In this contemporary retelling of "Jane Eyre" am orphaned nanny becomes entranced with her magnetic and brooding employer, a rockstar with an torturous secret from his past.
Honestly this book slayed. I love reading retellings of classic stories so this was pretty refreshing as a retelling of Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre already is a pretty haunting and romantic story but this book brings it to a more modern time. Jane Moore falls in love with Nico Rathburn, a rich rock star as she nanny’s for his daughter Maddy. What I liked is that when you sort of thought the story would wrap up and the book would end (despite being only halfway thru) there were unexpected (or expected if you have read or watched Jane Eyre before) twists and turns. Really good book and I would probably read again!
I wanted to love this, but was ultimately disappointed. The relationship between Nico and Jane felt forced. It lacked that delicious connection that is in the original. And sex at the first declaration of feelings? It cheapened an already absent chemistry and connection to the point of complete deflation for me.
I liked everything in this book except for the romance. I didn’t like Nico at all. This book did solidify for me that I really love the troupe of a live-in nanny for a rich family.
