Burrowing Hearts #1

Snuggle Season

Rate this book
Tonight I meet my mate. I don’t know anything about him, including his name. According to fox shifter tradition, my parents chose him for me.

For the next month we’ll be living together in a remote cabin. That’s how fox shifters form a bond. We burrow with our intended for a full month of winter.

My mothers say my new mate is kind, and he won’t mind that I don’t look like other omegas. But I’m nervous. What if he’s disappointed?

Or even worse, what if he’s someone I could never bring myself to love?

Snuggle Season is a low angst MM romance with MPreg, knotting, and lots of cuddling. It’s set in the same world as Amy Bellows’ other shifter books, but it stands alone.

Bonding on a schedule.

Man! This was the sweetest shit! I loved everything about it.

Fox-shifters bond slowly. For their bond to take there are certain rules for them to obey when they come together to a secluded place for a month of burrowing to hopefully find their mate for life.

When Adam (the alpha) and Wes (the omega) —chosen for each other by their parents —they realize pretty quickly that their parents have chosen their perfect match. Their attraction for each other is insane as well as their chemistry. Love and care blooms quickly between them and sticking to the schedule is hard but they manage. They have to bc if they take it too fast they risk their bond not to take hold.

Day 1: Touch hands
Day 2: Chaste goodnight kiss
Day 3: Kiss
Day 4: Sexual release through intimate touching
Day 5: Oral sex
Day 6: Penetrative sex
Day 7: Knotting

This was so endlessly sweet and hot af, even before they were allowed to have sex. There was even nesting. ♡

I rub my nose against his cheek and revel in the rough texture of his stubble against my skin. “I love burrowing with you, baby.”

And to get a little thrill into all this fluffy goodness there is a little plot-twist that puts their bond-forming in jeopardy.

And of course there is shifting and the sweetest image of [I won’t say it bc of spoilers and all] that made my heart fly through the roof. So I absolutely recommend.

This is high on the insta scale. The lust is so thick you cannot breath. And that was ok, because I expected it.

“The couch. Let me get used to all of this before I have to lay in bed next to you and resist touching you.”

He brings my hand up to his lips, but he doesn’t kiss it. He exhales hot air on my knuckles. Somehow, it’s more erotic than a kiss could ever be. 😲

I loved the characters and I thought this will be wonderful.

Every time I open up to Adam, he accepts me. No, it isn’t just acceptance. He wants me.

Wes has so many different smiles. Small, timid smiles. Wide grins. Toothy smiles where he scrunches his nose. I feel like a boy with a bunch of Pokemon cards. I want to collect them all. 😍

Sadly after the initially act of sex and knoting everything got boring for me. There is a time jump and all you get is mpreg, birth and a few tellings concerning the way the two foxes have settled down. I wanted more snuggling. 😥

This is another cute, insta love from this author and I’m loving it. Wow, me an insta, when did that happen? Prolly because the push and pull during the burrow season, the tension and pining still hot in the air 🤭 Full of cold showers LOL, cuddles and omega who likes to top hehehe. This was more simple than the others, overall, cute and mature. I just had a hard time with their POVs, both sounds the same, now that I’ve finished, I noticed it’s easy to remember Adam the alpha, Wes the omega, but I forgot the entire time. Not that it affected anything :’)

I always love the extra elements this author always include in the books. In this one, gender norms and topic on how normally fathers rarely takes care of their children. And then Adam and Wes discuss about it and how they want to maintain the relationship in the future. I love this little extra input I got from each book. It’s not much, but some things mentioned made me feel happy and exposed :))

I think I’m getting to much dose of insta and low angst, gonna get bored, I’m calling it quit for now :3

Nothing to see here. Literally nothing happens. If you want a story where they meet, fall in love instantly and live happily ever after without a major issue, this is the one.

Even the two kinda sorta issues thrown in are resolved without any fanfare almost immediately.

Nothing wrong with it. I'm just looking for excitement and this wasn't it for me at this moment.

Sweet and Romantic

Imagine being all snuggle up in a nice comfy sofa, fireplace roaring near by , drinking a mug of hot Irish Coffee and having the entire afternoon just for you . Isn't that nice?

Yes, that feeling of well-being, comfort and happiness is what reading this book gave me.

Recommend it to anyone who is looking for a sweet , romantic and steamy shifter story.

Short, sweet, and hot.
Just what a needed at the end of a busy work week.

I don't usually read shifter books. The insta love and mpreg is... a lot.
But, I enjoyed this, just for what it was. Mindless fluff.

3.5 cute, hot stars.

This was incredibly cute and surprisingly really smutty.

I enjoy the world that Amy Bellows built. Even though the characters are shifters, they are more human than most shifter stories. I like that these shifters get regular human sickness that can not be healed with shifting, it's a little more realistic.

