When wanted and needed are two very different things…
Scarlett was ready for a change when the offer to take over a small clinic in the town of Garoureve passed her desk. Within a month she had arrived, ready to get right to work as the town’s newest medical provider. What she found, instead, was a town that needed her so desperately it wasn’t willing to let her go.
But for as much as she doesn’t understand the magic of the town, or anything about wolf shifter physiology, what she does know is that she’s slowly falling in love with the town baker and living her own sort of romance story. She might not have wanted to stay once the truth came out, but if the town isn’t going to let her leave, then she should make the most of it, right?
But when the inevitable happens and there’s nothing she can do to stop it, he pushes her away. When she finds out why, finds out everything he knew, and finds out the truth about the job offer, it might not matter how badly she’s needed.
The second book in a series of paranormal romances featuring plus-size heroines, wolf shifters, fated mates, and a town that magically appears when it’s needed.

READER BIO IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING: I'm a very easy to please reader - I read to escape. I read to enjoy. I'm a mood reader. I'm a binge reader. I love a book if it sparks a little joy and it turns pages. My Star Chart: ★ I finished it. I wish I hadn't. You will not see this rating very often if ever. ★★ I finished it because FOMO. I'm glad it's over. You will rarely see this. ★★★ It's a read. I'll give the most thoughts on this, to help other readers decide if they want to read. ★★★★ Sparks joy, would not reread. ★★★★★ Sparks joy, gives serotonin, would read again.
Elle M Drew really does write books you cannot put down. Just like book one in this series I was captivated from the first chapter and sped through it in a couple of days. They're the perfect kind of escapist paranormal fantasy romance to lend you a pick me up when you need it!
As much as I enjoyed the exploration of Ari's insecurities about her weight, the toxicity of diet culture, and her personal growth through this in book one, I equally adored that Scarlett didn't have the same hang ups about being plus-sized and had no issues with her size. Both kinds of representation are important.
Meanwhile Scarlett did have her own insecurities, particularly when it came to her skin and how self-conscious she was about her scarring. THIS was something I needed in a romance as someone with their own insecurities concerning skin and scarring that I've had to work through it's nice to see romantic leads who don't have that perfect, unblemished skin you hear casually described quite often in sex scenes. So thank you!
This book is primarily steam, lets be honest aha, but fabulous steam. It also touches on grief as well as the topics I've already mentioned. Plus Scarlett is awesome. So win win!
Heads up to anyone like me who prefers to know this going in, there is a terminal illness and death of a loved one in this book - I confess to having skimmed over that scene for personal reasons but I did appreciate the honesty of the storyline.
Needed in Garoureve is now available in paperback, ebook, and on kindle unlimited!
The second book in the series, this one features my favorite trope, which is grump and sunshine. It also has a nice little brush with a few kinks that I don't think anyone was expecting, but it certainly works!
This was a joy to write. While Ariana's journey is so much my own in how I feel about myself and my body, Scarlett is who I want to be when I grow up. She has a good head on her shoulders, a take no shit attitude, but can still see the beauty in life and the world. Also, I love Mardoc. He's a big boi.
Please be sure to check the trigger warnings listed in the front cover.
First of all I want to thank the author Elle M. Drew for sending me a free copy of her book in exchange for an honest review. I feel absolutely honored.
Needed in Garoureve is a wonderful sequel to One Night in Garoureve, the first book in this series. It is written with the same passion, love and mega hot love/sex scenes!
The book starts off with Scarlett arriving in Garoureve after she responded to a job offer as a nurse practitioner. She arrives late, and only the bakery is still open. She feels watched before she enters. Mardoc shows himself and instantly sparks fly. I loved how confident they both were. And how they invited each other to take it to the next level.
I mean this with the upmost respect. But Scarlett immediately thinks she has found the one. The one that fits her in every way possible. Her meet cute. It had a bit of a Disney feel to it. But of course a very adult Disney feel haha ;).
Of course having read the first book. I knew the secret of the town. But I liked how Scarlett found out she was in town blessed with magic and werewolves. I love how feisty nan May is. I don't want to spoil to much about the story. So you can all enjoy it as much as I did.
It's a beautiful love story and so, so, SOOOO incredibly hot!!! Ms. Drew knows exactly how to write a sex scene and the sparks flew of the pages into my bones. I truly enjoyed it a lot. A gorgeous book with an addictive story.
