Time is running out for Faye to break the curse and unbind the dragons’ powers.
But after months of searching, she’s no closer to uncovering how. Just as hope begins to fade, messengers arrive stating that the answers she seeks can be found in the Kingdom of Ice.
With Alec and their team by her side, they embark on one final journey where they have to decide who to trust and what risks to take as they tumble through a frozen world full of new races and unexpected magic.
Romance and tragedy intertwine as everything Faye has fought for builds to an epic conclusion of the gripping Faye and the Ether series.
Faye, Daron, Alec, and Telanes are back for the epic conclusion to the Faye and the Ether series. Desperate to break the curse that binds the dragons’ powers, Faye learns that the answer may lie in the Kingdom of Ice. But when Faye and her entourage journey there, things are not entirely what they seem. With danger awaiting them at every turn and time running out, Faye and her party must figure out who to trust and how far they are willing to go to break the curse.
Wow! I can’t believe this series is over! Faye has come such a long way since the first book when she initially learned about her abilities and a whole new supernatural world. Now the leader of the dragons, Faye is so much more confident and sure of herself. Her relationships, much like Faye, have grown and strengthened and have become more of a tight-knit family. Other relationships in the story are developed too, and there are some really fun and witty conversations between friends throughout. I love all of the banter and fun antics, as they help ease the tension of some particularly suspenseful scenes. I love the friendships in the story as much as I love the swoon-worthy romances.
The romances, of course, are always my favorite parts of a novel, and the love stories in this series are fantastic! I adore how Telanes and Faye’s relationship, as well as Daron and Alec’s, have grown and developed. The love and connection, devotion, and support that each couple demonstrates is just the beginning of these layered and loving partners, and I was totally there for it! They have some super swoon-worthy and romantic moments, and I kind of feel like Telanes should be my new book boyfriend. He’s so intense and in love, and he isn’t afraid to show it. And Daron and Alec are total relationship goals! They have the best friends-to-lovers romance. Both are such amazing couples, and I couldn’t get enough of them. Alec explains their relationships so well when he compares new love to a sapling and their love as an older tree, steady and beautiful and only growing better with age. This is exactly how I see both Alec and Daron’s relationship and Telanes and Faye’s. Unbreakable, unwavering, deep, and passionate.
The story also has a ton of action, danger, and excitement as Faye travels to the mysterious Kingdom of Ice. The journey is perilous and fraught with obstacles, and the kingdom is more dangerous than they ever imagined. Secrets, lies, betrayal, and more make for a gripping read with several unexpected and tragic twists. And, oh my word, prepare yourselves! New kingdoms, new terrain, as well as new and old threats, are just some of the problems Faye, Daron., Telanes, and Alec face, and none of them are safe.
Faye and the Kingdom of Ice is a great conclusion to the Faye and the Ether series, and I’m so thankful to Nicole Bailey for providing me a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. I’m sad that the series has come to an end, but am so glad I got to go on this journey with Faye, Daron, Alec, and Telanes. This is such a unique series and one that I highly recommend to readers of YA or NA fantasy and romance.
Oh.My.Heart! This book was such a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way. Nicole really amped up all the feels in this one for an epic conclusion to a beautiful series. It's hard to say anything without spoiling so I won't talk about the plot or what happens, but this was the perfect, satisfying ending for Faye, Telanes, Daron, Alec, and all the others we've met along the way. This series has stamped itself on my heart and will stick with me for a long time
Thank you to the author for a copy of an ARC in return for an honest review.
I finished this book a couple days ago and needed some emotional time to process before I could review it.
This book is what all series finale books should be based around. It is emotional, gripping, exciting, and at times downright spooky (well done Nicole, such a fun new concept for the series). It ties up all lose ends you could imagine for our favourite characters we’ve been following for over a year in the most compassionate way. And as much as I loved this book, heck this entire series, I will say the epilogue was the best chapter written. It pulled at my every heart string and still days later is playing it’s beautiful melody.
I won’t say anything more because I don’t want to give anything away, other than just wow, it was so good. I already miss Faye and all her companions but they got an ending they each so greatly deserved.
The most perfect finale for an unbelievable awesome series!
I've been eagerly awaiting this last book in the Faye series. I've followed the characters journeys through four heartbreaking yet heartwarming books and as much as I wanted to know the end of the story, I wasn't ready to let go.
Even now, after finishing the book, I'm not ready to let these beloved characters go. But that didn't keep me from reading this book within two days.
"Kingdom of Ice" has it all: friendship, love, found family. Mix in some banter (yes, Alex, you!), a creepy mansion and some shocking gothic elements, shake and open yourself an energizing, captivating read, which you don't want to put down!
Thank you, Nicole Bailey, for taking us on this journey and introducing us to Faye's World! Or should I say, thank you Faye?! 😉
In the next and final instalment of 'faye and the ether' Nicole Bailey surpasses herself once again. This book really shows how they grew as a writer and know how to pull their readers into the story. I finished this book in one go and could not put it down.
First of all, nicole's talent has always been her characters, their dynamic and relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because of the witty banter and jokes shared between the characters.
Second, the story picks up very quickly and makes you want to keep reading to finish it.
I've been with this story and writer from the first book which was released about a year ago, and I'm a little sad to let this beautiful world go. I can't wait to see what the writer will do next. I do know they'll just keep on growing❤
4 ⭐ CW: (provided by the author) homophobia/lesbophobia, blood, death, mild gore, mild horror
Faye and the Kingdom of Ice by Nicole Bailey is the fifth and final book in the Faye and the Ether series. This was a pretty good wrap up for the series. I will say that although it was very predictable, it was more enjoyable than the previous book.