Adam and Wes were cute in their insecurities and seeing them connect and bond was adorable.

A smutty comfort read.

The way their physical bonding was scheduled slowly to make sure it stuck in the end was unique. It made for great build-up. Dancing and singing in the kitchen. Holding hands. Light touches. Small kisses. COLD SHOWERS. Ugh. I was so ready for the good stuff!!
I didn't understand why them connecting fast or Wes going into his heat early was a bad thing...
I still enjoyed it. Off to the next one.

Ps. Why mention all those delcious toys without using any 😭

Bellows is the master of writing shifter worlds with new traditions that are just so interesting! This one was absolutely adorable, very low angst, fluffy as all get-out, and still had a great message that tradition can be great, but you always should be doing what's right for you. I loved that while we got humor in Amy's Pebble Gifters series through the nesting scenes, we still got it here, but in the Alpha's reactions to the birth. As always, just another book by Amy that put a smile on my face.

'You're mine.'

Who doesn't love this quote when in an omegaverse?

To kick off Rainbow Month, I picked up this short read. And it was the best fit for me who just came out of a reading slump. The chapters were short and easy to read, too. Weston and Adam were fox shifters, going into their burrowing season. For those who have no idea what that means. It's like a mating period for foxes where they spend a certain amount of time together without distractions from the outside world. In the end, it should help them bond.

Anyways, knowing nothing about the other, these men dove into the burrowing, hoping their partner would accept them. I almost had to visit the dentist after this one. Adam was one of the most caring and sweetest alpha foxes in the world of shifters. He was attentive and amazing. Even in sexual situations, I couldn't help loving the guy. He was that great. Weston was one lucky omega. I ended up loving their relationship, despite not being a huge fan of cute and cuddly. The cuteness was not too overbearing but just the right amount to get me invested. The tension between the two evolved with each page. It morphed into satisfaction. I had no choice but to be glad I started off the month with this read.

Kudos to Amy Bellows for creating this one. If you are looking for a sweet short read, this one is the way to go.

Cute, fluffy, feel-good read. I liked reading about fox shifters, and Weston and Adam were very sweet together. No rating because the book was too short.

I feel like she puts some kind of crack in her books because I usually hate insta love but in these I just lap it right up. I usually avoid Mpreg, in these i’m like give me alllll the baby animal shifters.

Don’t mind me while I spend all December reading Amy Bellows backlist lol.

The path to love

I wasn't certain about this story because there were some pretty set circumstances that were really irking me but I was impressed how it all turned out in the end!

All shifters are different and for fox shifters finding a mate means sharing a den for a month and seeing if you bond. Not only do you need to do this alone, but it has to be with someone you don't know so your parents pick them out. Aaaand to bond they have to follow steps and not go too fast together otherwise their animals won't form a bond. It is a complicated set of circumstances and sometimes it takes a few tries before you find your match- because if you don't bond the first time you never will.

Obviously this is a pretty stressful set of circumstances for what is hopefully a happy ending. It was hard to get behind this because there is a constant feeling of "doing it wrong". If they bond too fast it's wrong, too slow it's wrong, don't spend enough time or too much time together, wrong, wrong, wrong! Really, every relationship is different so having these set rules, even for a fantasy relationship, just didn't sit right. But it turns out that is what this story really is about. The pair in this book struggle with those rules too, wanting to do it right but finding difficulty in following the set path at times, and then questioning what it means for them. It took some turns and lots of deep thoughts and emotions which I really loved creating a very complete and beautiful story. A truly excellent read!

The only thing that would have made this book any better is 50-100 more pages. That aside, I loved every moment of it.

This is instalove done right. 👏 The only reason I decided to try this fox shifter book is because I absolutely love Amy Bellows’ Nerds Who Knot series, and I love books with an insane amount of snuggling. I’m so glad I picked it up. There were so many sweet and cuddly moments in this book. Pretty much the entire book actually. Plus, there was a surprising amount of depth to this story from the start. So now I’m off to read book two of the series.

March 2024 - 3.5 stars

Leaving my original review below because: LOL. "Overall, mpreg is just not really for me," she said.

This was the first omegaverse book I ever read, shortly followed by A Pebble For Lewis by the same author (I remember being very surprised by the horny eggpreg birth). I've since gone on to read 50 other o/verse stories, so it's safe to say that while this still isn't my core subgenre, omegaverse and mpreg is definitely something I'm now comfortable with.

On revisiting this though, I feel much as I did originally. Where's the rest of the snuggling? I'm annoyed that we don't see them burrow at all after they bond. The build-up to that scene is absolutely delicious and this had a lot of potential but the ending bored me. Thinking back on all the Amy Bellows books I've read now, I'm actually wondering if I've ever been fully satisfied with one of her book's conclusions. But the rest of the writing is just so nice that I keep going back!

