Now that I’ve had time to think about why I didn’t like this, I’m giving an update. Nikki is incredibly selfish. She was somehow upset when the person she supposedly loves is upset when she gives him an ultimatum? What? Give up going to college and going for your dreams to stay there with her? Because she thinks that’s what he should do? I’m all for love but not at the expense of one person having to sacrifice that much unnecessarily.
This was such a cute little novel! I have been in a bit of a reading slump, so I was really just looking for something short, sweet, and too the point to get me back into the swing of things. And oh boy! Did Five Days with my Ex deliver!!! I have to admit, that depending on the show, I’ve gotten sucked down the reality TV rabbit hole once or twice, and this book delivered a very similar experience.
Nikki and Kai were high school sweethearts who due to life events and their own immaturity were forced apart during their college years. However, they’re offered a second chance at love when they’re nominated for “Time Warp” a reality tv show that traps them in a house together for five days to see if they can make a go of it. Man oh man do they make a go of it 😂. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows though as there are things in both Nikki and Kai’s pasts that make them hesitant to move forward in a new relationship together!
Overall this book was a funny, quick read that was the perfect thing to get me out of my reading slump! And if you’re a lover of reality tv then this may just be the book for you!
Kai and Nikki, two stubborn exes. Will they soften enough to get together or ruin everything. The Time Warp show is a great story plot. I wanted to just keep reading until I found out what happened. And the ending is genius, absolutely perfect.
Can two high school heartthrobs get a second chance? A struggling entrepreneur and an almost lawyer. With a lot of money on the line for a reality show, will they cave? Forgive each other? Fall in love again? Can they last the full 5 days? Come laugh along this great storyline:) Happy Reading!
Short and cute. I gave it four stars because it wasn't long enough for the characters to fully develop and to really go deep. But for the length you still got a good glimpse of who they were. It was light and easy, which is also really needed sometimes
I love second chance romances and this is a fun one. The characters are stubborn and both are sure they are the victims. I love the reunion premise and the growth of both characters during the story.
It was a good book. Nikki was irritating ne a little with her almighty attitude but she made things right later. You could see how much Kai still loved her, so cute
A fun little novel. Read it in one sitting. It was interesting to see the characters as they rekindled their romance, but it was also interesting to see some of their growth.
This will make you laugh! This will make you think about all those years ago. It might make you wonder about the what-ifs but you will thoroughly enjoy it. Nice job.
Wow. This is a great concept for a series of short stories. A game show where two high school sweethearts who have gone their separate ways are brought back together for five days to see if they actually missed out on love the first time or if they made the right choice by going separate ways. Kai and Nikki were Tuscan High sweethearts. Kai left for college in California but Nikki had to stay in Arizona because of family problems. Do they get back together or was their relationship doomed to failure?
So, this story was fun. There’s a Big Brother inspired theme to it. They’re exes living in a house together for 5 days. The idea is that they will get to review the past and make amends while getting to know the new versions of themselves in the process. I loved the idea and that’s why I kept reading and even read the second book in the series.
My main issue is the heroine. She’s so set on her one opinion, very self absorbed and stubborn that she’s really unlikeable. So unlikeable I didn’t see why her ex would even want to continue trying to get back together. She was so firm on making him take all the blame for the choice he made to HER ultimatum. It was really annoying and frustrating to read. Eventually this ends in a HEA, she is finally able to stop making everything about her and see his point of view. Once that happens she’s more like able but getting to that point was very frustrating as a reader.
I didn’t see her ex being in the wrong at any point so that made it even harder to root for her.
The author definitely writes some swoony moments and makes her heroes so chivalrous it’ll make you jealous. If the heroine wasn’t so over the top stubborn this would have been a 4 for me!
Nikki and her former high school sweetheart find themselves on a reality TV show, surrounded by dozens of cameras and watched by millions. Confined in a house, their every move is recorded. The mission sure is to rekindle their high school romance. Although Nikki has set herself some basic rules, that doesn't mean she'll stick to them for long, especially since she's still in love with her ex. At times, it might be a little irritating how much she wavers on whether or not to give it another shot. The challenges they face on the TV show are very entertaining, with humorous moments and character reactions. The story is told from her perspective, so perhaps it's understandable why she goes back and forth so much, but he's definitely not any less stubborn. The expected sweet ending. I recommend this book if you're looking for something sweet to unwind with; the characters are interesting, the plot is entertaining, and you don't need to overthink it too much.
