what did I just read. this was horrible.

What happened to this series? I absolutely loved book 1, and I couldn’t wait to rip into book 2. When I started book 2, I was devastated that book 3 wouldn’t be out until June. Now—I hate to say this, but I don’t care about book 3 because I’m not sure if I’ll read book 3. This series just took the most disappointing turn for the worst. There are a lot of issues with book 2.

I rated book one 4 stars. If it weren’t for the plot inconsistencies and other issues, plus some copy editing issues, IMO book 1 easily could’ve been 5 stars. When I saw book 1 was this author’s debut novel, I thought this series would only get better. Hence, I was ecstatic to read book 2. But what a terrible train wreck this book is.

First, it needs a copy editor and editor. Bad. I know copy editors and editors are not cheap, but in this case, I think they were desperately needed. There are truly good bones to this series, but it just dissolved into obnoxiously unsatisfying melodrama and headaches. I found myself skipping through much of it because it was painful to read at times.

I loved book 1, but I can’t stand any of the characters now. Truly, they’re awful. Especially Zander. By 30% of this book, I was completely over him. There’s is zero depth to him. Candy was supposed to be this bada$$ assassin and fighter, and she’s just a horrifically stupid doormat with zero judgement skills. Supposedly, she’s such a highly-trained assassin that she doesn’t even know her body count. That alone requires highly specialized training—the kind of training that requires extreme critical thinking skills to get out of tough binds and make the right calls in the heat of the moment. Candy being a highly-trained assassin is a load of bs. This girl can’t tie her own shoes without screwing up. She’s an assassin that doesn’t use a gun—just a pocketknife? In what universe? She’s a complete and utter mess, constantly making rash decisions that land her in a much worse situation. She fails to stand up for herself, time and time again. She saves the Seven’s lives multiple times in book 1, and yet every time she does, Zander says that she screwed up and now SHE owes THEM. Explain that one for me, because it’s bonkers. She owes them nothing for continually saving them. They owe HER, yet not once does she stand up for herself. She’s meek and pathetic with how easily she allows herself to be goaded, controlled, and routinely screwed over.

Let’s talk about plot and timeline inconsistencies (no spoilers from book 2–this is safe to read!), because this is driving me insane. An editor could have caught this, but even without an editor, the author not catching this is a let down. In the beginning of book 1, she kills Raphael because of what he did to her years prior. She does this on her own for personal reasons. It happens in the prologue and then book 1 skips ahead in the timeline. As book 1 goes on, Candy refers to killing Raphael 1 year ago, then it’s 6 months ago. She says she was under Hiram’s thumb for 1 year, then it’s 2 years, then it’s 3 years, and at another point in the book she claims it was 5 years. Which is it? She also says she’s been free of Hiram for 2 years, then it’s 1 year, and then it’s 6 months. Which is it? This is ridiculous y’all. How do these oversights happen in just book 1 alone? Book 2 is not better.

Let’s talk about grammar. For! The! Love! Of! God! Please stop with the exclamation points. Every paragraph in books 1 & 2 use exclamation points. They’re in the internal dialogue, the filler, and the actual dialogue. Every character speaks with exclamation points. It makes the series read like a melodramatic 14 year old’s diary. Eliminating the use of exclamation points would elevate the content. Readers can understand the emotion without the use of exclamation points. So many exclamation points feel distracting when reading.

As for the actual dialogue, it’s rough sometimes. It’s not all bad, but at times the dialogue in books 1 & 2 feel like they were originally written in another language, and then poorly translated into English. The dialogue is often choppy and mangled. It doesn’t flow or feel completely natural. I overlooked it quite a bit in book 1 because it was a debut novel, but book 2 did not resolve this. Sometimes there are odd words in the dialogue that make you pause and scratch your head. It’s just slightly off, but it happens a bit. Another set of eyes can often help catch that and give feedback.

Now for the Sevens (no spoilers). The Sevens are apparently some huge, tough, and intimidating gang. How? Where? When? Who? I don’t buy it. We never really see them. We just see the strip club. It’s hard to buy. I don’t buy it. Show us the gang. Make us believe it.

I hope this author can turn the series around, but they need an editor/copy editor for book 3. Unsure if I’ll even read book 3, but I truly loved book 1, so we’ll see. Just go into book 2 with lower expectations after reading book 1, because book 2 is a hot mess :(

Ooh, this second book was so good and the heat here was cranked up to maximum levels as Candy lets down her guard and finds herself in the position of having the three dangerous men she’s been lusting after finally seal the deal and it was bloody delicious. Candy now one of the sevens is all in, but with trouble on the horizon from Zander’s twisted father and her own past biting at her heels it’s not long before everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Lines are drawn loyalties tested and then to finally top things off a massive didn’t see coming cliffhanger that left me with a severe book hangover.

