A fae pest-controller with a soft heart can easily end up with an apartment full of rescues.
And Kyra already has too many critters, including a basilisk who thinks he’s a turkey, a banshee nanny, and a pygmy kraken. She might take care of them, but they also fill her need for family. And when that family is threatened, she’ll risk everything to save them.

If Kim McDougall could have one magical superpower, it would be to talk to animals. Or maybe to shift into animal form. Definitely, fantastical critters and magic often feature in her stories. So until she can change into a Griffin and fly away, she writes dark paranormal action and romance tales. Kim is also passionate about fiber art, photography, children’s literacy, rescue animals, nature, and genre-bending fiction. She also writes for children under pen name Kim Chatel.
I started this book set with the intent of having something to read for a few weeks. Well that didn't happen! It was so interesting that I read until my tablet hit me in the face every night. No graphic sex or battles but romance and battles between right and evil in multiple magical realms.
I usually dont read books like these, but I am so glad I went out on a limb to read the first half of this series. It was entertaining, funny, so well written and so creative! I fell in love with the characters imediately, I couldnt possibly choose a favourite. The main character was a little confusing as a character though, she's supposed to have had fight training as a valkyrie but she seems to get kicked around a lot. She's still awesome though! I recommend this series if you're looking for something fun and fairly light hearted but still well written. It was a very unique experience and I can't wait to read the rest!
Thoroughly enjoyed the series. Interesting view of politics and governance as background with interesting main character using a future history twist as basic premise: Terra decides to rein in humanity by freeing magic and all the fairy tale and mythogical beings & beasties come out to take their place in society & government.
I loved this book. So many newer books follow the same dreary formula. These first three books of the series are a breath of fresh air. Likeable characters, just enough romance, strong friendships, and all the wonderful creatures. Best fantasy read in quite a long while.
I thoroughly enjoyed these stories individually, but to have all 4 in one volume is excellent. I adore Kyra’s character, Mason is a bit of an ass, but the creatures are wildly imaginative and very amusing. I also really like havin kindle unlimited so I can just binge read the whole series.
I felt these improved as the trilogy went on. There were a few niggly editing issues. I'm a sucker for a character who rescues animals, so I was predisposed to like Kyra. I also liked that she was a badass Valkyrie. The storyline had good pulling power. I would like to read more, hoping for some more rescues to warm my heart.
Strong female lead, cute but feisty critters, a menagerie of rescues (critter, human, and otherwise), humor, action, bravery, sacrifice, tolerance (and even love) for those who are “other.” Also magic, swords, scary villains, and an unpredictable environment that is a character in its own right. I love this world and the storytelling that went into it.
This box set contains the first three books in the series as well as a prequel short story. All four stories are excellent this is now one of my to buy series and an author I will follow. The characters are all well written and even Kyra's rescues have their own personalities.
This is a very amusing series, with titbits of knowledge and interesting hints thrown in. The MC has a pest control business but she doesn’t exterminate the pests and the pests are magical creatures not vermin. She relocates them to a wasteland between the magical realm and the human world. If you like light hearted adventures with a liberal dose of humour, this series may suit you.
I found this book easy to read and stayed up later to finish it. The creatures are very interesting and easy to love as characters. There is plenty of action and suspense. I am hoping that this won't be the end of the series.
Great new Fantasy series well written and suitable from young adults up. Love Kyra and her menagerie of all creatures you could imagine after an apocalypse. Plenty of magic action and fun.
This is an interesting storyline but the main character and her love interest are a clear case of opposites attract! Silly to try retelling story her in comments… I’d hate to ruin your surprise and delight.
I’m ready to read the next boxed set books 4-6. Can’t wait…
This story is interesting and includes adventure, intrigue, animals, found family and a slow burn frustration filled romance. I like it enough to reread.
