Creatus #5

Creatus Talis

Rate this book
For four thousand years, creatus elders have insisted that the creatus population concealed themselves from human beings because humans had hunted the creatus almost to extinction...

But one woman's research reveals that when creatus first arrived on this planet, humans didn't fear the alien beings that looked so much like the human race. That is, until the creatus started to breed with humans, creating a ferocious killer feared by humans and creatus alike. A creature so fierce that its legacy of death and destruction has fed nightmares for millennia. And now, a new breed of creatus has been born -- or rather, reborn.

Vev, one of the first generations of creatus talis, finds herself torn between her younger family members and a forbidden love as she fights to save the young talis from being turned into a weapon -- or worse, annihilation.

Reader Profile: First and foremost, I am a reader. From the moment I could hold a book, I've been fascinated with the written word. I enjoy almost everything, but lean toward romantic-suspense and magical realism. If you're looking for poor reviews, you won't find them here. The reason...life's too short to read bad books. If a book isn't at least three stars halfway through, I stop reading, and therefore, don't feel as though I have the right to review it. That's my policy! Please don't send me requests, though. If you are one of my cyber friends, I will eventually find you. :)

Author Profile: I write stories that overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, a hint of paranormal sometimes, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a great story be without a tragic event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual but not erotic, gripping but not graphic, and will hopefully make you cry, laugh, love, and hope.

I'm a huge fan of Carmen DeSousa's Creatus series, and so I was thrilled to get an early read of this one. Creatus Talis is both an extension and a spin-off of the first four books. While some of the original characters continue on, we focus on new characters with a new direction. You don't have to read the early books to jump right into this new one. (Though you should, because they are too good to miss!)

I love Vev's character! She's a total badass, but in a way that feels believable. While we see she's conflicted and sometimes doubts herself, we also see her strength and determination.

The story has a lot of depth. Throughout the book, the content moves seamlessly from intense to emotional to thought-provoking.

One of my favorite things about this book and the series in general is that it's written in a way that feels entirely plausible. The explanations and the science all make sense. We could very well have a race of people called Creatus blending in with us average humans. The realism makes this book all the more captivating.

I think this book reads fine as a stand-alone. At the end, we're left with an issue to consider, something that we know will be incorporated in the next book. I am absolutely not a fan of cliffhangers, but I didn't get that irritated feel at all here. The ending left me satisfied with how the story played out, while also looking forward to what will happen next.

*I was provided with an advance copy of this book, with no expectations of a glowing review in return.*

Awesome!

I couldn’t put this book down, which caused me to read it in a few hours. There were several heart racing, adrenaline pumping, moments. Scenes that left me wanting to scream when the point of view changed. Definitely can’t wait for the next book. I NEED to see Vev and Arthur together. I NEED to see Kristina’s and Derrick’s baby. And Zach needs to back off; he’s so annoying — lol. Maybe have Zack fall for Zara.

Love this series! What a great book. The story line and new characters are great. I love how they mix in with the original characters. What a suspenseful ending that leaves you hanging and wanting more.

The only thing wrong with this book is.... it ended, can't wait for more!! Carmen DeSousa doesn't disappoint. Until then, I will patiently? Wait!

I liked this new look at the idea of aliens among us and the "bad guys" creating vampires. Just didn't realize before I started it that it is #1 in a spin off series.

I loved the Creatus series, but I HATED this book! I read the original series in less than a week, but it took be over a week just to get through this single book. I almost gave up a few times because I couldn't stand the characters. Now I'm upset that I didn't give up because the ending was terrible and I wish I would have cut it off on my own terms rather than waited until getting "the story never ends" as the end of this series. I noticed in the other books that Carmen is not so good with endings, but the ending of this book was so lazy!

It’s interesting but not enough to hold my attention. Patience is at a low right now.