I’m so ready to start book two and I don’t believe for one minute that that finale doesn’t have some deeper implications after all it’s all about playing the game. I’m seriously loving this series it’s everything I look for in this particular genre and i definitely recommend reading it

So.
Ok.
That was a shitty ending.
And I know exactly where this is going in the last book…but I feel like maybe the pacing is off…like. I feel like im gonna need more time to ‘forgive’ than the next book is gonna allow for.
Plus, it doesn’t help that I still don’t like the one im supposed to be forgiving..

There’s a lot of work to be done and I have a feeling it’s just not gonna do it for me.
But we’ll see I guess.

Well this book sure kicked up the action and drama compared to book one. The harem develops officially and Candy does not have to choose 😜 As she’s been initiated into the club we get more insight into what the 7’s are and what/who they’re currently fighting. As Candy gets closer to the guys she delves more into sharing her background and getting info on theirs. A few new enemies arise, but with Candy and her background no longer a secret, she’s ready to fight, brawl or spar always and at anytime. While her time with Hiram was never regarded positively, I wasn’t expecting him to have trained her as a silent killer. The signs were there, even in book one, I guess I was just assuming her ‘kills’ were a cathartic way of dealing with her past and taking out the trash. Turns out there’s a lot more to Candy than meets the eye. One thing that shocks me is this cliffhanger. It’s fucking brutal. Book one had no cliffhanger so I was honestly not prepared for this one. Betrayal comes in many shades and I’m really hoping things are not as they appear. Holy smokes it was intense and I’m glad I kept going with this series because I definitely enjoyed this book a lot more! I’m more obsessed with the ridiculous drama at this point than the relationship.

I really enjoyed this installment of Candy's story. The relationship development in this book was really great. We got to see Candy grow closer with the guys and slowly begin to let them in. I also love the friendship Candy shares with Vixen and Mieko, a lot of these types of books don't promote solid female friendships enough so I loved the dynamics between these 3 ladies.

While I really liked this book, I didn't rate it higher because Candy started to grate on me a little bit. She was very quick to anger in this book with a hot temper that caused her to act a bit reckless. Where is the calculated killer Hiram created? She wouldn't have gotten away with everything she's done with a hair trigger like that so it felt out of character to me. I got exhausted by the constant anger. She spent a lot of time snapping and sneering and gritting her teeth. Sometimes it made it a little hard to remember why these guys want her so badly.

Beware this book does end on a pretty steep cliffhanger.
My thoughts on the cliffhanger:

Overall would definitely recommend!

Someone take away the exclamation point from this author. I can't take anything seriously. There's absolutely no chemistry between the FMC/MMCs and everything is just so juvenile. Rolling my eyes at everything so I figured it's a good time to put this down. Will not be picking it up again and I will be hesitant to read anything else from this author.

Holly Bloom your debut book was killer! No pun intended at all!! But ma'am what you have done with Slasher Heart was epically A-FREAKING-MAZING!!!

After reading your debut I knew that I had to read its sequel! You definitely did not disappoint and yet again have knocked this out of the park leaving us readers waiting and wanting more.

I have become enthralled with Candy, Vix and the Seven. This love triangle is scorching and only leaves us wanting more and more. I felt like Candy was FINALLY getting somewhere. It might not have been something that she saw herself wanting but at the end you could tell she would do anything and everything for her family.

As a reader you think you have everything all figured out. It's all tied up in this pretty bow and you are just waiting from page to page to see what happens next and if you were right. Until ....BAM everything you thought you knew is shattered....Was it all a lie? Where do they go from here? You can't be serious!!! Noooooooo!!! I am now beautifully broken and I loved every word in Slasher Heart!!

If you have not given this new series a try, I implore you to!!! You will become bewitched by Candy and the Seven and all it's gritty awesomeness!

Please read in order so you have all the back story!

Book 1 - Killer Candy
Book 2 - Slasher Heart - releasing Feb 1st
Book 3 - Reaper Flame - releasing June 1st

Thank you again Holly Bloom for another amazing book!! <3

OMG! I love this series. Candy is a bad ass! I really don't understand why people have slated this book. I loved it. It's exciting, and the sex scenes are hot. The ending is truly heartbreaking! I am looking forward to the conclusion.

Alright, this is a long one.

