This was a readable history of World War II, often featuring an Australian point of view. It necessarily had some of the shortcomings attendant on a one volume history of such a huge topic, but was good nevertheless.
A British soldier wrote anonymously a poem called 'A Soldier: His Prayer'
I knew what we were fighting for - peace for the kids, our brothers freed, A kinder world, a cleaner breed ... Help me, O God, When death is near, To mock the haggard face of fear - That when I fall - if fall I must - My soul may triumph in the dust.
Nanto and Erie may idolise Monty [I assume] but I personally prefer the legendary Kiwis, Freyburg, and Rommel the Desert Fox who led the 7th Panzer division hehe. There's something about Germany that always attracts me. Deutschland Uber Alles ... World Cup 2010 belongs to Germany. Bastian Schweinsteiger rocks! hehe
