But can he let her have the freedom to live a different life… A life without him… A life away from the club?
3.75 STARS I enjoyed this (new to me) author’s style of storytelling. It’s told in third person POV which has become less common. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it makes me feel a disconnect. ➖It worked for me in this book. I liked the raw and gritty nature of the story and characters. The characters are rough, tough and sexy. It depicts biker life in a way I think is appropriate. Hard living and they keep their softer emotions in for the most part. I think it’s why third person POV worked so well, too. I enjoyed the story, it has quite a few separate things going on in the story and with the characters that were interesting to me. It’s very sexy and includes FF scenes MFM and MF sex scenes. All pretty sexy and hot! I like “non-traditional” relationships. This definitely delivered! Fiery 🔥 Those scenes are also a bit of the rough and dirty as I mentioned about the tone of the book. It is a biker story after all ;) *One major note* The main character, Phoenix-Nix is Mute… it adds an interesting layer to the story because she can use sign language with close friends and her Uncle, but she’s limited in communication with others. It’s a very unique and interesting aspect to the character. And then, there’s the story of why she can’t speak. It’s a major plot point.
At times the story had a hiccup in the flow for me. It takes place over a year (I believe.) At times there was a bit too much detail that didn’t move the story forward or benefit it in my opinion. At other times a month or two would fly by and no details were given. It was just a bit jarring to me and I disconnected from the story and characters a bit.
I do like the secrets, the intentional trickery. There are different groups that know one secret but not another. It kept me on my toes and on the edge of my seat. There are emotional aspects to the story and characters that made me feel invested. Family, friends and lovers all add to the mix of different emotions. The feelings and emotions are incredibly subtle. They are there, though. It’s definitely not a typical romance at all. It’s more of fictional life story with the possibility of love and darker romance. Ash and Phoenix aren’t a typical romance couple, they have an attraction and maybe some understanding of each other on a basic level. They are practical and jaded. I think trust and loyalty are the main things they do have for each other. They have proven some serious loyalty to each other and “I’ll risk myself for you” type stuff. Those are both tenuous, though. And maybe they do have a grudging respect for each other. They are very stubborn.
The end has a lot happening. A few things that have been building and a few hinted at.
It’s definitely not the last of these characters in my opinion. It’s noted as book #1 in the series. Things were definitely not done or finished for any of the characters. It’s not a typical cliffhanger type ending, but it’s not a HEA. A lot of things are still unanswered and I want to know ALL the answers! Overall I enjoyed the story. I look forward to the next book and seeing where the characters are at. I’m also crossing my fingers for a strong relationship in the next book.
What an intense and emotional story. Phoenix (Charlie Picard) lost her father in a motorcycle accident in which she was in too. She suffered trauma to her throat that left her a mute. She was raised by her uncle Declan. She’s been I. Boarding schools and now finished with college she comes home to try and have a relationship with Declan. He has a garage that he works on motorcycles and gives her a job and lets her stay in the apartment above the garage. She’s got two best friends Viper and Jack that she would give her life for. After being mistaken for a dude , she starts to hang out with the local enforcer from the Road Devils MC. Ash is hot AF and befriends Phoenix now being called Nix. Now she has to figured out the truth without getting herself killed. Will she be found out that she is actually a girl before she figures out the truth? You will have to read this book to find out. Trust me when I say you will not be disappointed and won’t be able to put this book down lol. Roux Cantrell is truly one amazing author. I’ve read all of her books so far and loved them all. WTG Mama Roux on yet another epic story.

Roux Cantrell is a new author to me and has a a completely different writing style (3rd person) than what I am use to reading. However, after only a few pages I found my groove and quite enjoyed getting multiple POV during one scene. Now for the characters and plot. I mean Holy Moly!!! The Road Devils MC is seriously hot!!! This particular story has FF and MFM scenes so if that is your jam Phoenix's story is definitely for you. As the title 'Phoenix Rising' suggests this book to me feels like more of an introduction and build of what's to come. Phoenix has questions, secrets and is out for revenge. As she looks for answers it's almost a journey of self discovery as she learns more about herself, her family and her past. The story I found intriguing, suspenseful, steamy, tad frustrating and riddled with twists and turns. The ending... yes let's be honest a cliffy is always aaahhhhh but in this case it definitely left me wanting more. With unresolved storylines and questions that still need answering I know I will most definitely be reading Book 2.
