Jacob and Alice have no choice but to turn their focus to Belldorn. The coastal city is paramount in the war with Fel. Without Belldorn, and the aid of Canopy’s dragonriders, all will be lost.
Soon, the battle takes to the skies once more. Knowing they need all the support they can find, Mary, captain of the Skysworn, engages the same Pirate guild she turned her back on years before.
The drums of war have sounded. Rumors of a resistance in Ballern draw Jacob, Alice, and Furi across the Crystal Sea. Yet as their hunt for allies continues, one truth refuses to be ignored. All paths lead to Belldorn ... and some won’t make it out alive.
Eric R. Asher is the author of over 30 titles, including the Vesik urban fantasy series and the YA steampunk series, Steamborn. Look for his upcoming cozy fantasy, The Theme Park at the End of the World, in 2024. He is currently living in St. Louis, Missouri, where the local folklore often finds its way into his Mason Dixon: Monster Hunter rural fantasy series.
Skysworn by Eric R Asher Steamborn series #6 (of 9). Steampunk fantasy. YA/NA with caution. War, death, and betrayal and power. Best read in series order. This book continues where the story left off in the prior book. Jacob and Alice are in Belldorn where the battles take to the skies again. The city is paramount in the war and they have no choice but to join in particular since Lady Katherine needs them. Even Mary, the Captain of the Skysworn gets involved. It’s war. And with war there are casualties.
Jacob seems to be able to use his Tinker skills for just about anything. Great world building and adventure even though I’m not a fan of war and loss. Jacob and Alice and their friends make a great team. I can’t wait to read on.
Another fabulous story with Jacob, Alice and the entire cast of amazing characters. It was non stop action throughout, most which took place in the sky. This story continues with treachery, death, and bravery. I highly recommend audible
A good story and written well, but I still can’t get over the concept of ‘time’ and ‘distance’ in this universe. In this book specifically, I feel you could add ‘plot’ to this list.
So often a chapter will end and then suddenly characters who were miles away are now back in town from their adventures. I realize chapter breaks help permit time lapses without jarring the audience, but often it feels like time stood still while a select group of characters complete a side quest. Moreover, the characters are at war for almost half the book, and though it is true that life goes on - even in sieged cities - war doesn’t stop for your side quest. Yet, the Skysworn (ship) is able to get behind enemy lines, to remote points of interest, and back to their main port repeatedly for resupply without missing the dogfight?
I do like where the deeper story is going though, and am interested in seeing that play out, but there appear to be several questionable plot holes. None overpower the protagonists because alternative problems arise, but on the whole, I frequently found myself thinking, “but they’re newly at war. Surly that would be guarded.” Or “why would a character do ‘X’ in a situation like that?”
Skysworn is the sixth book in the Steamborn series. This book can be read as a standalong, but I highly recommend that you read the previous books in the series to fully understand what is happening in the storyline.
The author has done a fantastic job of world building in this series. And this latest addition to the series adds to this. The action is non-stop and caused me to be on the edge of my seat more often than I could count. I highly recommend this book, and series, to both new and old readers. Eric Asher is a wonderful author and I love reading his books!
Brilliant! It was so hard to put this book down. I stayed up past my normal bedtime. I knew better than picking up any of Eric's books for a quick read of a chapter before sleep. Alice and Jacob's adventures in Skysworn are as fast paced as ever! Furi completes the trio. The war rages on and creates havoc and heartache and chaos for everyone. New and old storylines emerge from this book making/wanting, No, creating a need like an addiction to keep me/you reading line after line!
I'm voluntarily writing this review. I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy.
Prepare yourself for a non-stop, edge of your seat, roller coaster ride when you join Jacob, Alice, Furi and the rest of the Steamborn on their latest adventure. Modair’s evil is spreading and threatening all the cities and people. Tough decisions must be made and our brave crew will pay the price to protect the people of Belldorn.
I really thought this will be the last book. As much as I enjoy them. This was pretty short. I dunno if they will have more than 1 book left but they need to write more than a few pages. No worth the credit even thou I am so inventes on it. Prolly just keep reading them on my Amazon prime for free.
I still love the characters, the steam ships and the bugs, but the story all seems to be running into itself now and I’m finding it difficult to separate one book from another. I did enjoy the conclusion and am engaged enough to continue to the final trilogy of the series. I’ve done six books so I’m two thirds of the way through!
Another excellent book from Eric Asher. The characters are well developed with so much depth that they come to life. There is also action intrigue and I could not put them book down.
A fantastic and compelling story of people trying to help. Danger exists everywhere and you wonder how this will end. No stopping until you find out what happens.
The core part of this book and the entire series is the inner strength of all the characters, their depth and their way of thinking. They act well together and will do whatever needs to be done, no matter how it makes them feel afterwards. Mordair, former king of Fel is now in Ballern with the aim of taking it over as he did Fel. He is also bringing the war to Belldorn so any collateral damage also hurts his enemies. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one
These characters have been through so much...and this book isn't any less so for them than the others have been. They fight for truth and the ending of persecution and oppression of peoples. They do what must be done but are not untouched by what war brings. I love their compassion, determination, and loyalty. They do what needs doing no matter how hard, "for the greater good", might be to come by.
Very visual, so full of hope and sorrow.
The ending makes me look so forward to what comes next for these allies/friends.