The only thing I missed a little bit is the wonder that the first book had. The story progresses really quickly, which in a way is wonderful. But I missed the magic a little bit of figuring out why there are howls at night, why there are so little people. Of course I know what the town is. But I kinda wished Scarlett went through those steps. It might have added a bit more magic to the story.
One thing I also loved is how different Scarlett and Mardoc are compared to Cole and Ariana. Of course the sex is blistering hot. But I truly loved how each where there own character. The book truly had a different feel from the first one. And for that I must applaud you Ms. Drew. Because sometimes in a series with different main charachters.. well the characters aren't as different as one would like.
Really, really wonderful read. I read it in one go and I truly recommend it.
everytime I read a third act conflict where the hero lied to the heroine from the start of the relationship, I think I simply would leave that man. Even if the heroine forgives him and they're soulmates or whatever, I would do it out of spite....and that's when I realize I'm way too stubborn, have an existential crisis about that, and question all my life choices... but I guess I can't really blame the book for that lmao
actual review: good writing, a bit repetitive from the first book, annoying third act conflict, some good spicy scenes, although sometimes the descriptions were a bit strange, like describing a position as "awkward"...okay I don't need realism, this is a shifter romance lol
Ya'll I cannot say enough good things about this series. I'm going to leave my notes, they're kind of scattered and I will eventually put it all together in a reasonably understandable review but my advice? Read it. Read it because it's so fucking good I just cannot stand myself.
This book in particular has breeding/daddy kink and we fucking LOOOVE it, jfc. Plus sized babes living and loving and just fucking existing. Heroine has burn scars.
I think a running theme so far in these books is forgiveness and like being able to move past hard things, messy feelings and reconciling that just because one thing exists (the lie) doesn't mean that the other (their love) doesn't. Does that make sense? And I fucking love that. I love the messy and the uncontrollable and the crazy bullshit that comes with it and it's just so fucking cathartic dude
Daddy Murdoc is such a sweet bean I fucking can't but the golden retriever energy + you're mine lemme put my babies in you??? I'm fucking cooked. Done. Pull me out of the goddamn oven, bitch.
Gothic vibes still struck a cord throughout this book, which I was super fucking happy about because I know in series sometimes it gets hard to maintain certain vibes when you have new characters.
3.5 stars. It’s pretty good but has some iffy bits. Some of the drama seems a bit contrived. And I don’t get the introduction of the “oh Daddy” stuff. It just feels weird and not organic to this relationship. I don’t get a place where the guys are lying to their fated mate as the norm.
I really wanted this to work for me but it fell a bit short and I’ll tell you why. I borrowed the first book but thankfully the content warnings let me know that book wouldn’t be be for me. So I decided to dive into the second one, and wished this had content warnings as well. I like the ‘verse and its setup, made me curious enough to keep reading. I liked that the FMC is fat but obsessed with her weight, but the story is unevenly paced and the first half is mostly just sex between the MMC and the FMC. Which I’m not opposed to sex scenes at all, I am opposed to sex in place of character development. It took way too long to get to her work scenes and I really didn’t want to read about a supporting character’s imminent death and needing to ease her way and helping her family into accepting accept it. Interesting but lived the tale, no interest in reading it in my romance so YMMV. At the end of the day, this may not be for me so maybe I’ll try a different series from this author? We’ll see.
I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The second book in The Shifters of Garoureve series starts off just as book 1 ends. Nurse practitioner Scarlett arrives in town to take over the medical practice and meets the town’s baker Mardoc, who I adored from the first book. He was even better this time around. Sweet, clueless Mardoc, who would definitely win my heart with coffee and lemon bars! Scarlett was a little more of a mystery, holding things back, but doing everything she could to help when a crisis arose.
The magic and mystery of Garoureve continues to build and I really can’t wait to see where this series goes. I love that the women are real, not model skinny, with imperfections and real issues. Plus throw in the little bit of Daddy kink in this one and YES BABY!!!!
