The pigeon: the vile deceiver. He, whose lies know no bounds, returns. This time the bus driver (who apparently is connected to that foul fowl in ways we do not currently comprehend) has a new mission for us whether we choose to accept it or not… don't let the pigeon stay up late.

The vile bird will try to deceive you, he will try to distract you, he will pull out every trick in his considerable arsenal to not send him to bed. Will you stand strong? Will you endure? Or will this diabolical creature win?

LISTEN NOT TO HIS LIES!

This is another solid Pigeon book, again my daughter loves standing up to him and telling him to go to bed. I also find it amusing how many of his tactics she used at one point and now won't because she "doesn't want to sound like the pigeon." All around, another fun Williams book. 4/5 stars

All time favourite in our house!

The pigeon needs to go to bed.

I'm not even tired!

He prefers to party, to watch TV, to talk about your day, count the stars etc.

And his is not yawing.

I was stretching.

Favourite quote: It's the middle of the day in China!

Small-fry calls these the ”silly bird books” and gets so excited every time we grab a new one. He honestly laughs and interacts with these stories more than any other.

(Also he calls the bird a bidgeon which is effing adorable, okay.)

After the pajama-clad Bus Driver asks the reader to make sure pigeon doesn't stay up late, he comes in and starts trying to persuade the readers to let him stay up late. "I hear there's a good show about birds on TV tonight. Should be very educational" and "Y'know, we never get to talk anymore. Tell me about your day-" Until FINALLY he falls asleep, clutching his stuffed bunny.

Do you know a child like this... who has droopy eyes and dark rings but WON'T go to sleep!? Well my nephew really needed this book. We've read other of the books in this series and ADORE them... this one was just as good and so timely for this age when they NEED 12 hours of sleep but barely get 6 or so hours...

The ART blows me away with its simplicity... Really the HUMOR sells the story and I LOVE that it is about manners and doing what's right not what you WANT to do... I really enjoy the pattern in the book from the bird posturing to the multi-panel page... There was NO duck this time though... I missed him and we both kept looking for him!

My nephew LOVES to draw the pages of this series... It's perfect with its simple backgrounds and basic shapes. He chose one of the hardest pages in the book to draw... The bird is NOT straight but is all angles and jumping squawking-ness. I was really happy how well it turned out.

I SOOO appreciate how the words are simplistic enough for children to understand (even ones with aphasia!) what is going on with pigeon and yet depthful enough that adults find it hilarious and enjoyable!!

BOTTOM LINE: Spot On 'Time to Go to Sleep' Book even the kiddos will enjoy!!

That dastardly pigeon is at it again and Mo Willems is here to get some young reader participation to help keep things in order. The pigeon spends the entire book trying to tell the reader that he’s not tired and could easily last through the night. Roll out the excuses and the delays, but as long as the reader does not bend, this pigeon should be sawing logs (and munching hot dogs) very soon. Slowly, the pigeon’s resolve fades and there is a yawn or two... but the battle is not over yet. Neo is a great sleeper and bedtime is usually quite easy. If Willems ever writes a “don’t let the pigeon wake with the roosters” book, I think Neo will have to read it daily until it sinks in. This series is pretty cute and Neo loves the defiant pigeon, knowing full well he can control its actions throughout the piece.

Pigeon doesn't want to go to bed and he uses every excuse in the book. I've heard many of these before, and if you're a parent, I'm sure you have, too. Pretty cute story!

It’s official. I have the humor of a five year old. Because this is the funniest nonsense in the world to me. For starters, WHO is this man who just… has a pigeon?! One single solitary defiant pigeon? Second, WHAT IS A HOT DOG PARTY???

Also pretty sure every parent and the like can relate to a chaotic pigeon trying desperately to convince you he is not tired.

After reading this book to a bunch of four year olds, repeatedly, for half a year, it is a surprise I still have my sanity. My heart goes out to my coworkers who still have to read this.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!. These are all the books I had read so far from Mo Willems’ popular “Pigeon” series! Recently, I had read another book from Mo Willems’ fantastic “Pigeon” series and it is called “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay up Late!” With witty dialogue and cute illustrations, “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay up Late!” is a fantastic read for children who are fans of the “Pigeon” series!

When the Bus Driver tells the readers that they have to make sure that the Pigeon does not stay up late, the Pigeon comes in and starts trying to persuade the readers to let him stay up late.

Once again, Mo Willems has amazed me with his witty dialogues and humorous illustrations in his popular “Pigeon” series! I loved the way that Mo Willems made the dialogue simplistic enough for small children to get a grasp on what is going on with Pigeon and yet is able to make the dialogue from the Pigeon hilarious enough for adults to enjoy. I loved the way that the Pigeon tries to persuade the readers to let him stay up late as many hilarious dialogues pop up whenever he is trying to convince everyone that he should stay up late. One of my most favorite quotes from the Pigeon was this:

“How about five more minutes? Come on! What’s five minutes in the grand scheme of things!?”

Mo Willems also did a fantastic job at exploring a parent’s frustrations at getting their own children to go to bed and having the Pigeon trying to persuade the readers to let him stay up late is really something that many parents would enjoy reading over and over again! I also loved Mo Willems’ illustrations as they were hilarious to look at and I also loved the simplistic drawings of the illustrations as they were extremely cute to look at! I really loved the image of the Pigeon himself as he has blue fur and constantly has crazy expressions on his face whenever he desperately wants events to go his way.

Overall, “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late” is a fantastic book for anyone who is a huge fan of the “Pigeon” series and for parents who also had trouble getting their children to go to bed! I would recommend this book to children ages three and up since the writing is simple enough for younger children to understand.

My 5 year old daughter loves Pigeon books. This one is a big favourite, as we find this silly pigeon trying to convince the reader he isn’t sleepy. He comes up with the funniest excuses. Ones parents will likely find relatable to the things their own kids say.

Willems is fantastic. Pure bliss. Fun, imaginative and so deliriously creative. I’ve just started mining the school library so I’ll search for more Pigeon and Elephant and Piggie books.