Phoenix is not your conventional woman. After graduating college she’s coming home to the only family she has left which is her uncle Declan. After a traumatic experience when she was younger, she cannot speak but that doesn’t stop her from living her life full volume. Now she wants to reconnect with Declan and find out if her father’s accident was truly an accident or was someone behind it.
This book was full of suspense, secrets and plenty of steam. The MC was one of the shadiest ones that I have seen in a while. I’m still not quite sure how everything shook out within the club. I would love to see a second book of Phoenix’s story.
Off-the-chart steam. Bada** heroine. Sexy hero. A storyline like nothing you've ever read.
Roux takes us on a journey of survival and self discovery in this amazing introduction into the Road Devil's MC. She opens up the MC world and makes us feel right at home there. I fell in love with every single character in this book. The plot takes you on the ride of a lifetime and the ending leaves you begging for more. And the sex... Lort have mercy, the sex. But it's more than that. Phoenix Rising is the story of one woman finding her voice in a world determined to keep her silent. It's about breaking through boundaries and stereotypes. It's about triumph in heartache. It's about friendship and loyalty. It's a sensual, emotional ride wrapped in leather and chrome- a ride I definitely recommend!
Whooo whee. This is one of the sexy books I have read in awhile. I love the variety of voices and characters in this book. If you are looking for traditional romance then walk away. This is not it. It is edgy dark and very naughty. Wink.
Why the four stars. It ends abruptly, everything is not resolved either, and I want more. Hopefully that happens. I wished the book narrative would had set the it up better as a cliffhanger and let me know to expect more from this story. I should have guessed when it said #1. Eek. Haha.
If you don’t care about the ending and want extra spicy then look no further. You get plenty of hot and angsty in this book.
I really enjoyed the concept of this book and different aspects of the story. I think Phoenix made for an interesting main character. She was pulled in many different directions and in order to make parts of her life simpler, and sometimes safer, for her and others around her she had to try to hide her true self. I like that we learned a decent amount about her history in the beginning of the book so we understood some of her thoughts, actions and motivations. I think this was important because the book was written in third person, something I haven’t really read a lot of lately. It did take some getting used to because I love being in the character’s head but I think that the author did a good job using this point of view for the story.
While I did enjoy the story and the creative concept a few things just didn’t work as well for me. This is just me, I think other people really enjoyed this book but I found I was getting confused at times. The timeline would occasionally move too fast or slow and I couldn’t make sense of some of the timeline. As well, there were many different characters, problems and drama and I found myself getting a little lost or not really understanding the significance of some of the problems. Also, I felt like I was expecting something less stereotypical/predictable when it came to people finding out her true self. Again, this is just a me thing.
I did enjoy the concept a lot. I think having Phoenix as the main character and her fluidity was fresh for this genre. Some actions of the characters were creative and the mystery surrounding the death of her family and the steps she took to figuring out the murder and motivations were entertaining. The ending was enjoying and it’s a great lead in to the next book. It’s not a cliffhanger, more that this part of the story is settled but there’s more to come.
Roux Cantrell is a new to me author. Was definitely different than what I usually read. There was lots of suspense and action with MC club members secretly stirring up trouble trying to start a war. And our main character trying to keep her identity hidden from everyone.
This is Charlie’s (aka Phoenix) story and how she returned home to her uncle’s place and was determined to find out what really happened to her dad. Masquerading as a male biker and mechanic help to her uncle she began easing into the local MC club and getting close to their Sargent at Arms Ash. Tensions increase when she’s caught in the middle of a fight and her secret is found out, causing Phoenix and Ash to fight their own war.
