Mysteries can be fun to solve on one’s own, but they are especially enjoyable to investigate with friends. Hannah is back for a second adventure accompanied by her friend Mia. When their friend Lacy’s cat, Mr. Meowgi, goes missing, Hannah and Mia jump into action and are immediately on the case. Using video and good, old-fashioned detective work, the girls collect clues from around their town to learn exactly what happened to Lacy’s beloved pet. Unbeknownst to them, a kind-hearted robot named Robert lives nearby and is having a mysteriously interconnected experience of his own.

This is an excellent continuation of the Hannah Saves the World book series, following much the same pattern as the first one. Two initially disparate storylines interconnect as the story progresses, often in ways only the reader and omniscient narrator can observe. Funny and heartwarming, this cozy mystery showcases friendship and acceptance and is thoughtfully designed for a middle grade audience.

Young readers will love the silly and engaging writing style that continues from the first book. Channeling Sherlock Holmes, several of his iconic phrases appear within the dialogue and add an old-style element to the narrative. Occasional illustrations appear in the book, enhancing certain plot points while providing a visual respite for young readers. These black-and-white images help readers engage more fully with the story and the events taking place within it.

Hannah Saves the World is a well-written, next level up from series like Cam Jansen for middle grade readers. Fans of cozy mysteries with some humor, cats, robots, and a satisfying ending will fall for this quirky investigator and her friends. It is a delightful addition to library collections for middle grade readers.