Idc if I probably shouldn’t leave a review knowing I didn’t get past a quarter of the book…. imma do it anyway

Here it goes😒…

Book 1 was rocky but I assumed things would be further developed in the second book. You know like characters and plot. But nope 🙅🏾‍♀️.

What we got is a means for group porn and “love at first sorry” 🙄. I’m Sick of it 😤

▪️ Zander is literally the replica of her abuser, why would you be attracted to that?! Why wouldn’t Zander raise more red flags for you? It just doesn’t make any sense.

🔹 If Candy is so afraid of Hiram that she breaks out in sweats and starts shaking when she receives a call or text from him, why wouldn’t she suffer either the same fate from Zander or be more apprehensive about Zander? 🤨

🔹 I mean if I ran away from my abuser, only to run into someone extremely similar, I’d either be they’re worst nightmare or I’d stay clear of them. In the 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 bit, I’d be very cautious around them. Why would I hand over my rights to them? 🤨

🔹 Like isn’t this whole Sevens thing almost the same thing as what she had to Hiram, only this time, she can’t even, for one:

❌ Fight her own battles
❌ 𝘖𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳… she’s rarely—if ever, aware of the plans that are about to take place.

^ why would you want to join a group like that? With someone that’s so full of themselves, they can’t even let they’re own team in on the bigger issue or plan?

▪️ Enough about Zander and Candy’s relationship because I could go on and on about the stupidity of it. 𝘌𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 because there isn’t any change of character at all, at least from what the other reviewers have stated and from what I’ve read so far. Zander is just an all around piece of shit(not even in an attractive way either), regardless if it works out in the end🤷🏾‍♀️

▪️ ☝🏾𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗'𝚝 𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚁𝚘𝚌𝚔𝚢… that may hurt a few souls, but I simply can not. Lemme tell you why…

🔹 I can’t stand the whole “knight in shining armor” thing when the person doesn’t need it and the “knights” opinion doesn’t matter. Meaning, Rocky’s input is never needed but it’s always given and adds nothing to the situation. Why is that? I never asked for his opinion nor did Candy. So why must he open his mouth so much. Especially when you know he’s just trying to win Candy over and not even because he genuinely cares. Only because he feels guilty and is holding onto what was. I mean he barely properly apologized before he started pushing his love for Candy onto her. If that’s not annoying and abrasive, I don’t know what to tell you. 🤷🏾‍♀️

▪️ Candy herself has a whole lot of plot holes, but I can also go on and on about how her actions don’t make sense. So I’ll just leave it at, “someone who’s lived such a traumatizing life that has fully shaped them into someone cold hearted and “𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥”, wouldn’t allow themselves or be caught dead in half of the situations she’s put herself into.”

▪️ Nothing to say about West. I like him. I just wished he would drop this whole “you’re an outsider, I don’t have to tell you anything” act. It’s old and annoying. Other than that, I would’ve loved to stay and watch their relationship develop. I love a good Teddy Bear🥰

▪️ Unfortunately for them, I couldn’t stand another second of Zander’s controlling(and in the least most unappealing way) behavior and Candy’s way of just brushing over it or sexualizing it. Ew🤢

❌ Would definitely not recommend or read the next book. 🤷🏾‍♀️👎🏾

PS: I have nothing against dark romances, I’ve read plenty. I just hate when the playing field isn’t leveled. Whether it’s that way from the very beginning or happens overtime, I hate when women are always left at a disadvantage to make the men seem more “dark and conning”. It ends up looking more like you can’t write good characters without making shitty villains or you can’t make good villains without making shitty characters 🤷🏾‍♀️
—I also hate when the plot doesn’t make sense. Makes sex scenes unbearable. At least make it funny. 🙄

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

Since reading the first book in this series, I’ve been in a bit of a book slump. Couldn’t get into anything, nothing grabbed my attention. Come to realise it’s because I was waiting for this book! I devoured this book.

But now I have a bone to pick. THE TWIST HAD ME SHOOK! Like gasped out loud, husband thought something happened kind of shooketh. How could you twist like that and then make me wait however long for the next instalment?!
I promise you this book will not disappoint. (First book must be read for the story to make sense). The sexiness is off the charts. Candy is feisty as hell and hilarious at the same time.

Also, any author who can slip in a mean girls quote needs to be shouted about from the rooftops.

I can’t post much more details without spoiling the book and I hate spoilers myself. But just know this book series will leave you shocked, smiling, and panting at the same time.

DAMN YOU HOLLY!