Elle does it again. I adore Scarlett but I was going to throw Mardoc out in the street if he didn't get his shit together. Also bonus points for daddy kink. lmao
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Lemme tell you that Elle M Drews has done it again with this new addition to her The Shifters of Garoureve series. Her books are an absolute dream to read and she has an amazing way with words. Totally loving this world that she has created with these plus size women and sexy as sin men. This is definitely a spicy book with lots of canoodling (not that I am complaining).
This book follows the grumpy baker, Mardoc and a thiccc nurse practioner, Scarlett. It starts out with Scarlett choosing to explore the cute little bakery and she sure gets the best treat. I love the fact she is anti chocolate and has a thing for lemon bars. Mardoc is stunned at the new arrival in town and can't wait to share certain secrets with her. The two are completely twitterpated and I could not get enough of their instant spicy scene. Throughout the book, we realize that Scarlett just wants to do everything to heal the community and Mardoc's nan. All Mardoc wants to do is worship her and make her realize that even though she thinks she's defective she has everything he would ever need in a soulmate. I loved how the community comes together and we see some moments from Ariana and Cole. Keep the crossovers coming!
I can't wait to continue this book journey and see what is next in store for the Garoureve community.

I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you’re into bakery f@cking, a possible breeding k!nk, and endless O’s you’re gonna want to pick this up!
Elle has done it again with another all-consuming romance featuring the shifters of Garoureve! Once again I was sucked into the story immediately by Elle’s captivating writing that brings the chemistry right off the page. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! I cackled, I teared up, I swooned—what more could you want?
We have Mardoc who is a certified grump and stubborn as hell and then we have Scarlett who is sweet and smart and absolutely not putting up with any bs from anyone. I loved this couple and the way they complimented each other. Their love story was baked to perfection and the heat was turned all the way up from the very beginning. Also Scarlett’s inner monologue had me dying😂😂😂.
I was impressed by how different this plot was from the first book in the series while staying true to the things we loved. We got to see some more of Ari and Colburn which was great bc 🥺😍 but I also loved seeing the connection between Ari and Scarlett grow. Plus we get to learn more about the mystery of the shifter Magic and Garoureve which I was very curious about. I couldn’t be more excited to continue with this series I can’t wait to see what else Elle has up her sleeve!
It's cute, fluffy, little to no substance, rushed plot, but I dont care it was FLUFFY! Very cute. Follows much of the same vein as the first novel. Though it the main male character lost some of his character he had in the first book. Still didnt care, I needed the HEA and it was good.
These books are all vibes no plot which is sometimes fun but this just isn't hitting the spot for me. I do love the concept of the town and it's magic tho so I might continue to read this series.
Loved this first book. And I think this one is my new favorite! The female MC is a bad*ads and I love it. I love the way the author is tackling hard themes as well in relationships. The spice is PHENOMENAL. Headed to grab the third!!
I was so ready for Daddy Mardoc and his Lemon Bar 🫣
Scarlett and Mardoc are so hot together. Even if the story with his Nan was very sad, I enjoyed their book really well. I love that Scarlett is so honest about her feelings and knows exactly what she wants.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
She has her shit together. Like, really. She attended college, graduated to become a Nurse, then further trained to become a Nurse Practitioner. And then the American dream - she worked long hours at a steady, challenging job to chisel away at her student loan debt. She’s always had her feet firmly on the ground, she’s just that type of person - good in a crisis.
The day arrived when all her discipline and effort came to fruition: her educational and financial goals were accomplished. Thus, Scarlett began looking in a different direction. Why not leave behind the hectic, stressful, high-paced, anonymous patient care of the urban ER and find a rural, private practice, where she could learn patient names and faces? Where she could establish relationships with patients to ensure their long-term health and wellness? Isn’t that why she wanted to become a NP in the first place?
You know what they say, Scarlett? Be careful what you wish for.
She comes across an advertisement. The opportunity to take over a retiring physician’s clinic seems perfect: she accepts, gives her two weeks’ notice, and starts packing. There is the tiny matter of Garoureve not existing on any map that she could find, but - it’s a small town. She’s sure plenty of small towns have been misplaced. Right?
She finds the town - somehow - and is immediately enamored with its quaint appearance. It’s night, and she heads over to the bakery, where the lights are still on.
Their chemistry is instant.