All in all this was a really good book, frustrating but good. Would have loved to read more about Phoenix and Ash. I’m hoping there will be a book two because the ending was a bit open ended to leave you satisfied enough and heartbreakingly sad as there was no HEA for Ash and Phoenix. Not to mention the bomb drop of who the Club’s top dog was. And what happens now? I neeeeeeeed more!! This book does start out FF but gradually moves to MF when Ash and Phoenix’s relationship builds to more.
“Like the mythical Phoenix she had risen from the flames of chaos, and no one would clip her wings this time.”
A new to me author I was eager to jump straight in and fall into the rough and ready world of bikers. This story does not disappoint- it has all the elements of a great MC story with a couple of twists thrown in. The leading lady is mistaken for a boy and goes with it to get what she wants, she’s also mute. Seeing everyone communicate with her and picking up on her non verbal cues made me really appreciate the thought that had gone into this story. The positive portrayal and the fact that she didn’t struggle to communicate her feelings or opinions was really refreshing. I also liked the non conventional relationships and how the characters did fit neatly into any particular box. The steam factor was through the roof.
For me the plot was slow and then quick and built to something that didn’t quite reach its climax, it’s a slow burn and I’m waiting for the epic conclusion… it’s coming I can feel it! The characters were great and I loved how they all interacted I just wanted more! I think this is the beginning of a series and if so it’s great as it world builds, introduces a wealth of characters you are going to fall in love with and has suspense and intriguing plot twists throughout. Can’t wait to read more this author and I’ve already download some of the back catalogue!
A four star don’t let anyone clip wings read.

Roux Cantrell is a new to me author, and I'm super excited to keep reading her work after experiencing the originality that she displayed with Phoenix Rising. Phoenix lost her father in a motorcycle accident that left her with no voice. She can communicate fine with her friends, but it does have some complications when it comes to other people. She's recently come home to try & develop a relationship with her uncle, but things jump off pretty quickly. This story has a lot of twists coming in hot that kept me on the edge of my seat. There's also a lot of sexiness to this story though there were some things that I didn't care for but it's a personal preference so I won't say anything else about it. The big issue for me was the ending because it felt like it just stopped without anything resolved. I hope the next book will help me out with some things because I need some sort of resolution but that's just me. I'll just end with HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!
First thing, Phoenix was a very I interesting character. Mute, androgynous and tough as nails. She moves bs k in with her uncle because she wants a family. He is all she has left. They have not been together since he dropped of at her first private school. She hides behind Nix - the young mechanic for safety. She finds information that can cause danger to everyone. Getting close to Ash, the Road Devils enforcer may increase the danger. Ash is wary of Phoenix. He knows Something isn’t right. Once the truth comes out things get even more interesting. The story is definitely interesting and keeps you waiting for the shoe to drop. A lot of secrets and tense times. There is more to come (hopefully) in the next book. The book is written in 3rd person and there are quite a few characters. It was hard to keep it straight at first. Once you get into the story it gets easier. Intense, mystery, emotional roller coaster of a ride.
Roux Cantrell is a new author to me with a completely different writing style than I have read before. The first book in The Road Devils MC is seriously hot, FF and MFM scenes, so if that is your thing you will adore Phoenix's story, and just like a Phoenix Rising out of the ashes, so, is Phoenix and as secrets are revealed she learns more about herself, her family and the past, if Roux Contrell was trying to portray Phoenix as a dominant male type figure then from my point of view it worked. There is mystery and suspense full of twists and turns, and secondary characters that have they say throughout the book, be prepared this is one wild ride!
I would have given the book 4 stars, but the ending just sort of cut of with no real understanding if that was the end or if there was more to come from Phoenix.
