Patrick Murphy leads the Irish mafia in his city. He could have any woman he wants, except the one he’s fantasized about for years. The one he’s forbidden himself to take.

His ward , Lauren.

Until now, he’s managed to keep her out of his arms—and away from all the filthy things he wants to do to her—by sending her out of the country. Now that she’s finished with college and back home, his resolve is crumbling.

Lauren’s determined to have him and make every fantasy he’s had come true. Patrick knows it’s impossible to fight her and himself.

Just like he knows that once she finds out his deepest secret she’ll hate him.

How can she not? He killed her father.

2.5 rating - just okay

This book started out great but quickly went down hill. There were too many gaps in the storyline (I understand that it was a short read) that left readers with more questions than answers. I am not familiar with this author, but try to give all authors a chance. I think she had the right idea but somehow lost direction and continuity in this novel. This novel was done in the third person/narrative instead of the two main characters. I prefer perspective from the characters. You obviously need some narrative, but too much can be distraction.

Characters were okay, but nothing great.
Lauren's character started out good but quickly went to the immature girl who THREW herself at Patrick, a man 18 years her senior and the leader of the Irish Mafia. It felt as though her high school crush had never "matured" even though she was 22. She may have been a virgin, but had to have dated while in college. She was too forgiving and too childish. She did know how to think on her feet throughout some of this novel, otherwise she would have ended up with a bullet between her eyes by her kidnappers, since her husband was MIA during that fiasco.

Patrick's character was extremely confusing going from one extreme to another. Who shoots his best friend between the eyes and then agrees to take his 17 year old daughter in as his "ward" who he is physically attracted to? His character started out okay but quickly morphed into a "hypocrite"
throughout most of the novel. He was attracted to Lauren and lusted for her but never really said he loved her. He needed her, but never really acted like a man in love. It was about ownership, being her first, and protecting her; which didn't go so well. He lies to her throughout much of this book, but "punishes her when she fibs". When do adults use the word "Fib" unless you are talking to younger children? She gets abducted and where is Patrick? Had Lauren not talked her way out of being tortured and killed, she would have been fish bait. Where was the attempt to save her by dear ole Patrick, her husband?

Finally, the entire story surrounding the death of her father by his best friend was a hard sell. I am an avid reader of this genre so this tale that Patrick's character tried to weave in order to placate his wife for his role in her father's death was a hard sell. You don't kill your best friend and right hand man without investigating his role in this " abduction" before you put a bullet between his eyes. It was a very easy out for Patrick to kill Lauren's dad instead of actually taking the time to find out the real truth. He knew that Sal was a scumbag, so why would you believe him without further investigating the entire incident. All he apparently had to do, was ask his daughter, Lauren. It wasn't like her father and Alessia were hiding their relationship.

Lauren's ability to "forgive and forget" what he did to her father so FAST was also hard to believe. Just too much magical thinking and not enough substance in this novel. No HFN or HEA for this couple knowing that your husband murdered your father because it was easiest thing to do and then lied to you to cover it up. But oh....he tells Lauren at end of the book, no more lies between them; but, can you really believe him?

3.5 stars--PATRICK: HIS TO ENTICE is the second instalment in Josephine Jade’s contemporary, adult HIS FOREVER dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is twenty-two year old Lauren Welsh, and forty year old Patrick Murphy’s story line. PATRICK: HIS TO ENTICE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Patrick and Lauren) PATRICK: HIS TO ENTICE follows the building romance and relationship between twenty-two year old Lauren Welsh, and forty year old Patrick Murphy. Approximate four and half year earlier Lauren Welsh’ s father was murdered leaving our heroine an orphan , and under the guardianship of the head of the Irish Mafia Patrick Murphy. Fast forward to present day wherein Lauren, having graduated from college overseas, returns home to Patrick’s house with the intention of seducing our story line ‘hero’ but Patrick keeps secret the who, what and why of Lauren’s father’s death, and if and when revealed, would push our heroine out of his life. Believing he is not worthy of Lauren Welsh, Patrick arranges to send Lauren away, only to realize he has fallen for the woman he has betrayed in the past. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Lauren and Patrick, and the potential fall-out as Lauren is targeted in a need for revenge.

The relationship between Lauren and Patrick begins as a guardianship in the wake of Lauren’s father’s death but Lauren has plans upon her return to America, and her plan is to seduce the man with whom she had fallen in love. Patrick knows that to fall for Lauren Welsh means breaking her heart in the process. Patrick has a secret that could destroy our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word .

We are reintroduced to Sal and Gio Peretti, a family whose reputation was first revealed in book one SHANE.

PATRICK : HIS TO ENTICE is a quick read; a fast paced story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, obsession, revelations, family and love. The premise is edgy and tragic; the romance is provocative; the characters are charismatic and strong.

The second instalment in the dark mafia romance has Patrick, the leader of the Irish mafia finally succumbing to his obsession, Lauren. She’s much younger than him and his to protect after her father is gone, but now she is a young woman and it’s been four years since she came under his care where most of it she has lived across the sea so he could avoid the temptation. She’s back now and determined not to leave until she has resolved her attraction to him, she wants him and has been in love with Patrick for years and now it’s her time to find out if the attraction is mutual. She pulls out all the stops to get him to notice her….but will she still feel the same when she learns his biggest secret and betrayal.
A great read with steam, love, secrets, betrayals and twists and turns. Not as dark as the first book but no less addicting. I loved Patrick’s soft underbelly when it came to Lauren and the ending solidified his love and dedication to her. Lauren was strong willed but also level headed and I loved her strength as well as her maturity in the end. The story flowed nicely with great characters and surprises I didn’t see coming.

Kept the balance between darkness and light

Lauren, a recent university graduate, has loved Patrick, an Irish mob boss, since she went to live with him after her father’s death. As the story progresses a secret remains hidden, a chase is given, and a truth may doom the relationship just as it begins. Josephine Jade kept the balance between darkness and light in Patrick: His to Entice. Based on the first two books this sets the stage for the rest of the series as well. Both books so far, seem to have a dark alpha male lead that is paired with a perfectly light female lead and they each blend a little of the other to form a solid couple intent on making it despite the obstacles they face. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
