Do Not Disturb 2: Platinum Palace was filled with even more thrills and chills than the first book. This time the action takes place at The Platinum Palace, a posh casino/resort in Las Vegas.

A new batch of killer clowns has successfully shut-down the huge resort after dismantling all surveillance and communication pathways and trapping everyone inside...

What ensues is nothing less than unrelenting gruesome mayhem as the clowns unleash their sadistic and demented tortures on any and everyone they can get their "claws" wrapped around.

A lone police office, injured guest, and hotel security guard hopelessly fight an uphill battle to stop the carnage before it is too late for them all.

Athan never disappoints. The well developed characters and terrifying atmospheric plot made this one helluva a ghastly ride. Looking forward to Goldbrush: Do Not Disturb 3.

I usually give extra points to a sequel that improves on the first. And this is, for me, a more coherent story with an escalation of action and interesting world-building. It’s still an extreme horror novel with TONS of clown-related gore, but it does a better job of tying the sequences into the story. Now, one could argue the first book is the more visceral and violent of the two. In fact, while this is still wildly over the top in terms of gore and violence, it’s actually reigned in a little with less of a focus on squirm inducing extended gore sequences. This is closer to an attempt to tell a story given the premise of a network of mass murdering clown terrorists making an assault of Las Vegas. For the gore hounds, part one may be the more satisfying. But as an extreme horror Die Hard in casino with dismembering clown terrorists, this shows the author developing potential as a storyteller.

Hell yess!! I loved this book so much.. it was full of violence, gnarly creative kills, and depraved clowns! A calculated clown attack takes down the Platinum Palace and maybe even all of Las Vegas and beyond. Jon Athan is a master of extreme horror and this is just another awesome addition to his pile of depravity! 5/5 tortured skulls 💀

So the killer clowns have now gone global with their quest to destroy everything in sight. The set pieces and action scenes are much bigger and over the top this time, but I have to be honest and say that I still prefer the intimacy that the first book had.

In my opinion it's much scarier to have 4 clowns hunt you down in an abandoned motel where no one can hear you scream than it is to have hundreds of killer clowns hunting people down indiscriminately on the Las Vegas strip.

The book was very fun, but I still liked the first one more.

Love the series. So gruesome and disturbing at parts but still mange to make me feel for the characters trying to survive the madness. Really want to get to the next book soon. Like the whole horror clown madness type of feel of it.

Killer clowns, blood, gore, they are all back for round 2! A new batch of Clowns have come out to play, and they have some very imaginative kills! This one reminded me of slasher mixed with die hard as this time we also had a cop within the building trying to help the victims of the deranged killer clowns!

This may be unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the first one so much more. I love that Athan set this in Vegas. It's seems very appropriate for this level of mayhem. I love Vegas, but just .ight keep an eye out for clowns next time I'm there lol

The original Do Not Disturb was batshit crazy so it is pretty tough to follow that up. This sequel was actually more action packed than the original and had many intense moments to it, but I do prefer the first book.

While still amazing, there were times where this book felt like a collection of short stories. Characters get introduced and then die in that chapter. More characters get introduced and then die. This cycle carried on with only a few characters making it out. But still, every scene was pretty intense. I appreciate how Jon Athan just never stops the action!

Believe it or not, I’m coming back to edit this review after 8+ months, and bumping it from a 4 to a 5. I appreciate how wild this was and it has stuck with me so this is one of those rare occasions where I’m changing my initial rating.

I don’t think I have ever seen a more drastic improvement in writing quality than in Athan over the last couple years. This is a solid addition to his work and reads like an average novel by Richard Laymon or Edward Lee. That is certainly not an insult in my opinion. The guy is obviously working hard to better his writing, it truly shows, and I hope he keeps churning these out but the quality over quantity is obvious here.

That was PURE CARNAGE! As far as endings go, this didn’t quite fit my personal taste… but it’s still a masterclass of splatter horror. Jon athan rules!

