinia have fought a hard battle and it comes to an amazing close in this book! The twist and turns along with the power to overcome is wonderfully written in this book. I loved this installment of the Rite World.
This book had its ups and downs for me. It definitely had more ups but it just wasn't quite a five star read, mainly for the fact that I set down this book and it took me four days later to actually want to get back to it. I don't exactly know why that was but there was just other things I wanted to do with my free time.
For the first time out of this series I actually liked and agreed with Killian as we got to read behind his point of view! Mainly agreed on the fact that having a party in the middle of a crisis makes no sense whatsoever, but here we are with another fantasy book having a ball in the middle of the action and I'm just like over it (so was Killian). Anyways, I've been wanting to see his point of view and so happy we finally got to! I was definitely a happy camper because of it!
Now, with Lavinia, oh watching her turn dark and pulled to use the magic from the boxes was great! I loved it, it had me sitting on the edge until one of her actions made me absolutely disgusted with her. But I know that was just to show you how truly gone she was and boy was she. I honestly hated her in that moment and had to walk away for a second after that chapter.
Overall this was a fast and satisfying conclusion for the series! There were twists that I didn’t see coming and wished we got more of those scenes but am happy with what was given! I still think this series could have been better if it wasn’t connected to the Rite World series because there were definitely info dumps here and there. Plus, with previous characters from other books coming into the scene they definitely took away the light from the main characters and felt like it was just too much.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It's been really nice in this series that they have been coming Fast & Furious. This got to me less than 2 months after the last book was published, so I still remembered the plot line!
My GUESS is this is the final book of this particular subseries set in the Rite World, but I don't know that for a fact. I say that because there is very little unresolved at the end.
This one completely focuses on the dark Warlock magical prison that the last book ended on. We also learn more about Killian & Lavinia's bond & who they are.
This is a must for anyone who read books 1 & 2; & I suspect (& hope!!) that this is far from the last we'll see of these characters.
The moderately challenging thing for me (& this may be more about me than anything else), is like in book 2, the antagonists are a bit more on the evil side than usual for Ms Haygert's writing. A couple of times, I did put it down after a few pages due to that. For me, in 2022 the real world has become so frightening that I prefer escapist fantasy to be a little less scary. But again, that's me.
As I also mentioned in a review of book 2, the sex is moderately explicit. Probably an average is it's appropriate for teens over 16 & adults, but everyone has their own parenting style.
The entire (sub) series (& complete Rite World series for that matter) is recommended.
The fight between the light and the darkness is sharpening, and with Lavinia captured by the warlock, the alliance around Drake and Thea might draw the short straw. Especially with the warlocks forcing the dark magic from the boxes on Lavinia, her strength of will might be insufficient to defy the darkness. Will Killian's love and Lavinia's heart be enough to avoid a disaster and even protect everyone's life? Betrayal, loss, determination, and hope are the strongest emotional drivers of the story. The characters from various series set into this world appear in this book and lend their support and abilities to the fight against the enemy. Killian's change of heart is fully demonstrated in the course of the story, and Lavinia's difficult situation and conflicting state of mind under the circumstances create plot twists escalating the tension. I also enjoyed the conclusion and hope to see the characters in the future again if possible.
The Darkest Magic is the third and final book in Juliana Haygert's Vampire Wars spin-off and this book picks up where book two left off. Lavinia has been taken. The warlocks she's been trying to evade have her and their plan is not something she's going to be on board with. Killian needs to find her and fast. This book's pace is pretty moderate overall, but the pace does pick up in places. The chapters alternate between Killian as he struggles with the disappearance of Lavinia, and Lavinia as she fights to find away from the warlocks who have entrapped her. The author does a really good job with the storyline in this book as there are familiar characters, and wild twists as well. There are a couple of nail-biting moments as well of where things get pretty close to the wire. I enjoyed this book, and I like how the characters show a nice amount of growth. I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's a nice ending to the series and gives a HEA to satisfy all.
The Darkest Magic is the final book in this exciting trilogy. Since I started reading the first chapter I was on the verge of anxiety to know what was happening. The road that Lavinia and Killian had to travel to be together was impressive. Full of twists and surprises that take you by surprise. I loved the development that Killian had in this book, how he joined the other characters to get Lavinia back and defeat her enemies once and for all. The surprise that Lavinia brought with her. As always, he loved seeing the characters that belong to the Rite World appear and the connections that are formed. I loved that the book was told from the perspective of Killian and Lavinia, I love dual POV. The ending was epic and I can't wait for the next adventures to happen in this fantastic world.
This third book was such a fantastic read. A dark and delicious story that captures you as soon as you start the first page. It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride but what a journey it has been as we have followed Lavinia and Killian. Twists and turns have followed them wherever they have traveled, it’s been exciting and enthralling and the characters are simply fab. I have really loved visiting this world, a world of witches and vampires, of enemies to lovers and I have loved the drama, loved the suspense and I have truly loved the adventure!
I totally adore Juliana Haygert. Her interlocking series are wonderfully fantastic and full of energy and compelling characters. That’s certainly true of her latest series, Rite World: Vampire Wars, now three books in with The Darkest Magic. Witches, vampires, magic, and a deliciously dark romance enemies-to-lover tale that’s totally full of the promised twists and turns and an incredibly fun adventure to boot. If you enjoy perfect world building an really wonderfully drawn characters then this series, and book, is for you. It’s not surprisingly easy to highly recommend.
Action-packed, intriguing, unexpected twists and turns, dark... couldn’t ask for more... well, tbh I could read more about Killian and Lavinia but Juliana wrapped their story with a golden ribbon and I couldn’t be happier!!! 🥰 Enthralling installment from start to finish, now, get ready for the next story... can't wait!!! 😍 #mustreadseries #Killianismine
Holy freaking.... what the hell did I just read....
I finally finished this series & loved each and every page once again. Juliana this series is so freaking damn hot!!!
The infamous Lavinia & Killian have blown me away with this amazing 3 book series, gee's its almost 4am here in Australia & I have just finished reading all 3 books from start to finish from yesterday morning!!!
Love this book. I can’t get enough of Killian. Lots of twists and turns in this series. Loved the vampires and witches since I normally only read one or the other. Look forward to more stories in this world.
Killian and Lavinia's Finale was amazing i liked the way Juliana wrapped this trilogy up and i cant wait to see what is next in this epic world i just need more
I got through this series pretty quickly and I really liked it. I would say a worthwhile read. There are some parts that in the third book could’ve been left out but still a worthwhile read.
