Billionaire and once richest man in the world, J. Paul Getty shares his insights on what he believes are the characteristics of a successful executive. At the time of this writing he had been in business for 50 years, so I think he had some experience with knowing how to choose and be a successful executive.
He exposes some philosophies in his day that are myths to becoming a successful executive. For example, I particularly liked his lesson on how some people think that by flattering or kissing butt, they will be able to advance their career, unfortunately these people are sincerely mistaken. At the end of the day the company wants to see results and no amount of flattering will produce those results. Results will be produced by planning, execution, hard work, etc.
Many theories debunked in this book on what it takes to be a successful executive and J. Paul Getty gives some keys to be a successful executive. Also, some wise guidance about how to stay clear from some mistakes failed executives have made.