Talk about a fucking sequel! Do Not Disturb 2 delivers on everything I loved about the first novel and so much more! Bigger in scope and action than the first, could not put it down. Read all 300+ pages in one sitting. Won't say much about the plot but it's kinda like Die Hard- but, y'know, if it was an exploitation flick about killer clowns laying siege on Las Vegas. Really hope Athan continues this 'Night of The Clowns' series cause I am loving it

After Do Not Disturb I had planned on taking a break from Athan and finishing I, Robot or starting another splatter western. But the first book in this series was too fun and I wanted to get right to the sequel. While other people may not like that this one isn't as small scale I appreciate the scope Athan aimed for. It added a lot more chaos and suspense to the plot. The death scenes weren't as shocking or revulsive as, say, the hookers death in the first book, but you gotta appreciate that sometimes even Jon Athan doesn't just set out to write gross stuff. He's a wonderful writer and he knows how to add depth to his characters, so I will absolutely forgive the less-vile deaths in this book. I honestly appreciate the action direction this one took over its predecessor because I needed a break from disturbing horror (still fucked up over The Groomer).

I really hope for a sequel, and I'm rooting for Athan to go the hospital route he mentions in his afterword.

Creepy

This is one creepy read, brutal and vicious, at the same time endearing and heartfelt. But parts have you squirming were your sat. Loved the non stop action and that there were so many characters. Lily is a delightful character. Bink is a gruesome character, with a sick sense of humour. But is it really the end, or just the beginning. Looking forward to finding out. However a great read as usual from this author. I think I've read every book by Mr Athan and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Not being one to hold back for his readers this author brings out some beautiful extreme horror novels that aren't for the easily offened. But are amazing reads. So I'd definitely recommend and any other of his books you may come across as I've not read a bad one yet.

“We’ll burn together.”

I have mixed feelings towards this book, although I liked it it definitely wasn’t as interesting and amazing to me as the first book was.
It’s just something about four killer clowns hunt you down in an abandoned motel than to have hundreds of killer clowns in Las Vegas, it just wasn’t the same vibes for sure.
Towards the end I kind of just wanted to finish it and be over with the book. I wasn’t disappointed in the story though because overall I enjoyed the book and I’m really excited about the third book in this series, it’s coming out later this year.

Another bloody hit!

Finished this in one night, another fast paced bloody gore fest! Clowns on a larger scale ravaging major cities at the same time. Several heroes trying to save the ones in peril, this would make a great horror movie!

This book was absolutely fucking repulsive and an emotional rollercoaster.

I listened to this on audible. The narrator did an absolutely fantastic job, especially when it came to the clowns 🤡 jon Athan is a favourite author of mine, so I expect to enjoy this book! It was actually the first book in this series that got me into extreme horror! This was a great book. The plot of the story was very well done. The characters he chose for this book were all very interesting. The details of the murders were absolutely brilliant and enjoyable to read about. This book is full of blood and gore and constant action, jon's writing is very easy to follow along with which is fantastic, I highly recommend reading this one!!

I feel that Jon Athan's writing has improved since Do Not Disturb 1, the story is more complete and developed, and there is more mystery and suspense, but I still preferred the first. Now don't get me wrong, I loved this book and I absolutely recommend it, but what I really liked about the first one was seeing clowns committing atrocities while being funny. There's also that in Platinum Palace, but it's diluted with the more Thriller type scenes, which are very interesting but less my thing. Anyway, it's a great book and it was really fun to read

Mindless, gory fun with really engaging writing.

I think I preferred the first book based mostly on the setting (motel in the middle of nowhere).

“They said the world was on fire. The world. There is no peace anywhere. No peace...”

