Shanna Bell is a romance author who loves to write (and read) about sassy, strong women who can save themselves and men with a heart of gold. Wanderlust is her middle name, as she loves to travel and experience new cultures and foods. If you're into romantic suspense, happily ever afters, and some steam she´s got you covered. For updates on her series, you can join her newsletter or mail her. She loves hearing from her readers.
This is the prequel to the romance between Kristoff and Katya Their full-length actual romance book will be coming out later in 2022. This short novella basically introduces the characters and shows the reader how they met. The heroine's mother told Kristoff, who is a leader in the Russian mafia, to take care of her daughter. That daughter is Katya. There is around a 17+ age gap between the two of them, and nothing much happens between the two of them (in a romantic way) in this prequel. I feel like this book was written so the readers can know how Kristoff became Katya's ward.
I am very much looking forward to their full length book!!
TW: animal death, SA, murder
TROPES: age gap, alpha hero, damaged hero, dark romance, mafia romance, never been kissed (Katya), novella
Intriguing start to this Bratva underdog story. We get a glimpse at Kristoff and Katya back stories and how their mothers actions put them on a collision course. There is death, intrigue, attraction and intellect with some brawn mixed in. Triggers are riddled throughout this short story and include scenes of sexual assault, death, and maiming of animals.
It’s so interesting to get a read on Kristoff, at long last! His story begins with his hopes of being a surgeon. His life is forever altered when his mother is killed. Becoming Bratva, takes him years but he endures to kill the man responsible for his mom’s cruel death. Katya becomes his ward when her mother, his mom’s friend, makes him take a blood oath that he will protect Katya come what may. It’s exciting, it’s dangerous, and as good as any book in this series.

This was just a prequel, 77 pages. I love this man, And she is dumb but kinda iconic. I will spend my money on the actual series. And i need to return to self-published dark romance. It hits differently.
Katya is thrust into the Bratva world at 17. With little understanding of what that entails, she gets a quick lesson on its dangers. Shannon Bell wrote a stunning prequel to introduce her characters, and the mysteries that lurk behind scenes waiting to jump out and gut us all.
Loved this intro novella about Kristoff and Katya! Looking forward to continuing seeing where the story progresses and seeing their romance blossom. These two have been they so much so they are going to make a force to reckoned with.
Ekaterina, Katya, a cancer survivor and daughter of Inessa, a graphic designer who worked at home and had met an accountant named Ted. Who knew he could be so abusive? Ted had found Inessa again, and her and her daughter Katya ran again, but this time Inessa enlisted the help of her best friend's son, Kristoff Romanov. He made a blood vow with her mother he would protect her with his life. That vow would come into effect on the next day when Kristoff received notice that Inessa was dead. What did he know about raising, for all intents and purposes, a child?
Well, that was a birthday to remember! The physical world-building is well enough to get an idea of where the action is, but it is still fuzzy around the edges. The ethereal world-building was there, maybe a little understated, but there nothing the less. The character interaction seemed on point, even if the young woman showed the defiance of a little girl.
This romantic series starter is just the budding part of a relationship beginning, but not one built on roses, candy, and I love you forever. I give this short series starter five stars out of five stars.
If you're looking into reading Russian Bratva romance novels without knowing where to start, here's a good beginner novel to check out. The characters are interesting to read about, although as much as I trust Kristoff and Katya, I don't trust Viking whatsoever. At best, he's my grey area between Kristoff and his mentor from the past. I hate that guy. The plot was quick to develop, the vibes were something of a slow burn love story, and I look forward to reading the rest of the duet. This prequel? So good! Fairly unpredictable and well-written, through and through!
Incredible start to this series. Kristoff was hardened when he lost his mother and he fought back to find her killer. He's waging his own war when a just barely woman was dropped in his lap.
Katya, fought her own war. She battled cancer with her mom by her side. Finishing her treatments and ready to live a life with her mom by her side. Ready for them both to be able to have a life not involving a hospital or treatments, but instead she was dropped on a man who's soul was dark, doorstep. Now it was time for her to survive, to live and show her mother the woman she raised.
Was Kristoff ready to show some humanity? I can't wait to find out!
I loved every second of it. The FMC is so relatable for a young woman with an illness, like me. I’m sorry about what happened to her. If only… I would have liked for the book to be a little more descriptive. It was a bit difficult to imagine the when, how and where. Other than that, it’s definitely on my top three reads of the year so far. Super recommendable!
3.5 stars. I liked what I read so far but trying to find where I can read the next book has been a major pain in the ass because it will say it's in English but actually be in dutch. As for the story I think it's fun and want to read more.

In dit boek leer je meer over de geschiedenis van Kristoff en Katya. Er gebeurd niet echt iets spicy op 1 zoen na. Wel is het handig om dit boek te lezen voordat je Kingpin gaat lezen.

The stage is set for Krisoff and Katya.i am waiting to read how they come together. It would be interesting to read Kristoff's walls crumbling bit by bit.
As someone that reads prequels to series from a new author to get a feel of both the story and the authors style of writing, this was an amazing book! It drew me in, gave me just enough information without revealing all the details making me want to continue. I absolutely loved this and am loving the duet so far aswell! Definitely an underrated and under read series, will definitely be referring this as a read to all my fellow reader friends! :)