They make silent eye contact; the air bubbles of a soufflé could expand during the vacuum stillness of the moment, of their stares. Their souls collide and slide past one another, like oil and water - smooth and slippery contact, all of one surrounding all of the other. They converse, they drink, they eat. That is, until the temperature rises and they explode into effervescent electricity, all baking soda and vinegar.
They soon learn that chemistry and passion, when left to sauté on high, can and will combust into flames, changing the compounds, charring them.
Elle M Drew’s sophomoric publication brings new and returning characters to life in the town of Garoureve. Along the course of Scarlett and Mardoc’s relationship, more of the town’s magic is unveiled to the reader. Beyond its nonexistence on a map and the apparent sentience of its boundaries (blocking those who wish to exit and issuing entrance to newcomers), the reader learns more about the town, its abilities, the townsfolk, and the shifters.
Through Scarlett’s eyes, we are reintroduced to Mardoc. What kind of mate will make him as soft and sugary as his signature brownies? A no-nonsense, logical, disciplined woman of science who knows what she wants, will pursue it, and can withstand taste-testing New Relationship Recipes while exploring the balance between his bitter and her sweet. They complement each other well; Mardoc quiets her mental monologue, blending her thoughts until smooth and Scarlett, in turn, melts Mardoc’s hardened exterior into softened butter. However when conflict occurs, they discover that “soulmate” is not synonymous with “inevitable HEA.”
Drew takes the clichéd trope and writes it into a realistic, messy relationship of two complex characters figuring out how to fight for it. We all have scars. Some of us can count more scars on the outside, some only on the inside. Scars have sealed over, but past trauma and the fear of loss can drive us to act in ways of fight, flight, or freeze. Will Scarlett and Mardoc be able to move past their issues? Or will they dice each other’s hearts? What is the binding ingredient their recipe needs? Will Scarlett and Mardoc learn how to keep the vinegar and baking soda in the bedroom and bring the eggs and milk - or rather - lemons and lavender, to their interpersonal communication?
I admire Scarlett: her strength, her level-headedness, her drive, her compassion. I’m excited to see how her role in the village changes over the next few books in this series, because she is definitely “Needed” in Garoureve.
This FMC was…. Yeah. Idk she wasn’t charming or that likable. The book starts with a bunch of incorrect information about nurse practitioners that’s damaging. Claiming she went to 10 years of school when NP is 4 yrs undergrad and 1.5-2 yrs NP school which can be done online. Only way we get to 10 is if you count high school. Then she spouts off about how she gives more “intimate” care than a doctor which is just disrespectful. An NP is required to have 500 clinical hours and doctors have upwards of 16,000 before they practice independently. Further, an NP could not practice independently without physician oversight. It’s clear throughout the book she is out of her depth. She doesn’t even attempt to enact comfort measures for a dying patient. Whom, in their last moments, she calls “the patient” to the family instead of the patient’s name. Starts arguments over the deathbed. Yeah, such great care.
Meanwhile she’s banging the patient’s grandson from the start which is fine because she didn’t know, but ethically she should’ve backed off a little and focused care on May and not left the bedside constantly for her own sexual needs. Tacky.
I literally couldn’t finish because it was annoying me so bad. She then goes on to argue that a doctor would have done the *wrong* thing by presenting care options for May, the patient. Seriously girl?? And she asserts that a doctor wouldn’t have listened to May. Pick one, is she getting options or ignored?? Ignoring a patient’s wishes is just malpractice and malfeasance. That’s not how being a doctor works.
Idk if the author has an NP in her life that has been filling her head with the idea that NPs are these compassionate, ultra good people that doctors could ~never~ be but it is damaging when in reality a lot of people are still working to be vulnerable in a medical setting and when books like this imply you can’t trust doctors, it only hurts real life patients. Do better. Be responsible with your words instead of demeaning doctors and implying nurse practitioners are on par.
I appreciate nurse practitioners but I understand they have their time and place. Soloing care for hospice isn’t it. Running an independent practice isnt it. Their role is to take simple cases and continue management as a physician has determined. That’s an incredibly valuable thing to the medical community and that’s the extent. Also everyone had wanted her to convince May to receive other care but no one tells her this until her last breath?? Wild.
The daddy kink doesn’t do it for me, but it might for you idk.
Disclaimer: I did receive a free advance copy of this book. The only thing that was asked of me was to give an honest review. Some spoilers below.
