I have enormous respect for John Valk's research. He is one of those true scholars that maintains a quest to understand big ideas in their complexity.
I enjoyed this book. 'Worldview' has remained an under-discussed trope for nearly forty years. I remember reading provocative research from Eric Michaels in the late 1980s and early 1990s that challenged - deeply - the default settings of Eurocentrism. So this book is welcome, as it provides complexity and care to the development of this concept, trope and theory.
Not surprisingly in such a book, some generalizations do emerge. There are some mis-steps in managing the relationship between 'postmodernism' and 'relativism.' But that is the topic of another book.
As with Valk's research, the monograph is smoothly written, and evocatively structured. It is a fine contribution to scholars thinking about worldviews, and provides a strong foundation for future work.