A weekend at Sin City should've been a delightful and once in a life time adventure to many as they gambled in the casinos and spent priceless time with family. Adrian Castillo and his family (Wife; Laura and children; Andrew and Lily) were settling into their room overlooking the scenic Vegas Strip when suddenly a young boy painted as a clown would find him by the vending machine. Bud was merely a child who was so brainwashed and conditioned he was loyal to the teeth for the very clowns that victimized him first. With his tongue removed, he silently followed the young father up to his room and would soon be joined by Spike and Binks the clowns. Watching helplessly as Laura and Andrew plummeted thirty floors to their deaths below, Adrian was helpless when Binks took their daughter Lily from the room, promising to have her become another member of the murderous family. Determined no matter the odds to find his daughter, he would walk on bloody and traumatized flesh to reach her before they could hurt her. Meanwhile, police officer Franco Ferraro was one of the very first to arrive at Platinum Palace Resort & Casino as the first deaths were being discovered. As the clowns silenced communications from within the resort, nobody could make calls for help and officers were being executed before they could breach the perimeter. Investigating the deaths of Laura and Andrew, he was met with security guard Lee who was hesitant to risk his life to save others, but would quickly turn into the hero as he swallowed his fears and breached the security rooms where countless of his peers were executed hours earlier.

“Life is a game of Russian roulette. You risk dying every second of your life. You might be able to delay it, but sooner or later, death comes for everyone. Hell, in today’s world, even those that have been immortalized through their achievements can be erased from history— can be killed again. I’m here to tell you that death is not something to fear. It’s something to anticipate. It’s not something to run from. It’s something to run towards. Everything that we experience in life leads to this point. What you are about to witness is the ultimate game of chance.”

Lead by a mysterious clown named DeadFace, he worse a skinned face to cover his own while he preached to his followers the desires of death and torture to those who wouldn't join. So many children and adults slaughtered in horrific deaths, all while the clowns believed it was the new world being born. All over the globe fires were breaching out and clowns were stalking the masses and executing everyone they encountered. As Franco reconnected with Adrian, he made a vow to save his daughter Lily from the clowns no matter the cost. Using himself as a distraction, Adrian allowed himself to be captured and drug away to the auditorium to where the acts were broadcasted live. As many participated in horrible fears, the final call would be when DeadFace doused himself in gasoline and set himself ablaze, before others who light the hundreds of hostages on fire. In a room quickly taken by fire, Franco would manage to free Lily but unfortunately her father would burn to death as he did a parents ultimate sacrifice to protect his child. Separated at their final turn together, Franco managed to get to her before she was killed simply for having the makeup of a clown painted in her face. Hearing from other survivors the fate of other places, he worries now this is only the beginning of the end.

“To my family around the world: Kill until you die. We will be reunited soon. To the world, remember this: I am all, and we are one.”

Jon Athan went the James Cameron path on this enjoyable sequel to Do Not Disturb. In the original we have a neatly confined tale. People in the middle of nowhere in the only hotel/restaurant/market in miles with no way to communicate outside the tight quarters with a group of clowns picking them off one by one. For the sequel we move more into action than horror. Instead of a small group and the stalk/slash feeling of the first, now we have the whole of the Vegas Strip. And instead of a couple clowns, we have armies of them, supposedly around the world. While it's still horrific and gruesome, the feel is more action oriented. There is even a rather clear nod to Die Hard that's hard to miss.

All that is to say, I enjoyed the book quite a bit. The clowns remain both gruesome and gleefully morbid and no one is safe in Athan's world. Expanding the scope makes the more action-oriented tale feel like we are also diving deeper into the logic of the clowns as their larger plan unfolds.

Now, if you're a horror/slasher lover, like myself, you may find yourself slightly underwhelmed. It's a good book, but it loses the tension that the first book had, replacing quiet fear with more heroic attempts to stop clowns instead of desperately hiding while hearing the suffering of others that you are too scared to help.

So, it's a mild recommendation. I do think you should read the first one first. It is probably not a requirement, but it certainly helps tie some ideas together. And it's a great book. If you like the first one, give this a look. And if you're the type of person who enjoys Aliens more than Alien - you may even like this one more!

Really Good Sequel

I got this book for free, but I am definitely not the intended audience. This book is for hardcore fans of splatter punk. However, the quality of the story and the skill of the author are evident even to non-fans of the genre.