Summary of the book (which is going to be paraphrasing, however to get an accurate summary. There is one above by the author themselves). The novel is about a woman named Scarlet. A job posting had come across her desk to open a clinic in Garoureve. Within a month, she founds herself there. She meets Mardoc, Town's Baker, throughout the novel, secrets of the residents, and the town is revealed. She gets closer to Mardoc, and she finds out why she is needed in Garoureve. Here is my review: I honestly enjoyed it. My issue with the first book was the lack of interaction between the two main characters, and their environment with the town people. In this book, you have all of that. The interaction between Scarlet, Mardoc and the town's people, which I really appreciated. It set a different tone from the first book to this one, and how honest he is trying to be without overloading her with information. Spoilers ( the only spoiler i will include) My heart was breaking for Mardoc. I really like how there is a point when dealing with medical issues. For example: Logically you can understand what is happening, or what will happen but emotionally you don't. Until you go through it and deal with the fall out. The point about showing Mardoc having emotions and going through the stuff that he does. I think when it comes to shifters’ stories, they are typically written in a way that they are very masculine, and do not really show emotions. I think very rarely do we read (or see) one where that isn't the case. I liked how she was just there for him, and ready, and giving him space. Thought all of this, scarlet is doing her own thing. She is showing her own independence within the town. I kept thinking that it was a boss move. Elle (the author) writes those scenes perfectly. My only problem with Scarlet, which is more so of a personality clash that I have with her ( I am aware it's just a fictional character), is how she just accepted things. I also realize after writing that horribly worded sentence that it also the beauty of her personality.
I hope this was helpful. If I not, i do apologize. I think you all should check it out for some of the reasons that I listed above. I hope if you are reading this, that you have a great day (or night).

I am writing this review after receiving an ARC. This is an honest review.
I picked up One Night in Garoureve after listening to a review on TikTok and really enjoyed the story. Yeah, I know getting a recommendation on TikTok sounds crazy right?!?!?! Well I read it in ONE day. I just couldn't put it down. I found and followed Elle Drew on FB/Insta!!! I couldn't believe it was her first published novel. Fast forward, I made it to the ARC review team.... LUCKY ME!!!! I was desperate to get my hands on Needed in Garoureve. Let me tell you.... It did NOT disappoint.
First off... Although they could stand alone, I recommend you read them in order. Pick up One Night in Garoureve first then Needed in Garoureve! You'll get more background and gain a better understanding of the "world" she's created by doing so.
The MC, Scarlett, finds herself in Garoureve under unusual circumstances (much like the MC in the first book), but embraces the challenges she faces (unlike the MC in the first book). She's a woman with grit and tenacity. She has flaws and insecurities which are nicely woven into her character. She's not a barbie doll hooking up with an Andonis. She's got curves, scars, and is relatable.
Her love story and connection with Mardoc is instant. The chemistry between them his hot... like HAWT!!!!! This is a many-chili-pepper book. The sexy-time is not gratuitous and out of place, but indeed plentiful, which I like in spicy novels. The novel starts strongly in the spice-factor. Have a glass of wine in hand when you crack open this book. He is one sexy shifter with skills to match!!!
Mardoc faces a loss which tests his relationship with Scarlett. His character deals with the consequences of his choices and creates conflict and tension in the story.
It is a fast, easy read. I give it 5 stars because it's exactly what it says it is. A paranormal shifter romance with a happy ending. It is well-executed. The writing is tight, the story line well thought out, and the spice level is high.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
I feel like it’s rare to like a 2nd book more then the first but here we are. Needed in Garoureve was everything I wanted it to be and more! I don't think there are any spoilers but better safe than sorry.
I’ll be honest I’m not a huge fan of instant love but how it’s written here is just 🤌. I’m also a huge fan of fated mates which this absolutely is.
Our magical town is at it again bringing in Scarlett to reopen the clinic and act as the towns primary healthcare provider. On her first night there she stumbles into Mardoc’s bakery and after a fair amount of flirting the sparks start to fly! I don’t want to give too much away but while these two come together quickly they still aren’t perfect and don’t know each other.
I love that Scarlett owns her body and while she has some insecurities they don’t come from her weight. If that was something that turned you off about Ari in the first book, you’ll be happy with this one.
