Unlock your potential for growth, creativity, and abundance with the energy of Beltane!
Also known as May Day, Beltane honors life and is a celebration of passion and putting your plans into action. The Earth's energies are at their strongest and most active, where all of life is bursting with potent fertility. At this point in the Wheel of the Year, your potential can be unleashed.
This is a beautifully designed book and card deck set. Each of the 44 cards in this oracle deck is a seed of spiritual guidance - inspired by ancient Beltane themes - to find answers to your most profound questions. The accompanying guidebook features original poetry from Juliet Diaz that doubles as invocations for magick and ritual.
These cards align with your energy, helping you to unlock your inner wisdom with the help of powerful spiritual forces. Along with thoughtful meanings and invocations, or powerful word spells, to invoke the energy of each card and to send your intentions of spiritual well-being out into the universe.
Lorriane Anderson is a tarot reader, astrologer, spiritual teacher, writer, and soul-based entrepreneur. Her work focuses heavily on sacred and intentional living as well as using spiritual practices as a pathway for profound healing, growth, and transformation. She is heavily influenced by her diverse lineage, bringing together healing practices from her ancestors in a practical, updated way. She owns and operates Spirit Element, a soul-based apothecary and Made with Stardust, which provides private label development and supplies for spiritual-based businesses. Her published works include Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle and Affirmations: Words of Inner Wisdom. She currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
If you don’t know much (or anything) about the Seasons of the Witch Oracles then here’s a quick introduction.
It’s is a series of oracle decks created by Lorriane Anderson, Juliet Diaz and illustrated by Giada Rose Goodman. Starting with Samhain, then moving through to Yule and now the latest release is the Beltane Oracle. The decks focus on the different themes, ideas and symbols that represent each of the Sabbats.
I have previously done an unboxing and review of the Yule Oracle in which I also compared it to the Samhain Oracle. Therefore, if either of those decks interest you then definitely check that out. You might feel more of a connection with other Sabbats so Samhain or Yule may be a good place to start with this series.
However! If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, like me, then you may be very much enjoying the lighter mornings and evenings. The clocks have recently gone forward here in the UK and if you’re ready to welcome back the sun, then the Beltane Oracle is exactly what you need right now. It’s got such a beautiful bright vibe to it.

About the Deck
As I mentioned the Beltane Oracle is the third in this series. Here’s the blurb:
“Unlock your potential for growth, creativity and abundance with the energy of Beltane!

My Thoughts
I think it’s only right to start with the overall look and aesthetics of the cards. As with the other two decks it’s beautiful and stunning. The illustrations, by Giada Rose are divine; just perfect for Beltane. The colours and themes perfectly capture the season and everything that Beltane represents. The back of each card is a yellow/gold colour and, rather than the hands that the other card backs featured, here there are bees. Which I think I prefer.
The guidebook is extremely detailed. It gives you an introduction to the deck, some different ways in which you might want to use the cards, and some spreads to use.
As with the other two decks it contains a three card spread and a variation on the Celtic Cross spread, which is always a popular spread in tarot and oracle readings. However I really love the spreads that have been created specifically to match the deck and its themes. For example the other spreads include: maypole, flower crown, self-worship, goddess and a creation spread.
Each spread is created to address the different energies around Beltane. Examples include: shifting perspectives, understanding your gifts, finding the right path, starting something new and general clarity and guidance.
For my first reading with this deck I decided to try the creation spread for starting something new. I was drawn to the maypole spread because it looks at things in your life to be grateful for, and encourages positive thinking about what you have and where you are in your life. I will get to that one next. For now there was something that i’m looking at starting that came to mind straight away so I feel like this was the best spread to do.
When I turned the cards that I had chosen I felt immediately warm and calm with what appeared. The symbols and themes of the cards connected with the questions I’d asked. Sometimes you can look at a card when you turn it over and it takes some time to appear to you or you may need to consult a guidebook but there was an instant feeling of knowing what the reading wanted to tell me.
I still consulted the guidebook because i really love the in depth explanations this book provides. There’s just something about Lorriane and Juliet’s words that I find comforting and thought provoking. They offer some really lovely guidance. It’s now something I’ve come to expect from these decks because I feel the same about all of them.
At first I wasn’t sure that I would connect with this deck as much as I did the others. I resonate a lot more with the other sabbats. However, once I started working with it and exploring the themes I realised that it had actually come at the perfect time for me. The ideas it explores are perfect for this time in my life and my current experiences. Obviously this is a very personal thing and so I can’t promise it’s going to feel like that for everyone.
Final Thoughts
One thing’s for sure, if you have either, or both, of the other two decks and you love them then you are going to love this one too. It fits perfectly with the series but is unique enough to stand alone and represent Beltane. I love that these decks all follow a similar style, with Giada Rose’s illustrations, and the words from Lorriane and Juliet, yet they are so unique in their themes and overall vibe.
You don’t have to stick to using them during the Sabbats that they represent. If anything I think I would choose a deck depending on the situation and things I want to ask about because they all explore different aspects of our lives. For example, Yule is about endings and has themes related to the frost and the end of a life cycle. Whereas Beltane is very much about new beginnings, waking up and bright vibrancy. The themes and ideas in each deck are perfectly in-tune with the seasons and time of year they represent.
There is a QR code in the back of the guidebook for some extra content. As of writing this the extra content hasn’t gone live yet so I can’t really comment on it. But just so you know it’s there.
I don’t feel like I have any negatives about this deck at all. I seriously adore this series. One thing that does make me a little sad is that in the back of the guidebook they haven’t said what the next oracle deck in the series will be. In the Yule one they said that Beltane would be next. I immediately flipped to the back to see what would be next, but alas they haven’t said. I suppose it means they can do a big reveal later. Please leave your guesses in the comments as to what Sabbat you think they are going to do next. Personally, I think Lughnasahd will be next.
*Oracle deck was gifted by Simon and Schuster on behalf of the publisher, Rockpool Publishing, in exchange for a review.
This book is thorough and nicely written, it has everything I could want in a guidebook, including several spreads that go beyond the usual Celtic Cross and three cards spreads that each and every book seems to trot out at every opportunity and even there were some adjustments made that customise the spreads to the theme of the deck. I liked that darker aspects were mentioned in the descriptions, even for the cards on the lighter spectrum of things. I would recommend this Deck as an Allrounder, even if it is keyed into the energy of Beltane specifically. It’s more like 4.5 stars.
One of my favorite decks and one that I connected with quite well. After purchasing the original Deck in this collaboration I immediately had to have this one. I love the artwork and the multiple meanings that I've found amongst the description and art. The guidebook is fantastic very descriptive but easy to follow. I look forward to more decks and metaphysical resources from this creator because each addition gets more exciting and powerful than the last 🌝