I read this novella as part of the Love, Laughter & Happily Ever After box set.
The premise was fun--a reality show where former couples spend 5 days in a house doing activities and at the end of the 5 days they choose whether to get back together again.
I love a second chance romance story especially when I can see the couple work through what broke them up the first time. I loved the show's recreations from Nikki and Kai's past. This was a super fun read and even though it's a novella the story was complete.
Cute novella as high school sweethearts that parted before college get a second chance at love 5 years later on a reality TV show. It was a kinda goofy concept and the things they did on the program I thought were a bit odd, but I gave it 4 stars for a cute concept and it had more depth and heart than you expect as they revisit the cause of their break up and try to resolve the conflicts.
What a great idea to have two exes meet again in a reality show. I really enjoyed that story. While reading the first few chapters, something happened that barely happens: I laughed out loud. Unfortunately, the story lost this humorous side after Nikki and Kai‘s first date in the show. Still a really good story.
I really love a good second-chance, and so I picked up this series as they are all second-chance tropes, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my liking. But I have given this the benefit of the doubt and will try to read the next book in the series.
I know that these are novellas and the books are focused solely on the few days (in this case, five) of a TV show, so we don't get to connect with these characters emotionally at all or fully grasp and understand their story from before. Also, since this book was only from a single POV, I just couldn't understand what was going on in the MMC's head. It just felt so unrealistic to suddenly have exes come to a show, with one suddenly claiming they have been wanting a chance at this with no context at all. Plus, if they wanted a chance, shouldn't they have reached out or pined all this while and done something about it? The MCs were also being kids about whose fault it was, like come on, now neither of you are kids. She clearly was in a tough situation that he failed to realize and help her out with and he never communciated stuff with her and neither did she when she gave the ultimatum (this is what I can conclude given that we were never taken through the past with an alternating timeline to read what exactly went down).
More from the random freebies shelf (I think... I don't remember paying for this):
Marsha Langston who produced the show in Snowed in For Christmas has come up with a new dating reality concept in which people get to nominate high school sweethearts they'd like to get back together. Nikki and Kai used to date in high school but they broke up when he left town to study. Now they're thrown in this little dating experiment together for five days, to rekindle some old memories and to ask themselves why it ended back then. Neither one wants to admit it was their own fault so although they're still in love somebody must eat their pride in order to get reconciled.
It was an interesting short read although it might have been better with a little more conflict and tension.
I thought the whole game show aspect to this book was genius! It’s definitely not something that’s done often I’d say. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance🥰. It was pretty obvious they both still loved each other, and that despite it being years the chemistry was still there. The moments where they’d fall right back into little things they use to do in their relationship back in the day was so cute☺️. I really enjoyed reading their story, and getting to experience their happily ever after❤️.
This author is solid. She knows how to create a story. My disappointment comes with the lack of depth. Due to the small word count, the writing wasn’t able to dive into the characters, create any true emotional buildup or relationship between the characters. The premise for the book was wonderful…. But the development of the story was incredibly lacking. I wanted so much more!
This was a cute story, but I didn't bond with the main character. She seemed like a selfish brat to me, and it was too big a hurdle to get over. She ended up growing in the end, hence the 4 star rating instead of 3.
The chemistry between the two was great, and you could feel their desire to get past their issues, but he was definitely the more mature of the two. She still acted like she was back in high school.
I normally consume all kinds of terribly filthy romance and can't quite remember how I came across this book, (was it a newsletter? was it in my app?) but it was perfect for me to read for a little bit of an escape without taking up too much time. It was funny, quirky, positive and had a happily ever after. A little of it was kind of cliche, but I do appreciate the fun twist that the reality show brought to it.
Meh. This would be better served being promoted as 'Christian Romance' or 'YA' because then I would have avoided it. The author is a talented writer and the editing is well done, but I couldn't even begin to connect with the sugary characters.
A new television program puts two Ex's together to see if they have a serekindlecond chance to rekindle their romance. Kai and Nikki to see if they can work out their differences. Very funny!
Cute short book but I feel like it was too short to really develop the story. And I felt like Nikki’s character was super wish washy. But if you want a fun and light read, this is your book. Content: clean