I enjoyed Mardoc in the first book, our grumpy baker who eventually was gossiping with Ari. Getting to know his character more in this was an absolute treat. He gets kinda flustered around Scarlett at times and it’s cute. I love seeing how much he cares about Scarlett and wants to tell her the truth since that was something he bitched at Cole for. He does end up keeping something from her and she’s not thrilled when she finds out.
The spice in this is 100% on point! Honestly, she delivered in book 1 and had no doubt that she would bring it in this one. These two go at it like rabbits and as always our MMC is ready to please and worship his mate. Their first time together is 🔥🔥🔥
I’m excited for the rest of the books in this series and will keep reading.

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! There is a slight spoiler at the end of this review but it is marked as such!
As a girl who has spent her whole life dreaming about falling in love and experiencing that picture perfect romance, I find myself in our protagonist Scarlett.
Her total confidence and trust in Mardoc is evident from the first chapter. They are a great example of that grumpy x sunshine couple without sacrificing their entire personalities. In reality people don’t fit into neat little archetypes, and Elle does a great job of building complete characters.
I also appreciate that the story can be read as a stand-alone from One Night in Garoureve and gives enough that we aren’t confused without spoiling it-just in case someone got lost on their journey and read out of order.
For my smut lovers, my gorgeous gorgeous kinky girls, you will not be disappointed!! Heed the warnings given because hot damn… Elle delivers.
Elle’s writing is fantastic because she has found a way to deliver a great story in an easily digestible form. I never feel like I am struggling to follow the characters or plot and can just fully relax and enjoy.
SPOILER AHEAD:
I also have to give her a shout out for the way she portrays grief through Scarlett and Mardoc. Their reactions are raw and genuine and I couldn’t help but get wrapped up in it. Nan’s death exists for a reason and wasn’t just a throw away thing to set our act 3 break up in motion. It gives us a deep and thorough understanding of how the residents of Garoureve grieve in a tasteful way.
Elle has done it again! I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review and I’m so excited to just ramble on about this book. Much like the first novel in this series, I was unable to put this book down once I got started. There was never a moment where I felt like I could “finish this chapter and pick it up tomorrow.” I was wholly invested in the plot and the characters. I needed to know what happened next.
Once again, Elle wrote each page in a way that I couldn’t wait to see what was on the next. And again, I was so caught up that I forgot to pause to take notes so I could write a hearty review.
I love that right off the bat this world feels comfortable and cozy. A place you’d go to retreat from the stresses of mundane life. These pages feel lived in. Like coming home. And all of the characters are so well rounded. They have strengths, weaknesses, flaws, and their own unique voices that stand out.
I was very happily surprised to see one of my favorite spicy scenarios written out in this book. Across all of the erotic books I’ve read, it’s not all that common and I felt very seen and validated to know that it’s included in one more place.
In my review of One Night in Garoureve, I stated my interest in seeing more interaction with minor characters, so I was very excited to see that come into play in this book (even if the fate of one of them made me want to cry).
Overall, I love this series! I binged read the whole novel like a person possessed. I’m waiting as patiently as possible for the next installment of gorgeous shifters.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
So funny story, I 100% signed up for this ARC thinking it was the first book...then realized that the ARC was for the second. Silly me signed up for the ARC without reading the first book and listen, there were no regrets at all (it may have forced me (I say force like it's a bad thing but it isn't because I enjoyed every moment of it)). I honestly cannot say enough good things about what Elle has done with this series (plus sized FMC, realistic issues, realistic kinks, sexy hot men, glorious glorious smut)! I will scream it from the roof top that you should read this series! I cannot wait for the third book to come out.
Two of the biggest kinks in this book were breeding and daddy kinks which I am forever down for! Daddy Murdoc is every woman's dream man, he's gorgeous, has himbo energy at times and the best part....HE OWNS A BAKERY. This man legit owns a bakery and makes the most delicious sweets. These books are realitvely quick burn with the relationship but Elle puts the characters to the test through trials that require communication and forgiveness and I think it nicely evens out the love at first sight!
