A new ship . . .

A new crew . . .

A new crisis . . .

A friend at risk . . .

The Confederated Systems Alliance has spread to dozens of systems, creating the first true interstellar alliance dedicated to bringing peace and prosperity to all inhabited worlds. Unfortunately, some see this new alliance as a threat to their own seats of power, and would do anything to stop it.

After a well deserved rest, Captain Nathan Scott is once again called into action. This time, it is not the fate of the galaxy that is on his shoulders, but the life of one of his dearest friends.

But not all is as it appears.

Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories.
Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.)
A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.

I have been a fan of Ryk Brown since the first book of his initial series. I like to read books from local authors. I got in the habit of checking the local author section of my neighborhood bookstore. There I found the first book by Ryk Brown.

I thought the story was all over at the end of the frontier series. This is book one of a new series, but it is the same story just a year or so later than the original one. Oh boy, the story continues. I will have some more exciting adventures with my favorite characters.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is eight hours. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the book. He has been the narrator from the beginning of the first series.

Ryk Brown's put his star character Nathan Scott through more tribulations than Job. Over the course of two series, Scott, who serves most of the time as captain of the Aurora, a ship that's revolutionized space travel, has beaten despots, foiled plots to take over most of human space and risen from the dead. He inspires confidence in his crew and the imagination of the untold millions who populate human space. He earned his down time. But Brown is prolific, and he wasn't done. Enter "The Frontiers Saga Part 3." Nathan played some hockey, lived on a remote planet and got some rest. Then he got the news. He was needed. His buddy Vlad, the engineer who's accompanied him since the beginning, developed a new line of vessels, specifically a flagship a third the size of the original Aurora but with many more features with an emphasis on artificial intelligence built into the design. Vlad said it could do anything. The Alliance came calling, requesting that Nathan take charge, recruit a new crew and look into a potentially sticky situation one of his former crewmates had gotten into while on assignment on another world. Officials said he would be back in a week. Routine. The mission didn't turn out that way, and Nathan and his crew again faced a crisis that would have caramelized anybody else. Brown builds tension on his way to a conclusion. And in this case, it's big. He follows a plot similar to his original, and reminds his readers why we consume his copy so loyally. I hadn't realized Brown penned so many new titles. And I knew the potential downside was that once I started, I couldn't stop. I'm already on the fourth title in Part 3.

someone said the story was derivative, how can you say that the story just started.

Yes there may be some aspects like the main character group. But the story itself cannot be considered derivative because the story just started. Don’t believe any reviewer who tells you what a story is like just after reading the first chapter of a book.We have our family almost back together again Nathan Jessica Josh Loki, Kit, Mori and the rest of the Ghatazhak. These characters have become like family to us and we want to know what’s going on with them. Some people May not understand the story if they have not read the original two episodes. I urge you to go back and read them this is a great series. Fast paced and plenty of action, with new characters that we will have to figure out what potential they hold. Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series as I was this one.

Aurora is back!

Excellent!
The story continues as Nathan is convinced by his sister and Cameron to become captain of the new Aurora: EV-01. The first of many ships based on the original Aurora but completely redesigned.
Many of the previous main characters have returned in this new series of the Frontiers Saga. Set a few years in the future, most of the previous characters have moved on in their life. Nathan is confronted with an urgent situation and the new Aurora has to leave the assembly shipyard early. He approaches many of his previous crew and many rejoin. The saga continues in true "Aurora" style. You are familiar with the characters and the new book does not disappoint in any area.

Great book, but is there a massive blooper?

Not up to Ryk's normal standard. Plot is excellent but it is the detail that causes problems. For example. Leaving a downed ship with the cloaking system? No self destruct? What about destroying the ship using Aurora's weapons? So the Gamaze get the cloaking system from the shuttle? Really? to put such an important technology at risk in this way?

Some of the episodes in this series need to be checked carefully because they can be off-putting.

I understand this is the beginning of a new series called Frontiers. It has a strong Star Trek ship and crew feeling, perhaps updated with some modern technological understanding like AI and a bit more natural human banter. But it's not enough to qualify as fresh or original.

Also, I'm not sure if it's the first volume, because the crew already has some history, but maybe that is a storytelling method. Well, as you can tell, I didn't research this very much. I know Steve Gibson of Security Now podcast is a big Ryk Brown fan, so I wanted to check it out.

Ryk Brown at his best, churning out new plots and entertaining us , making the book a part of us with his enthralling story line.
Nathan returns with his crew to do what he does best, explore and make new friends and enemies. Action packed, with so much details jam-packed into it that we have to belive that all this technology is indeed real, the book packs a mighty punch.

Definitely one for the sci-fi readers.
Eagerly aiting for the next one.