Okay lets be honest I am not sure if I love you or if I want to strangle you LMAO. This MFKN cliffy was brutal AF and one of the best cliffhangers I have ever read. The way this authors evil mind works man I would love to live inside her mind for a day. This book was everything that I freaking needed. Pure brilliance....While I may have wanted to throw my kindle at the freaking wall I can't help but love our girl Candy even more than I already did while she may not like the decisions that need to be made she is willing to sacrifice herself for the ones that she cares most about and that is what makes her a Queen. I cannot wait to see where this author takes us in book 3. I wish it was already here

some cliffhangers make you rejoice that you waited for the series to be complete.

This one found me with my jaw on the floor and my confusion and frustration on high levels.

Cliffy alert!

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice Level: 🌶🌶/5
Darkness Level: 💀/5

Slasher Heart picks up from where Killer Candy left off. I had hoped for the darkness to ramp up, but it actually fell, while the steam picked up towards the middle.

I always find the middle book in a series harder to review, as it tends to be the one with lots of character development, and this one is no different.

Unlike Killer Candy, this one has a killer cliffhanger, so excuse me while I go jump to book 3.

This book is epic! I think just in case anyone else has a similar experience, did find the book didn’t start as strong as the last one. As I read more, I was quickly swept up in Candy’s world and her life as a Seven. The heat is high on this book, and the character development just keeps going! That continues to be the author’s best strength: character development. Since I cannot begin to explain the twists and turns, the clues that I’m sure will mean something eventually, or emotions that take hold throughout this book, I can only say that readers are in for a wild ride…and I need the next book ASAP.

once again it was my fault for starting this when that last book isn’t out yet. idk if i should be mad or if i should just wait and be like “no it definitely wasn’t what it looked like. there’s more behind it” but i’m still trying to recover from that ending.

i mean seriously, what the actual crap Zander????? he better have the best explanation in reaper flame. gosh i hate him *ready to throw a temper tantrum* *tries to remember it’s just a book*

I really like Candy and her attitude in this book (and all of the guys are great too). The spice was definitely here and definitely worth it. Also the ending left me unable to sleep (a problem since I'd already stayed up into the early hours to finish reading the book because I couldn't put it down). I really enjoyed this one!

Props for the ending that just got progressively worse than I thought it could get with each paragraph. I only saw the first part coming, not the rest. 💔

I really liked candy in the first book, but not in this one. She has zero backbone, and doesn't use logic to make her decisions. Her skills also seem to vary widely depending on what's needed at the moment (able to fight 5 of the "best" at once and kill them easily, then later barely able to take down two). For someone who is supposed to be the right hand assassin/enforcer to the biggest crime lord on the west (east?? I forget) coast, that's really disappointing.

Also let's talk about the biggest issue in the entire book: Zander is asking her to blindly trust him while giving her zero reasons to do so, and when she first demonstrates that she doesn't like that by acting on her own, his solution is...to blindfold her and have a foursome so she'll...learn to blindly trust them??? THIS is what led to things spiraling so far out of control at the end; him demanding blind trust from each one of the Sevens. Smh.

Hm.
Hmmmmm.
Not as good as Book 1.
Candy looses a lot of her steam and badassness when she starts to get the feelings .
Zander is a manipulative asshole no matter which way you spin it, and I don't think I can get over it.
Poor West and Rocky.
The plot gets weird. It's a lot more familial vengeance than true mafia rivalries. More dumb prank and psychos than strategic masterminds.
What bothers me most is the ending, but not for the reason you think. It's that Candy just decides to go off on her own to meet the enemy as if things haven't been escalating. It's rash and stupid; not fitting for the badass assassin vibes. It doesn't fit in the writing at all .
Smuttier but not necessarily great smut.
I'm tired of Penelope; like, bitch bye

I am not ok!!! I cannot express with enough words how much I am loving this series and how invested I am in Candy and the Seven. Holly has created this amazing world in Port Valentine, you feel every emotion whether it’s love or betrayal so deeply! I was on the edge of my seat through the whole ending and left completely speechless as I read the final words. Absolutely a 5 star read and 100% recommend! Do it - read it now!!!

An utterly delicious ride on the wild side of the underground!

Holly Bloom definitely knows how to rip out your heart, sinking her claws in deep as you immerse yourself further into the world of the Lapland Underground with her second book in the series, Slasher Heart. This story has it all: a heart wrenching storyline, a fantastic edge of the seat plot and epic twists and turns that take you down a dark road of sexual tension, hot steamy chemistry and gut wrenching betrayal that will rock you to the core!

