Alex Duggins Mystery #1-4

A Cotswolds Murder Mystery Box Set Books 1–4

IN THIS FOUR-BOOK BOX

FOLLY
Following the breakdown of her marriage, Alex Duggins has returned to the village of Folly-on-Weir in the Cotswolds for a fresh start. But on a wintery walk in the hills above Folly, Alex stumbles across a frosted corpse buried in the snow and finds herself top of the suspect list. Can she clear her name and find the real murderer? Or will Alex be the next snow-covered body to be found in the beautiful hills above the town?

OUT COMES THE EVIL
An almost fresh body is discovered in the disused well of a ruined fourteenth century manor house. The victim was a widow who had lived quietly in Folly-on-Weir for the past ten years. Who on earth could want her dead, and by such brutal means? Once again, amateur detective Alex Duggins and her veterinarian friend Tony Harrison are thrown into a major murder investigation.

MELODY OF MURDER
Village sleuth Alex Duggins hears singing coming from the church and finds herself drawn to a girl’s beautiful voice. Suddenly the singing stops and Alex hears a loud crash. Alex races in and finds the girl sprawled on the floor. She is already dead. Who wanted the girl dead and why? A sly, clever perverted killer is on the loose in the village. Can Alex help stop any more deaths?

LIES THAT BIND
A woman’s body is found in the woods. No one knows who she is or why she was left in such a dreadful state. Alex Duggins is determined not to get involved — for once. But the person who found the gruesomely mutilated body was young Kyle Gammage, who helps out at Alex’s friend Tony's veterinary clinic. To protect Kyle and his elder brother, Alex withholds vital information from the police. It's a misjudgement that will have far-reaching — and possibly fatal — consequences.

Excellent series.

Oh I do love good murder mysteries, especially when they are set in such delightful locations as the Cotswolds.
Folly-on-Weir is an idyllic village; however, they have a spate of murders, and Alex, the landlady of the pub, and the local vet Tony, always manage to become involved in solving the crimes.
This is an excellent series of who-dunnits, and I am looking forward to reading more.

Huh?

Great mystery until the end where the perpetrator had never even been mentioned in the entire book. His mother had fleetingly a few times. So disappointing.

Interesting series

Easier to find some clues when you know everyone around you, but when you are not trained for it you are just asking to have a killer's sight set on you. Alex learns this early in, but she can't help but get caught up in things. With the help of an old friend, Tony and Alex soon find themselves annoying the detectives but also helping them solve several murders.

I do get a little lost with some of the lingo but I get the gist of what is happening and find the setting interesting. Alex is a little frustrating, but I like Tony. I do get the hesitation in committing to another relationship, but think they are both good for each other. I don't like love triangles and really hope the situation with Dan doesn't play out into one.

Four murder mysteries in Folly-on-Weir

This is a collection of Cameron's first 4 books in a longer series. On Goodreads, I've reviewed individually the first three. Unlike those previous, the fourth ends with a cliffhanger. As with the previous 3, a dead body is discovered, with Alex and Tony investigating along side the police, sometimes in tandem, other times in opposition. This, and the previous, are cleverly plotted, with the villagers keenly drawn. There doesn't seem to be much technology in current day Cotswold, albeit it isn't urban. Entertaining, but I'll pass on seeking out additional installments.

A bit of light resding

Ok yes I did want to know what happened, I did get to know the villagers and I liked them, I can't say I wasn't sorry to get to the end though so I didn't have to keep wondering why the main character completely disregarded everybody and just kept on lying and making the plot confusing in places and brought out an Audible sigh of irritation at times. Well done though for creating a nice comfortable believable setting though. If go for a drink in the pub in the village and sit by the fire.

I am not sure why I gave this 4 stars !
While the the first two crime books were interesting enough,
I progressively disliked the character Alex - a two timer but pretending to be goody !
If Tiny has any sense he should drop her - she is a master manipulator but pretends to have been injured by her first marriage! I think that guy was lucky to get away !
Besides she is indeed rather stupid in putting herself in harms way again and again in the name of independence when she is expected to be rescued by two different men all the time! Not going to continue with the series.

Not my kind of stories

First thing I was tired of reading was all the times Alex and Tony said, “We need to talk.” After they talked they would go off like they didn’t talk about anything.

Second, I’m sure there are people who have a hard time making a commitment to someone else, that got old also.

Thirdly, I’m proud of myself for finishing all 4 books because there was so many times I just wanted to delete it from my Kindle.

I surely hope someone out there enjoyed these books.

Brilliant

I hav so enjoyed this series with Alex and Tony and all the other characters so well written I feel like I know them all will be so sorry to finish and just hope more will be written by this about this village. I have to finish to see who the culprits are I can never guess the stories are so well written the descriptions and if course all the animals I love and thus makes it all so real.

These books were enjoyable but the fourth book ended so abruptly without resolving several parts of the story. I found the ending disappointing. I liked the characters but I felt there were things unresolved in regard to Tony. What happened to the boys and their father. Did Dan get his son!? I will read the next book. Maybe there will be some answers to come.

Murders Grip Folly on Wier

Main stars Alex pub landlady and Tony village vet, over the course of 4 books deal with quite a few murders, twists and turns, including notable characters. Detective Inspector O'REILLY and Sargent Lamb give a constant showing for the police Force. Highly enjoyable and recommended.

Heroine needs common sense

Really nice stories in a beautifully described setting. The last two books needed a better editor. After the first book I realized the main characters were pig headed and lacked common sense. So, from then on I knew what Alex was going to do and what would happen when she did it. Not sure if I will buy any more in the series.

Well Done

The plot twist keeps you reading, then you think you know who did it only to have it end differently. The only thing I would like changed is wrapping up the whole story line.

Very confusing.

The stories are always rather good but sometimes very confusing. There are great characters in these books but sometimes there are so many it gets rather involved. I look forward to reading more of Syella Cameron's work.

Love this series

I've grown so attached to Alex and Tony and the whole village. The mysteries are intriguing, the characters are complex beings. I feel transported to the Cotswolds with all the flavor of being in a small, old village.

I loved the first book even though it seemed to end without tying up loose ends. Same with 2 and 3. Now with 4… a drawn out story and an abrupt end with few answers. Why interject Dan’s son into the story? I loved all the characters but was left with more questions than answers

Alright

Most of four stories well good, but the last one was kind of boring. It was more like repeating what happened in the stories before. The characters were different and a different story, but the rest was just a repeat.

Very good mystery series.

The murders were somewhat gruesome but the characters were great. It is unlikely that any small town or village would ever have so many problems!!