Overall, this was such a smooth read and I am excited to read even more! Please give me all the shifters <3
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Needed in Garoureve is the second in The Shifters of Garoureve series and I’m living for this small town! Scarlett shows up in town to take over the local clinic only to find the doctor who she has been communicating with retired decades ago…someone sent her that letter, but who? Her new sick patient? The sexy baker she can’t keep her hands off? The local leader/alpha? Or was it the town, who knew she was needed? No matter, because she immediately finds reasons to stay, between caring for Nan and instalove with Mardoc.
I’m living for the relationship that developed between Scarlett and Mardoc. It has all the sweetness and spice that I love ❤️ I’m usually not a fan of instalove (it’s a personal preference), but I felt like this was written well and was authentic, all things considered. And can Elle M Drew write a sexy scene y’all 💦 I’m living for Daddy Mardoc
I love seeing this little town grow and develop! Each character is beautifully flawed in their own way and really adds genuineness to the overall story line. I would have loved to see more world developing beyond some quick medical explanations in this book, but I’m hopeful book 3 will have more. I love learning more about the town in each book!
Disclaimer: I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for my review.
Okay now that's out of the way, lemme tell you. I am so ecstatic I found this author before she completely takes over the romance scene! I read her first book and was so ecstatic to see that her next book would be coming out so shortly, I preordered, and found her facebook group where I was *just in time* to apply for an ARC copy.
Now there's certain tropes I feel that every romance reader will look past their normal DNF red flags. For me it's plus size characters. Especially FAT main characters. I will read through any horrible trope and drudging dialogue to support the representation of fat women in romance. HOWEVER. Miss Drew defied ALL EXPECTATIONS. Just like in the first of this series, our main character Scarlett, is a proud fat woman. She is a nurse practitioner (which is another plus because I am an RN) who's body is not an obstacle or centered around the whole plot of the story. This author has somehow managed to interweave believable and amazing world building, STEAMY SCENES, and a fat positive messaging all into one. This is literally the GOAT of series and I can't wait for more!!!!!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for a review.
I’ll be honest and say I was nervous for this book. I was absolutely feral for book 1 and was deeply concerned that my love for Colburn and Ariana would keep me from really being able to appreciate Mardoc and Scarlett.
Boy was Past Me a dummy. AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT.
Once again Elle takes us into a world of deeply devoted men who have experienced what it’s like to be without their mates and have a soul crushing appreciation for when them when they do appear.
Scarlett is smart and devoted to her career. While not the obnoxious peppy sunshine to his grump that we see in other books, her enthusiasm is realistic and relatable. Mardoc is …. Grumpy and complicated. I think that’s the best way to describe him. But even so he bleeds for Scarlett from the moment he locks eyes on her.
Once again Elle has taken the fantasy whimsy that we all know and love and woven it into a tale that is so relatable and realistic that you can easily place yourself in the center and forget all about it being fiction. Another 10/10.
From the moment I started it, I could not put this book down.
I love how different Scarlett is from Ariana. Often in these kinds of series I feel like the FMCs are the same person in a different font, but that is not the case here. I love that she is ready from the first chapter to just dive in to what (and who) Garoureve has to offer, and that the conflict in the story comes from outside forces.
I enjoyed all the little moments where you get a glimpse into what life in the town is like for these characters. There is also a concept here that a lot of knowledge may have been lost here, and there is a lot of work in store to rebuild this community to what it should be. It feels like something not often dealt with in romance novels with HEAs, but it’s cool to see that concept play out on the page.
And the spice. OMG the spice. I already knew Elle knew how to write a spicy scene, but damn, she can make kinks I definitely don’t have seem hot as hell on the page.
My only complaint is I have to wait for book 3.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
That was bad. Boy howdy a real stinker. Erotica and more adult movie than not. But there is a flip from vanilla to rocky road that comes completely out of nowhere. He even makes a comment about them not talking about limits and she blows him off with we are connected. The spicy stuff after the B (first word of bdsm) scene is less spicy but more typical d/s scenes. There are ick words for some people that may be a deal breaker. But truly the real reason that I say don't pick up this book is there isn't a plausible minute in the entire book. I hated the use of holistic medicine it reminded me way too much of moms that use essential oils and crystals. There are entire rants I could do on how stupid sections of the book are. Tumeric to treat an infection in a wolf shifter, proper communication between a Dom and sub, using the word bred and pups in connotation to a woman but none of these rage inducing matters count because it's all a made up world inside some woman's head. And in my opinion it should have just stayed there.