Candy, our fierce, independent and snarky as hell FMC, is slowly allowing herself to connect and feel again after past betrayals, building a family and a home for herself—one that she’s willing to do anything to protect. I freaking loved the dynamics of the group and how all the individual relationships were slowly developing between Candy and the guys, as well as with Vixen, Meiko and even Q. Seeing these tough and fierce characters slowly open up to each other, creating new bonds of trust and camaraderie, added so much depth to this story it was utter perfection. And the heat? So worth the wait! 🔥🥵🔥

“Remember what I said, little one…you are our girl now.”

Candy’s journey with The Sevens is a perfect dark and gritty ride that will call to your battered heart and wreak havoc on your soul—but damn is it worth it! The way that Bloom masterfully draws you into the life of The Sevens is deliciously dirty with freaking fantastic character development and plot twists that keep you always guessing. Just when you think you have it all figured out, guess again my friend. You haven’t seen anything yet! ;)

“I may be their girl, but the Seven men? They were all fucking mine.”

Overall if you’re a fan of dark RH stories that will break you before allowing you to be put back together—then this is the story for you! Seriously, this book is everything you want in a second book, and so much MORE! And that beautifully destructive cliffhanger of an ending?!?! It does NOT disappoint!

When all the chips are on the table, and all the cards are dealt, who will be left standing when the final hand is played?

I have not reviewed anything in a very long time, though I have continued reading stories like a reading junkie. So, here I go again, trying to review books and hopefully create the habit of reviewing books again (fingers crossed!).

The good:

Badass FMC (Check!) Candy has a take-no-prisoners type of personality and I'm honestly here for it.

Intriguing plot (Check!)

Awesome ride-or-die sidekick (Double check!) Mieko and Vixen were amazing characters. I especially love Mieko's strength throughout the series and her steadfast (friendship) love for Candy.

The can-be-improved:

Zander. He wasn't my favourite in the first one, and still isn't in this one. However, there were moments in this that I did enjoy. But the dude has way too many secrets.

The conclusion:

Now that's a cliffhanger! Thank goodness the third book is already out.

I did enjoy Slasher Heart. I'm giving it 4 stars. The writing is solid, the pacing is good, the main characters are basically anti-heroes, but still good in the grand scheme of things. I'm definitely rooting for Candy to finally get her happy ending. She and the rest of the Sevens have been through way too much.

Who is it for?:

People who like reading about a badass FMC and her morally questionable men. People who like female side characters that have personality and add to the relationship dynamics. People who like dark romances (hello, serial killers and violent tendencies!) And people who love reverse harems, because why choose? Almost forgot, people who also want the FMC to have all the attention in the harem.

Will I continue?
Yes. Technically, I've already finished it.

The storyline really comes through with this second book! Candy is a strong, independent and snarky FMC who really grows in this book, realizing her strength and dealing with what she went through growing up at the Blackthorne Towers. With this she is able to eventually comes to terms, which allows her to open up to the Sevens. They still struggle on fully accepting her into the Sevens, and what role she’ll play, which really opens the opportunity for trust on both sides. Her relationship between West and Zander develop throughout the book and the HEAT!! She also starts opening back up to Rocky, and it is beautiful and heartbreaking. Rocky has been racked with guilt his entire adulthood about what he did, but he realizes that he will always want to be in her life (swoon).
I would definitely set aside some time to read this, because it is binge-worthy, I couldn’t put it down! There are so many twists and turns that keep surprising you, leaving you wanting more. Especially that ending! UGHHH. Be prepared for a cliffhanger, and try not to through your book/kindle/phone. It leaves you with so many questions and wondering who is playing who. Seriously, if you haven’t started this series, YOU NEED TO.

I really enjoyed the first half, and then towards the ending from about 70% I just got really fed up with it. Candy really started to annoy me. I understand she’s been through so much but the constant angry attitude was grating, the constant snapping at people who spoke to her, even the ‘family/gang’ I was just over her talking to people like shit.

I enjoyed seeing them come together more, loved the relationship with Vixen especially seeing how she was in the first book. Spice was still very minimal, good group scene though. Zander is still a fave, I know he’s an asshole, especially after the ending but red flags where 😂

The ending like what? It’s obvious Zander did what he did for some reason but it’s just going to bring unnecessary drama of how they will over come it and I don’t know if I cba to read it all again. Penelope is driving me crazy, I knew she was going to be a pain the second she was mentioned.

My biggest issue is the single pov, I feel like it takes away so much story, you are literally blind to why the guys are doing what they’re doing etc and I’m just not a fan, I’m praying the 3rd book has their POVs but I don’t have high hopes.