This is the first in a new series and what a fantastic beginning this story is! Charlie / Phoenix is in a motorcycle adducent with her dad where he was killed and she was left with severs through injuries which have left her mute, and she was brought up by her uncle. When Phoenix finishes with college, she returns to the MC life and works for her uncle in his repair shop and lives in an apartment above. When Phoenix is mistaken for a male, she gets the chance to get to know the sergeant-at-arms Ash and becomes knows as Nix. This is a well written emotional roller coaster, which is dark, raw, gritty, intense, intriguing, and with secrets, family, friendships, trust, loyalty, suspense, danger, and is an entertaining and steamy riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This book had me hooked from the start. I got to know the characters, and decided I liked a few of them. My first by Cantrell, I think I will have to finish the series.
About the book: Phoenix is heading back home after graduating from College. She is going to see her uncle. Her parents were not alive and her uncle was the reason for her schooling success. Phoenix had butterflies in her stomach, wondering what her uncle would think. She was hoping her uncle would let her stay and work too... Phoenix new that this was also, the start of life without her good friends. Everyone was moving in different directions.
What Phoenix was not ready for, was the amber colored eyes of biker named Ash. Her attraction to him was severe, but he was an enforcer that her uncle wanted her to stay clear of. I recommend this book!
This was a new to me author. Unfortunately, for me this book failed to hit the mark in more than one aspect, hence the rating as much as I hated giving it. I was excited going into this book, but as soon as I started reading I should of trusted my gut, but was hoping it was a one time thing before the plot took off. To me looking at the blurb I didn't expect a lot of this book. The plot had huge potential but it got lost more often than not because of the heat that was going on in so many directions it was like one big adult game of twister. Just when I thought things could maybe turn my opinion around the book ended with most things feeling unresolved. Please remember that I am just one reader and I'm sure many will love this book, not everyone is going to love all the same books.
Wow what a sexy read! This author is new to me, but I enjoyed this book. I usually don't like 3rd person POV but the way she wrote is was pretty cool. The pacing was a little stop and go for me in this book, but I thought the plot was overall unique. There were hot and spicy scenes all throughout, (FF, MF, MFM), and some surprises that really added to the intrigue of this plot.
This story definitely left me wanting more. More from Nix and Ash, Jack and Viper, and to be honest I want more from all the characters (in a good way). The most frustrating thing about this book is the ending...it's a cliffhanger but I do not know if the next book in the series is going to address the questions I have from this storyline.
Omg I couldn't put this story down. Phoenix was heading back home after graduating college. Before a reunion with her uncle she was meeting up with her girls Viper & Jack before their lives changed. After her girl Jack overheard that Tango wanted to start a war with a rival gang & would take out anyone who stood in his way just like he took out bruits. Phoenix needed to find out what really happened to her Dad. This where things got tricky, she had to get a member indebted to her alter ego nix & that person was Ash for he already that Phoenix was a him. This story will have you on the edge of your seat; wondering if Nix can make it out alive & keep the ones she loves safe.
This is a new to me author and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not too big on MC books but this one was enjoyable. The characters are fully fleshed out and appropriate in the biker world; which means gritty, sexy, and angsty.
Phoenix is a unique FMC, I had never read a book with a mute h. She's an intriguing character with a strong backstory. I loved her.
The writing style is great but at times I thought there was too much description for stuff that didn't add anything to the plot. At times, I also felt it left out details in between the timelines. It's the first book in its series and ends in a cliffhanger. There's a lot going on and quite a lot of questions are left for the next books. I would definitely check the next one out.
Wow what a great read. I loved this story about Phoenix and Ash. Phoenix was going to see her Uncle who did work on the bikes of the local MC. She met Ash on the road, and he mistook her for a guy, so she had to keep the disguise to herself. Phoenix and her friends were there to help her find out what happened to her and her dad years ago. Someone was responsible for his death, but she did not know who was to blame. She had every intention of finding out who. This story had some twists and turns. I loved the storyline and the relationship between Phoenix, Viper and Jack. It made the story interesting and funny. But the real story is Ash and Phoenix. Their relationship was hot. Grab a copy and enjoy the book. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
After being away and living her life to the fullest, Charlie (Phoenix) wants to reconnect with her uncle and work at his garage, and to find out more about her father’s death. Phoenix knows that she hides behind being Nix, knowing that she needs answers, and they won’t give them to a woman, but when she finds out more than she ever expected things take a serious twist. Ash knows something is going on with the club, but he needs someone to have his back and Nix has done it more than once, and he can’t shake what he feels about Nix, with Nix being a guy. Nix has been keeping secrets, secrets that will change everything what happens when Ash finds out that Nix the man is really Phoenix the woman. Will she ever get the answers she wants. Can wait for the next book to see what happens.