Ridiculous

Honestly, I’ve read every single book by Ryk and this was a bit silly. Why would you send in agents with recognizable faces? Why would you not try the submarine extraction or try a jump suit to a specific position? Everyone seems to have to act extremely dumb for this plot line to occur and to walk into a trap over and over again. Also, I don’t much see the point of refusing to engage only to let yourself be blown up. Sigh.

Space Opera Series 3 - AWESOME!

I’m so glad this is continuing for a third season - as such. Still annoys the **** out of me with Nathan blabbing his mouth again to what was three strangers (at the time) that this Aurora is more powerful & advanced! Just shut up Nathan as you wouldn’t do that in the military!

Gripping read - but get their arse handed to them again …

Awaiting part two!

Spoilers..... you've been warned

1st, it took long enough!
2nd, what's the point of building a class of ships that can't go 1 on 1 with a Corvette? Ya took on 5 ships with no problems, but can't handle 1? Decided not to use a cargo hold full of jump missiles?
3rd, why didn't you blow the XK on departure or did you want the enemy to have a sample of the cloak tech....

Slow start on the new series....

Not as good

All a tad underwhelming. All the main characters are here, but it's like the author forgot we have gone through 20 odd books with them already and needs to explain the basics all over again
The ending is basically setting up the series for what was the initial series, or thats how it appears. Will be interesting to see if it's just a rinse and repeat or something totally new from a similar situation

Mr. Brown has delivered another great series.

I was sad when the last series ended. I thought the characters we had come to love was gone. They're back with a new purpose and seemingly new adversary. The battle action was good. Also, there were a lot of new technical enhancements on the new Aurora. Looking forward for the next episode.

Ryk Brown does it again

I’ve read every book in the series and this one continues the legacy. Thanks for putting up with the evil empire’s tyrannical rules to get these books to your fans. I would gladly pay for these excellent works to support the author. Too bad part of it goes to the evil overlord but THANK YOU.

Great to have the gang back but

My favorite series and Great to have the gang back and love having Hanna as part of the story . Very nice wrinkle -but i am not sure Ryk wrote this book. This was so below what we are accustomed to. Very ,very short and amateurish compared to past installments. Look forward to more but a little concerned here

Great start to Part 3 of the Frontiers Saga

After some months of vacation, Nathan is back on duty in the new Aurora along with lots of familiar faces and some new ones.
There is a conflict brewing between a non alliance world and one of our allies. Several rescue missions later things are starting to fall apart. Its a wild ride with another cliff hanger.

Outstanding return

I was worried that series 3 would be a series too far and that the story line had come to an end but Ryk has pulled it off again with a gripping start to this new series. Look forward to following another series of The Frontiers Saga. If only there could be a new book every week! (I know that's not a practical expectation)

wahoo!! they’re back!

And yet there more. Ryk has a phenomenal way of quickly drawing you into suspense. Love the characters as they’ve developed. They’re heroic but not laden with stupid self inflicted crises. Just thrilled for the third saga. Do yourselves a favor and read the first three first! They’re all excellent. And this does not disappoint.

another cliff hanger.

Good story. Wouldn’t rate it in top of the series but still keeps your interest. Nathan and his patchwork crew get into another situation typical of Nathan. Cast of characters changed slightly enough to add new blood. Can’t stress enough, without reading the previous 30 books this will get you lost by page 12.

His BEST book yet

N-stop page turner! Best book yet! Cannot wait for the next in the series. Keep ‘em coming! This was an edge of your seat, nail biter. Glad to see the original cast tied into the fall of the core cast.

Suspenseful sci-fi

This was an exciting addition to a thrilling series. A gripping jump start into the 3rd installment of the saga. This did not end as I expected. What comes after this has me eating my nails in anticipation.

Exhilarating

Ryk Brown recaptures the thrill that hooked me on this series in the first place. I have been this excited/anxious for the follow up in a while. A truly enjoyable read and one of the best in the series.

Exactly what I wanted

Been waiting for this for a while and it did not disappoint. The new ship was every I expected and more. The story was a little short but worked very well in setting up the future story line. The twist at the end, BRILLIANT.

Rousing beginning

Run Brown again starts the new chapter out in a rousing style. The set up looks to make for a great chapter in the Aurora's story. His tie in to Fall of the Core is seem less. Looking forward to the next episode.

Another great addition to the series and a great first book into part 3. Ryk really sets up a great story for part 3 based on what we have so far that will hopefully give us something a little different than parts 1 and 2.

Ok yes it's CV-01 all over again, but W00T it's worth it

Been waiting for this, worrying it was going to be disappointing.

So glad I worried for no reason.

Can't wait for the next book