We pick up with Faye as she continues to deal with not having very good control over the dragon's powers and trying to help Ete with her curse. All Faye wants is to figure out how to unbind the dragons' powers, and conveniently, a solution comes in the form of owls. Representatives from the owl clan of the Kingdom of Ice have come to deliver a message from their leader who claims she can unbind the powers in order to right the wrong she was compelled into doing. Desperate, Faye goes, and she and her group must decide who to trust.
It was pretty obvious to me from the beginning what was going on with the owls. I did like the creepy/haunted house vibe we got from the Witte Wief's house. We get a lot of good character moments along with tragedy. I did feel like the tragedy was undercut by the deus ex machina at the end, which I was surprised about, because Nicole is usually pretty good at breaking my heart and making me cry lol. In the end, this was a story about revenge and that love conquers all. It was nice to get some more world building to expand the Ether.
This was a great winter read that included snowy scenes and a quintessential creepiness winter can bring. Now that I have finally read every book by this author, I'm not sure what to do with myself! Let's hope she releases another book soon or I may have to start rereading things.
Epic is a great word for the Kingdom of Ice. I went through a lot of emotions in what felt like a short period of time. I could NOT put the book down and decided the loss of sleep would be worth it. I had to know what was going down in the Ether, had to know what happened next. I felt very invested in what was going on, a little (lot!) creeped out at times and had to finish the tale to resolve the pent up emotions and fears that were building. It was a pretty intense, but wonderful, read. Have some tissues ready for a few of the parts. Like the other books, you are taken to a new realm of the Ether, new characters along with the ones you know and love. Some new dimensions to a few of the smaller characters and even more fire to Faye. She is a spicy selkie!! Such an amazing read and I’m so sad to leave the Ether! I loved this whole series but think this book was my favorite.
A stunning and wintery conclusion to the Faye and the Ether series!
Faye’s world holds such a lovely little place in my heart and I just can’t believe that I’ve read this long awaited conclusion.
This book kicks off where the last one left off. Faye is still searching for the answers to the questions that have been plaguing her for months. When hope starts to fade, a mysterious messenger appears. Can this mysterious messenger give her all the solutions to her problems?
In ‘Faye and the Kingdom of Ice’, we are treated to new heights, a new enemy, a suspenseful quest, and such dazzling romance. I almost couldn’t handle it!
I was up all night binge reading this!
Characters: 5/5
I can’t help but compare Faye from book one and how she is now in book five. I’m so incredibly proud of how far she’s come and what she has achieved for herself. Not only has she become a very diplomatic leader, but she’s fierce, powerful, and inspirational, yet humbled by her own origins and her downfalls. I adore how her relationship with Telanes has progressed, especially in the little epilogue snippet!
Then there’s our dashing Alec…
Once again, Alec was our other MC, and as much as I do miss Daron in the forefront, I strongly believe that Alec absolutely brought forth the success of this story. I’ve always mentioned that Nicole Bailey has this incredible ability to make a high fantasy story relatable to the reader’s real world, and she absolutely delivered that in this book. Alec struggles with his future career path and making decisions that will not only reflect on himself but also on the life and happiness of his partner. I am currently facing similar choices and it’s comforting having a character that you can relate to and empathise with.
Plot: 4.5/ 5
Sometimes it can be really tricky to maintain an interesting and gripping plot when following with such a long series. There’s only so many times a character can go on a huge quest before it gets repetitive, but I really believe Nicole built up everything throughout the series to leave us with a suspenseful and page-turning storyline in this book. Although plot heavy, we see such huge character development in this book.
Writing and Setting:
Previously, I’ve been picky with the pacing and the flow of Nicole’s writing. Her and I have spoken about this, but I really loved how the book panned out from start to finish. As always, the writing is stunning and incredibly imaginative. Its so easy to immerse myself into these stories and I will miss this world now that I’m finished.
Thank you so much Nicole and her team for providing me with an advanced copy of Faye and the Kingdom of Ice.
Its been a huge privileged to be apart of the advance readers group and to have contact with an author who you can be honest with about your views, and look towards for inspiration.
Congratulations on finishing the ‘Faye and the Ether’ series! I look forward to reading more from Nicole in future :)
This book is an exceptional ending to a truly wonderful young adult fantasy/adventure series. A rollercoaster of emotions in the absolute best way.
𝒃𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒅: Nicole Bailey amps up 𝒂𝒍𝒍 the feels.
Amidst fear, love, uncertainty, friendship, doubt, loyalty, hope, suspicion, politics, travel, danger, and more, the reader will experience a perfectly satisfying ‘𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙴𝚗𝚍' for Faye, Telanes, Daron, Alec, and the others we've met along the way. Personally, I laughed, cried, sighed, got angry, got 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 angry, and of course, fell in love all over again with this beautiful world & it’s colorful characters that Nicole Bailey has created. This series has certainly tattooed itself on my heart and will shortly become a permanent physical addition to my home library. 🖤
3.5 stars. I read these back to back so one review for all. Good world building around the girl who thought she was human but is instead a super powerful magic user who can change the world. What I liked was the Faye didn't instantly become a super hero. In fact, she failed several times and suffered from PTSD which seems like it would be a real problem in these stories. Overall message is give peace a chance albeit with a high head count.
A surprisingly spooky conclusion to Faye’s story! Really enjoyed the haunted house in a snowstorm vibe of this book. This has been such a fun series and I think Nicole Bailey has so much potential as an author, I can’t wait to see what she does next!