Being new to Ms.Cantrell's work i've been looking forward to picking up her books! The synopsis for this one caught my eye and i knew i had to read it first. I picked it up and got into The Road Devil's MC world. I really liked this story!
Phoenix's journey got my attention. I really liked how i wasn't sure what all to expect in this story and how that pulled me into it. I enjoyed the fact that this was a different kind of read and how i felt many things throughout. I just struggled a bit at certain points.
With Phoenix Rising, Ms.Cantrell has created a good read! Looking forward to more from her.
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Phoenix Rising is the first book in The Road Devils MC Series and it’s off to a fantastic start. Phoenix (Charlie) was in an accident when she was young that left her with a disability, the same accident where she lost her father. She was raised by her uncle Declan, and he sent her away to boarding schools in order to keep her away from the MC. Now, after graduating college she’s headed home to her uncle. While there things take a crazy turn when she learns info about her father’s death, and then she’s mistaken as a man by Ash, the Sgt. at arms of the Road Devils MC. I loved this story and it’s filled with danger, suspense, drama, twists and turns, and plenty of steam. Highly recommend.
While returning home to rekindle a relationship with her uncle, Phoenix learns some things about her father’s death. Determined to get some answers she poses as a guy to get close to the local MC, and What Nix finds out could put everyone she knows in danger…
Phoenix Rising is a rather interesting story and my first from Roux Cantrell. The FMC is mute, POV is in third person, and the relationships are very non-traditional. This is not your typical MC romance. It’s an action packed, wild ride. Chalk full of secrets, suspense, and steam. **3.75 Stars**
IMO this book didn't get "good" until about 70% of the way and I'm not even sure how I managed to get to that point...well I can, I skipped a shit ton of it.
The whole F/F and F/F/F is not my jam when it comes to books. To each their own I am not judging it's just not my thing and if it was mentioned as a disclaimer I wouldn't of picked up the book at all.
The M/F/M shower scene was hot and ironically is at about the 70% mark that it happens. That's when twists in the story start too. I almost didn't pick up the sequel but decided to
I’m sorry for the 1 star review but I don’t even understand half of what was going on.
There were so many POV changes within the same paragraph I couldn’t even figure out what was trying to be said.
I also found it extremely unbelievable that she passed as a guy around a bunch of rough bikers. But all she had to do was put on a dress and was a completely different person and was unrecognizable? It was all just not clicking for me.
Also didn’t realize it was going to have a second book so now it’s just another series unfinished for me.
This is a first read for me by this author. I am not a fan of 3rd person POV but her writing style made it doable. The characters were all interesting, the storyline was filled with twists and the spice was off the charts. This was almost a 5 star in spite of the pov until the end. It definitely did NOT end like I wanted and the blurb for book 2 isn't sounding like I will get what I want. Still intrigued by these characters and will probably check it out.
Phoenix’s story was an interesting one. She’s a very unique woman with a disability that does not affect her in any way. She’s badass to the core. Her story is a wild ride from beginning to end that is filled with action, suspense, violence, drama, and twists and turns throughout. It’s also super steamy and will leave you begging for more.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more from this author.
I have been a MC story reader forever but never once have I ever read one with this perspective where the female leads, Phoenix and her girls are strong and can hold their own to any MC male lead. These are not your average women who bow to the mens knees. They bow when THEY want to. The twists will keep you captivated and the turns will keep you on the edge of your kindles. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for book 2 Warlord.