This is a really good sequel. The author increased the stakes and expanded the universe very well. He picked up all of the story threads he left in the previous book and ran with them, crafting something that flows naturally from the first book to make the world seem bigger and more functional. The increase in stakes is perfect and logical - from a hotel to a larger hotel in a casino, with an entire city full of bad guys.

The writing also seems tighter, with scenes flowing smoother and faster. The pacing of the action (outside of the torture scenes) is sped up. It also has more going on while keeping everything clear and ordered.

The characters are even handled better with less repetitive scenes and no direct stating of emotion.

The torture scenes are still tedious if you aren’t a fan of the subgenre.

I wish this author wrote general horror or better yet creature features instead of splatterpunk. He is quite skilled. This book is worth reading if you’re a fan of the genre.

A nice sequel but

I read these two books in quick succession because I was so jazzed up by the first. While I won't say I disliked this sequel by any means, it plucked vastly different chords for me and lost a little something in its mission to expand the scope of the phenomenon.
I guess the short and easy answer is that the first book had a distinct sense of intimacy and it felt like Jon took greater pains to craft especially memorable death sequences. Again, don't get me wrong, there's plenty shocking and memorable stuff in platinum palace, but there was almost a "naked knife fight in a phone booth" thing going on in the original that obviously can't be carried over if the author wants to take the next logical step and expand the chaos as he's done here.

And really it all comes down to taste; based on other reviews, I'm in the minority in my opinion on this and I'd absolutely recommend it if you enjoyed the original, but for me at least, it only knocked my socks part of the way off where the first one tore my socks off and put them in the blender.

"Do Not Disturb 2: The Platinum Palace" by Jon Athan

💥Please proceed with caution in regards to this read, as it is an extreme slasher💥

The city is under seige. Hundreds are dead in simultaneous shootings and bombings. The LVMPD has issued an emergency shelter-in-place order. The killer clowns are still wrecking havoc on the nation. Will their reign of terror ever end?

So this story is simultaneously happening at the same time as "Do Not Disturb" but in Vegas at the The Platinum Palace. Because of that, this books wastes no time getting to the nitty gritty. There's a lot more action inside this book, and infact, most of the action is very reminiscent of the Die Hard movies. I loved how the first book focused on an isolated part of Nevada and its characters and this sequel focuses on the crime and horror on a much larger scale. The ending to this also leaves room for a sequel. If that's something you'd like to read, please reach out to Athan and let him know you'd enjoy a continuation. Personally, I'd love to read a third! 5 🌟

Title: Do Not Disturb 2
Author: Jon Athan
Rating: 5/5

When you combine:
🤡 killer clowns,
🔥mayhem, and
🎰Las Vegas
the stage is effectively set for “the greatest show in the world!”

Fans of Job Athan will not be disappointed by Do Not Disturb 2! This sequel contains even more mayhem, violence, and gore than the original. This book is over 300 pages and is filled with unique clowns and numerous brutal kill scenes. I loved the way that the story alternates between characters…that aspect kept me turning the pages eagerly awaiting to see what would happen next. Fans of slashers and extreme horror should definitely add this series to their TBR!

In a way, I’m glad I waited to read this one because now I can start on Do Not Disturb 3 right away!

A WHOLE step up from book one! I definitely enjoyed the premise and story of DND but I was not ready for The Platinum Palace!
I loved the various POVs, the imagery, the Vegas chaos, the absolute carnage. The variety of clowns in this story were spot on.
There were a couple loose ends I would have liked to see tied up (like if the family in the arcade escaped or were found and killed), but that is not nearly enough to make me question how much I enjoyed this one.
Onto the next! DND 3: Goldbrush!
DO recommend: Lovers of Purge style rampages, freakish killer clowns, stories that you can devour in one sitting.
Do NOT recommend: Those terrified of clowns or the thought of the 2016 clown sightings happening again, violence against children, cannibalism, extreme violence/gore
