The jaw-dropping finale to the biggest TMNT story ever is here! One final showdown between mutant and Foot Clan will determine the fate of NYC. Will the Ronin be able to find some measure of peace or is he fated to meet the same end as his brothers? Don't miss one of the most epic battles in TMNT history and the conclusion to the comic book event of the year!
(A-) 82% | Very Good Notes: One big brawl (the final fall), it doesn't quite enthrall, subplot's alright, a plumbing plight, best part's the curtain call.
Nice ending to a pretty dope story. The last turtle, or last ronin, is headed straight for Oroku Hiroto for the final battle. Cuts a bloody path through all his ninjas and robots for the big showdown and what a showdown it was. Battle raged of for several pages with some dope artwork. The ending hits you right in the chest and the epilogue was pretty cool. Great series.
I was waiting for the last issue to wrap this up. And it's finally out!
I'm not a fan of the TMNT universe/stories but I found this run quite amazing and interesting. Although some details in the story left me (slightly) scratching my head, they were not much of a concern, and the reading went speedily all along. The art is awesome and the pace and fight scenes are... epic! And the main opponent is bad/boss enough to keep this story interesting up till the end.
This is a great read even for non-TMNT fans! Highly recommended!
Seriyi finalledik.
This book closes out the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story I have ever read and I have to say that overall I was impressed. It was a much darker story than I was expecting, and one that showed a surprising amount of depth. Despite not being well versed in the lore of this series (save for what I watched in the cartoons as a kid), I was fully engaged with the emotional weight behind this story. I can only imagine what it must have been like for long time fans of this franchise.
All that being said though, there were a few small issues I had with this series. The first was that the actual conflict itself was a little one dimensional. Point good guy at bad guy, repeat until bad guy goes down. It felt like an afterthought as the series was clearly more about the family moments than it was about the present-day conflict.
That leads on to the second issue though, a family moment that I felt was a little too rushed. I liked the idea of Mikey getting to know Casey better and becoming her Sensei, but I felt like the story was trying to push their relationship to places it wasn't ready for yet. They went from never having met to thinking of each other as family in what felt like just a few days, and it was hard to buy that. Granted, there wasn't much time to develop the relationship, but just a few scenes with them bonding on a personal level would have gone a long way.
Overall though, there's not much to complain about here. It's a well-written story with great artwork to back it up, and overall it's a solid 4.5 stars for the series.
What an outstanding story, The Last Ronin is! This is such a special book, from the alternate timeline ending for the TMNT from Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. I am floored.
Amazing closure. Hoping for an anime adaptation. I would rate Last ronin 1-5 as a whole package 4.5. Great art emotional story really mature closure for those who grew up loving 4 pizza loving ninjas.
Turtle power, am I right? I've never seen a turtle story like this one. It's dark, it's grown-up, it's the turtles like you haven't seen them before. I knew nothing going into this one, but man, I can't wait for the movie adaptation of this. It will leave you seeing TMNT in a whole new light.
The story has its emotional and fitting last chapter. As far as the story goes it isn’t anything surprising the way things happen, but satisfying and touching the way it plays out. The dialogue is engaging, especially Michelangelo’s internal dialogue, which is up there with any protagonist voice over as far as level of quality.
The art is gorgeous, as it is in every issue of this run. Probably about two thirds of the panels in this issue would look good framed on the wall. The action shots in particular carry the feeling of Mikey’s fight.
A run that has taken them a long time to put out…it seemed like every issue was delayed for months, but well worth the wait. If patience leads to this type of quality then it was time well spent.
I'm a huge sucker for the Ninja Turtles and I haven't read a comic of theirs in a long time. I heard news that they were looking for a publisher for a video game adaptation and after reading the Last Ronin, yeah I can see that.
I got about exactly what I expected. Art style is solid, I loved how they changed it to the original style in some of the flashbacks. A few panels really had me, I couldn't look away. Overall not the most amazing thing ever, but for a hardcore turtles idiot like me, very good.
The time between release of these issues certainly didn't do this title any favors. Probably should have gone back and re-read the previous ones but chose not too. All that aside, this lacked the emotional punch (pun intended) of the preceding issues. It was a fine, mostly satisfying yet somewhat predictable conclusion to a very good series.
And so we reach the end. A decent final volume including a pretty cool fight sequence, but I was a little disappointed with the outcome and ending; it all felt bittersweet. I would have also liked to have seen more of Casey Marie in action after learning she’s a mutant, I guess they’re saving that for a future series.

This was such a fun series to read as a 5th grade teacher and as a big fan of TMNT! I've been wanting to read this series for a while now. I was excited to see which character was The Last Ronin. This makes me want to read more TMNT books.