I don't have super fond memories of book 2, but am planning to re-read book 3.

Feb 2023 - 3.5 stars

Pure fluff and cuddles, but with sex.

This isn't my usual kind of thing, I don't really go for omegaverse, especially not mpreg. But I saw this recommended as a book full of sweetness and cuddles, and I am a sucker for that.

It totally delivered on that front, it was soft and tender, and full of domestic moments.

It was also very steamy. I quite liked the rules that enforced the pace, it was fun to see them struggle against them.

The plot was quite simple, but it was a short story so I can forgive that. It's omegaverse so the insta-love also didn't really bother me. It was sweet that both characters had scar-tissue from burns and this comforted them both.

I think this is actually the first mpreg story I've read, and it was less confronting than I thought it would be. The chestfeeding, however, I was not expecting! It was only like a line or two though. Overall, mpreg is just not really for me, though I think I won't completely write off stories containing it in the future if the rest of the plot looks intriguing.

Beautiful

This was such a beautiful book. I knew it was going to be fairly fluffy going in, but my heart could barely take it. Adam and Wes were just magnificent together. I adore the whole premise of burrowing season. It’s such a unique take on shifters.

One of my favorite parts of this book was Adam and Wes following tradition but still paving their own way. I found that to be such a good commentary on life. Following tradition isn’t bad, but knowing when it isn’t working for you and being flexible enough to change it is brilliant.

This book had it all: steam, adorable interactions, falling in love and a wonderful HEA. I adored Snuggle Season so much.

It was a very cutesy book. I enjoyed the characters. I enjoy the slow burn. I liked the ending of course. But I’m not gonna lie when they said they were gonna cuddle and snuggle for a whole month. I thought they were really gonna cuddle and snuggle for a whole month. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy that they did more than just cuddle and snugging and I do like how they start to get to know each other before they proceed to other things. I like how they respected each other from beginning to end

This was a cute little fox shifter omegaverse. It's my first book by Amy Bellows. I'd probably read more of her stuff if I'm looking for fluffy vibes. This was perfectly good for what it was - just a quick little mate bonding with mpreg. The MCs were cute and really well matched and I thought it was interesting that they were both survivors of the same kind of accident and that they both chose careers to help others with the same potential struggles. The burrowing concept was kind of odd but I do love forced proximity so I was not complaining.

I love omegaverse mostly for the unique take on biological imperatives. In other words, I'm here for the sex - slick, knotting, nesting, rut and heat, marking, scenting, hand feeding etc. This book felt so focused on sex and yet it somehow didn't hit right. Idk, the heat was over and done very quickly and there wasn't a lot of focus on these elements that I like that make the sex different from humans. I wanted more nesting damnit! Ah well, it was quick and easy.

Nicknames: baby and a whole bunch of (intentionally) silly ones

She gestures toward the barn. “Now get out of here and make me some grandbabies.” I can’t help but laugh. “No pressure or anything.” “Sweetie, I’m not joking. Get out of the car.

“It doesn’t matter what the odds are, Wes. We’ll beat them.” He seems so sure. “How do you know?” He shrugs. “I’m stubborn as fuck, and I want you as my mate. Fate will just have to fall in line.”

“Fuck, baby. You smell like mine,”

I wanna be a fox shifter! This was so cute and romantic! Amy Bellows explores the mating behaviors of fox shifters this time! They don't bite or run around in tuxedos. Their parents do a kind of arranged mating thing and rent out a house or room for the couple to 'burrow' in for a month. The pair follow a set of rules to increase the odds of a bonding, but it's not a sure thing. Adam and Wes are initially reserved about the mating, worried if their partner will be a truly good match. But alas their parents chose wisely and now both desperately want to bond even if that means only holding hands and NOT having sex!!! The UTS was both hot and adorable!! I want my fox shifter parents to send me burrowing with a hottie too! XD

This was my first time reading about Fox shifters. It was a little different to all the other omegaverse books that I have read, because Foxes need a deep connection and even then, the bond could or couldn't forming, so, they need spend a month borrowing whit anothe fox shifter who they've never seen before.

Is a cute story with lots of cuddling and sweet momen

This was cute and steamy. But when it wasn’t being those two things, it was a constant stream of “fox shifters do this when this happens.” There’s better way to build up your world than that and it got old quickly.

The premise of this was interesting and the book started off really strong but then we just kept skipping ahead so we missed out on the actual relationship being built in this romance (which, isn't that kind of the point in a romance?). Plus this suffers from the usual pitfalls of lazy shifter romance - insta-love, pregnant first heat, book ending in either birth or wedding. My second book from this author and I didn't love the other, I think she's just not for me.
